Effect Feedback
When Lord Erebus has his Soul Drain (or whatever the life drain ability is called) active, you actually SEE a visual around Erebus to indicate it is there & in play. This logic needs to be applied to every effect in the game, especially with talk of identifying and eliminating or curtailing "cheese". I speak most particularly about Items.
If I get Sludged (Sludge Scroll - a good example), I need to know that I have been Sludged. Tiny icons in my display aren`t always sufficient - I want to *see* some type of Sludge/mud visual for every unit that is effected. Ditto for when I utilize such items against others. I need to know when 'X' effect is active and when it is not, both on myself and on others. And indicators that so testify should be in the playfield, not solely upon a sidebar or menu.
If I lose, I should have an idea of how I lost!...
If gameplay flow is preserved as some sort of secret from a player, said player will become frustrated. Frustrated players will stop playing.
I realize that a few effects may not be suitable for a playfield representation, or such would mar aesthetics, but a number could be, especially the more critical effects. (Example: graphics of mud about the feet of a target of Sludge Scrolls.)
Knowing what is going on may mitigate perspectives of "cheese" as well - make such more honest evaluations.
