Any hope for another 'real' beta update before release?

Ya know... One with balance tweaks etc....

Thanks,

nope

Frogboy already posted about this - and said all updates between now and retail launch will only focus on the netcode.

It was mentioned in another thread that there will be no more beta updates with balance tweaks.   Only multiplayer network fixes.   We'll get our real update on release day.

Beta is effectively over, but if you want to do some testing hang out in #demigod and test out the network code with Cari.  She has a test application that she has people run.

Kinda risky imo to not release any more balance updates..

Lets cross our fingers its good for release!

This may come as a shock to you but 99.9% of games are released without having a public beta. :)

Lets all have confidence in stardock.

But I must admit I dont have this confidence for GPG. Got let down with Forged Alliance. But its supposed to be because of THQ.

So stardock is not THQ so I guess its gona be good this time!

Wow, sure shocked me! Still, I know Stardock's got it all under control.

Just depends on expectations really.

Heck, look at the posts where we talk about balance changes. Even the most experience Demigod players can't agree on changes.

you're such a generous ... Mast'ah ... I'm soooo grateful to having had the privilege of participating in your public beta ...

(There's a top-secret gamma going on ... and only those of you who are FOF [Friends of Frogboy] may participate ... It's « off the record, on the QT, very hush-hush »).

What's with the attitude, Sorceress? Talk about blaming the messenger.

Public Beta? More like "Public" Beta. It's not exactly a case of "wanna beta? Come right in!" which is what an actual public beta would be.

It's public as in it is possible for anyone to be in it. Anyone can buy Demigod and get the beta, it's not restricted to people who have experience at testing games or something.

Guild wars did kind of the same thing. You had to pre-order the game  in order to play during their monthly beta weekends (or get access from a 3rd party site from a contest or some such for 1 weekend).

I'm gonna go ahead and bet that means the balance is pretty good :P

I don't think the balance in the current public beta is that great.  Some Demigods are simply purely inferior to others and others are too easy to dominate.  It's something GPG is working on. There are also items and spells that have unintended consequences (i.e. seemed like a good idea on paper at that price).

By that logic there are no non-public betas.

that is not true. There are some betas in which the company hires testers, I wouldn't call the public.

I consider a public beta one in which the ristriction is not made by the company, ie paying for a preorder is a restriction by money

If the company handpicked participants then I would not consider it a public beta.

We are going to be clearing the on-line stats for the Demigod beta in preparation for a very short on-line Tournament with some prizes prior to release as a kind of “Thanks!” to the beta group. That will start with the release of beta 3F in the next couple of days. /Frogboy

So seems we ARE getting a ballance patch and seeing GPG people dont like working on weekends, Id say we got high chanses of the patch arriving this evening.

Well, for GC2: Dreadlords, there were private gammas the month before the retail launch.

We're working this weekend. :)

No balance changes in this beta. We're purely testing out multiplayer stuff.

My sources says the patch includes some changes made by GPG as well though, and since SD does most of the networking I chose to interpret it as if we get at least some game changes ;)

Thanks for the update Brad
