Star Wars mod now available

Star Wars mod now available

I did this on a whim, but I've had a lot of fun with it, so I thought I'd share. I just can't get enough of Darth Vader saying "I'm altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it further" on the negotiation screen. This mod replaces all the alien pictures, movies and music. btw, most of the races have different movies, and, in some cases, different sounds depending on your relations with them.

Star Wars Mod HQ (51 megs) - http://galciv.bsd.st/madmaz/StarWars_Galciv_Main_HQ.zip Films have higher bitrate than...
Star Wars Mod LQ (26 megs) - http://galciv.bsd.st/madmaz/StarWars_Galciv_Main_LQ.zip
Star Wars Mod Extra Music (32 megs) - http://galciv.bsd.st/madmaz/StarWars_Galciv_Music.zip Replaces the six main songs and the intro theme with various songs from the 5 movies. This is not really necessary. If you have the soundtracks, setting up a playlist will give you a lot more variety.
JavaScout's Galciv Database PDA version - http://galciv.bsd.st/madmaz/GCivPDAManual.zip Totally unrelated to mod and about 3 weeks out of date. Thought I'd link it, since it's on the same site.

Hope you enjoy it. If you have feedback, I'd love to hear it. Just post it in this thread.

- Madmaz

p.s. special thanks to LazyBastard for giving me the space to put this on :)

OK, whatever.

Here's a link to the other thread http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&ID=70778#70788 , since it's not stickied. To be honest, I don't know how this got stickied in the first place.

I posted the full details in that thread, but to summarize what this new version has:

---------------
1.0 What's New?
---------------

1) 41 Ships! Various star destroyers, tie fighters, x-wings, a-wings, y-wings, millennium falcon-like ships, squadrons, etc. The ship's "nationality" color is pretty easy to see, for those gamers out there who may have some minor blindness issues. The "bad" races have Empire-style ships, while the "good" ones have Rebel-style. Also should be color-blind friendly.

2) Better Replacement for the Torians - Got rid of the silent fish people and added some lovably hairy Wookies! Includes never before seen recent footage of Chewbacca on his home world.

3) Other leader improvements - Luke has more to say, a different yoda movie, etc.

4) All sound effects have been replaced. Beeps, weapons fire, menu stuff are now all Star Warsy.

5) Lots of graphical replacements - With the destruction of Bespin, a habitually drunk Lando was thrilled when you gave him the job as your planetary governor. An unemployed but nonetheless curiously shiny 3P0 has also convinced you to hire his pansy ass as your galactic secretary. Several other similar modifications are also included.

6) Planet list replaced with one that contains every "known" Star Wars planet that a very dedicated fanboy had on his web site. Certain vanity planets still exist though

6) Easy-to-use installer/uninstaller that backs up all the files it replaces.

7) Silent MP3 with corresponding playlist, so you can effectively turn off music, but still hear the negotiation soundtrack when speaking to the AIs.

By the way, this mod should be completely metaverse friendly. Unless I inadvertently broke something, nothing in these files should affect the game play balance.

I want to thank you for all your work.

Really you must of spent many hours putting together the package.

Thanks Tech. I appreciate it. It did take a while, and I certainly didn't plan on putting all that time into it. 3/4 of it was spent figuring out how to automate stuff so even though the first iteration of ships was pretty painful, by the end, it was actually kinda fun. In any case, I at least picked up a couple useful tricks.

I think this Star Wars Mod is great. I don't think I'll ever play the game in it's original form again. I am new to GalCiv.s but this mod makes it so the game has a bit more realism and a lot more depth with the story we all know.
I do have a question though and this might pertain to either versions of the game but I only know how to put it in terms of the Star Wars version. I can see the differences in advantage for defensive verses offensive units but it seems that there is no advantage but disadvantage of all the strike groups (or frigates) over just having several X-wing/Tie fighter units stacked up in a fleet in price or stats. Also, I've acquired the battleship technology but I didn't see that it added any ships to build (?). If you could help me understand the reasoning I would appreciate it. Thanx -Nathan

Ok, I see one big difference is the range that some can go to.

I'm transferring that file to a different server.I plan to post when it's sorted out. btw, the music add-on is still there.

Here's the new link. There are also forums there you can use to give feedback, ideas and hopefully participate in its future development.

That has never happened to me. Nor has anyone reported that in the two star wars mod threads. I have heard of some general GalCiv sound problem, though I don't think it's very common. I'd try searching the forum for that.

Hopefully if someone else has noticed this as a result of installing the mod, they will post here.

I think Galciv still has intermittant sound problems.
I had sound problems as well and I am not running any mods. Does not last long and is not common so it does not annoy me much.

Can we get a forum where you dont have to register to post, cuase omfg if I have to register to any more forums ill go crazy!

I totally understand where you're coming from. I often have the same attitude. Ironically, before I moved my stuff to CDG, I had visited their forum a couple of times to check out some files that were advertised, but I never actually looked around or downloaded anything b/c I didn't want to deal with registration. In any case, it's not my site, so I really don't have any say in the matter. Desert Fox and Elucidus are the people you'd want to ask.

Yeah, what Kryp said.. there are PLENTY of ships in SW to do 25 or even around 100. Just look to the games and, if you exhaust even that, the various ship guides and books for Star Wars. You'll find plenty. ;)

I downloaded the files, put each file into their respective folders in my installed GalCiv files but I am not seeing any Starwars stuff. No music (just the standard fare) no cutscenes etc. I admit, I have only meet the Yor so far. What am I missing. So far its like a regular GalCiv game. (not that that's a bad thing...)
There's nothing to put in any folders. You may have downloaded an old version as well as put those files in the wrong places (you should have at least seen new Yor). Given the last couple of posts, I guess people can't be bothered to read the latest messages, so just go here: http://www.cdgroup.org/forums/tbs/gc/index.php?h=1&pf=89

You'll get an installer/uninstaller that will put everything in the right places. After running the installer, you should know it's different right from the very first intro screen.

Thanks Mad. I downloaded the files weeks ago and just got around to (attempting) to put them into the right folders per the directions on the included readme. I didnt know you had updated downloads that includes an installer. I will go and download the latest.
Cheers.
Oh, Bobo says thanks too.

No problem. I hope you and Zathras, er I mean Bobo, both enjoy it :) and, btw, you should definitely get the new version. It includes a lot of stuff the old one doesn't.

"..and what the hell is up with that smugglers video?!? You are a sick and twisted man you know that?"

What are you referring to? What happens in the video?

"Since AOL, in general, is evil, I'm guessing it has something to do with that."

LOL!

P.S. If you haven't already, you could use the Sun crusher as a replacement for the Terror Star.

I have photoshop, and I am going to try to convert several of the SEIV ship sets over to GalCiv, but won't be easy, since I am not PhotoShop skilled, and not very artsy, either.
End of quote

MadMaz and fleabitfox, I've used Corel and Photoshop virtually every day for the past 6-1/2 years. I'd love to work out some basic ship modifications and graphics if somebody can tell me where this mysterious "ship encoder" can be had. I've dug into the game files, and the text looks easy enough to edit, but I can't get into the ship graphics without the utility.

Now if somebody wanted to do a Star Trek mod, that would be really nifty. (Hint)
