900 MB update = waste of bandwidth.

Well as I have been checking everyday to see if Beta 3 as been released I got quite excited to find an update was available yesterday.  I downloaded, launched the game and BAM version 2D :(  So I thought to myself, well maybe they have improved online peer to peer connecting but NOPE, I am almost positive it got worse.  I haven't been able to start a game with anybody and if I try to join a game and it fails then I guess I have to restart the game because you are screwed after that point.

So I ask, why in the world was this update released?  Why not just wait for beta 3?  Is it THAT delayed that you needed to release "something"?  Don't really understand

Please see this post.  They are working on the problem, if it reoccurs expect this to be priority #1.  They are even working on a staurday.  This is why they don't usually like to release on Friday.  Frankly for the first 1-2 hours everything worked great, all the games were 3v3, hell I think I even saw a 4v4 for the first time.  Connecting to people was much better/  I don't know all the specifics, but they are working on it, please be patient.

And from my understanding, they are holding off on beta 3 (balance and tournament test) as long as they can to hopefully get the net code sorted out.  Doesn't do much good to run a tournament test if you can't get games bigger than 1v1.

If you click the "History" button before updating it will tell you what beta number it is and what has changed since the last one.

As for complaints about the netcode getting worse... that'd be why it's a beta test. ;)

Beta 2D was only about a week after 2C. Obviously they're hoping to get the netcode sorted in the 2-series so don't be surprised if we get 2E sometime soon... and maybe even 2F! Updates will continue to be released when GPG/Stardock think things need testing. If you don't want to test a particular update nobody's making you. :)

End of Mythor's quote

What don't you understand?  I am pretty sure I WANT to test as to why I am upset that I am UNABLE to test because the netcode is nasty.  It is pretty lame playing vs AI.  I fully understand this is BETA and everything isn't perfect.

I'm pretty sure you don't want to test since you termed the update a "waste of bandwidth". ;)

Just because the netcode is "nasty" doesn't mean you can't test other bits. Things not working is part of testing, reporting that things don't work is important... whining about testing not going perfectly is not meant to be part of testing.

From what I have played the netcode has improved again from Beta 2C....and if you ask me Beta 2C had decent netcode :)
My first game was a flawless 3v3 which everyone managed to connect to quickly and with no problems. The problem now is NOT the netcode, its the impulse facilitator (i think thats the sever?) that got messed up due to a CPU using too much memory or some complicated networking stuff like that :P

This Beta has been a big improvement imo....They tried to fix Rook (although he got a new bug which kinda kept him the same) and balanced many items (although one could argue some are too cheap now?), and the Peer to Peer is a lot better (when the server is actually up and running). So good job Stardock/GPG, keep it up and get that facilitator fixed asap! :P
