Stardock: Preorder / Early release question

To Stardock,

So, I have the DemiGod game preordered for digital + CE right now, and as everyone knows, the game was released early. Under no circumstances will I cancel the preorder, because I want to support you guys.

However, what I want to know is how easy it would be, if I bought an instore copy, to gift my electronic copy key to someone else (or vice versa, I wouldn't mind reinstalling again to get the Impulse key if needed). I got to play it a bit on a friend's account, and I'm considering buying a physical copy to tide me over, then giving it to a good friend who is visiting in town.

So, how would this process work please?

Really, I would wait untill monday/tuesday when you´re getting your key for the download.

The servers aren´t fully polished yet, because the game isn´t meant to be released yet. And there aren´t many players around.

So take a free weekend, enjoy the sun, hunt some eastereggs and on monday/tuesday Demigod will be waiting for you :)

I'm pissed too.

The digital DL should have given us a little headstart, but now it's the contrary. This is the last time I preorder anything from them, too bad for them, that's some $ lost.

Joh48Smith: Gamestop selling copies isn't Stardocks fault.  The street date is the 14th April, its just Gamestop apparently decided to ignore that.

This happens with many releases. Usually it's fewer stores than one thinks that break the date. I'm sure if I go down to my local Gamestop they will not be selling it (hell, I'll be lucky if they sell it on Tue. or Wed.). Be patient. Only a few more days.

As Neil already said, it was not planned to have Gamestop breach their contract and release the games early. You shouldn't blame Stardock for that.

Mr. Banfield, as a customer, honnestly I do not care about the whos, the whats, etc. I just see that in the end, the game I pre-ordered (both to play early AND support you on this fantastic game) via Digital download is already available elsewhere. I feel screwed up and cheated. As I said, this was my 1st, and will be my only, pre-order from you.

So even if Gamestop is screwing things, you think it is normal to blame Stardock.

BTW, when did you preorder?

Kudos still on a great game, which I'm so eager to play.

lol your quite serious in blaming SD. ever take a look at how much they are giving support for something they didnt even do? they are even going to try releasing on the 13th. to me, that shows that even though someone at gamestop really screwed up, SD is working its hardest to meet them half-way.

SD is the first people ive pre-ordered from and its for these reasons that ill keep doing so.

I find this kind of post astonishing.  Clearly if a retailer breaks the rules and sells the game earlier than the release date then they are at fault and not the distributors and developers.  Why is it so important to get the game before release?

I hope that more people agree with me than you as I think overall the Demigod community is a nice one and we could do without this kind of attitude.

Neil,

Have an answer to this? I'd accept "It would work but we're so pissed at GameStop we'd wish you didn't." Just trying to figure stuff out.

Other people,

I can understand frustration, but please realize it is out of Stardock's hands right now. This is not a normal weekend, so we really ought not expect they do any major work till Monday.

Maybe I'm crazy but I think over time when you are less upset about this you will change your mind.  Over the beta process, I have really gained a profound respect for these guys, because they respect us.  They really listened to us and made us a part of the process more than any other beta now days.  On top of that you have employees and the CEO on here trying to help people even when their offices are closed.  When you see all the post release support we get, if Sins of a solar empire and Galactic Civ are any indication, I really think you will change your mind.  Hard to be angry at a company who was screwed over by no fault of their own and who treat you the customer with respect.

To the OP, it would probably be best to stick with the key you already have, since Impulse Marketplace won't be out for a while yet and your existing registration is going to be linked to your forum account, etc. You might be able to install the game from the disc using the serial you already have, then give the box to your friend (and he uses the serial that is in it), but I'm not sure how the multiplayer will handle you since the beta serials are currently disabled.

If your preorder is still queued and you were not in the beta, then that's another story. You'd need to contact [email protected] to change the details of your preorder.

I'm big StarDock fan, these guys really rox. I'm also dissapointed how distribution went, but who is really to blame? I thought that company who lead distribution (isn't it supposed to be publisher?) have agreement with resellers, where should be stated when they are allowed to sell games they receive in predistribution. There should be huge punishment, just imagine they made fortune by taking monopol in selling game before anyone else. Its obvious that some moral issues there won't stop them doing so next time.

Its not Stardocks fault - simple as that. If a meteor hit their production factory and offices would you still be angry at Stardock and "not care about the who's, and what's etc." because Demigod would be delayed/not released. No you wouldn't, because its just pointless to be angry at someone for something thats totally out of their control.

You should be grateful they are giving all us pre-orders a day early then was originally planned.

I am sure that though we may not hear about it, lawyers may unfortunately already have been called.

As I posted on another thread, if nothing is done, gamestop or some other companies WILL do that again: sell before the street date, and that's not fair to the other resellers, and I'm not even speaking of the pre-ordering customers here. So, something has to be done. You say my post is astonishing. What's astonishing in my eyes is that even in this economic crisis I worked and scrounged $40 to put my hands on a game, I pre-ordered something whereas I could have gotten it elsewhere earlier. And for 4 or $5 more I could even have had a box. You think it's fair ? I don't. Stardock can do 2 things: sue the early resellers (yeah right... as if they're going to  do something to hurt people who help them sell their games) OR release the digital download now. Even buggy, even solo player only, who cares, at least we'd have something. Everyone's happy. But I guess that won't happen. Hence, pre-order cancellations. I'm out to the rollercoasters, that will cool me down a bit :D

OR release the digital download now.
First of all John they cant let us download anything. The offices are closed for Easter weekend so they cant even let us download it JUST for singleplayer.

Stardock can do 2 things: sue the early resellers (yeah right... as if they're going to  do something to hurt people who help them sell their games)

But what you dont understand is that Gamestop are making them lose money now. Of course they will try their hardest to sue them but whether it will actually happen we dont know.

So, something has to be done.

What makes you so sure that nothing is being done? They have already contacted Gamestop (whom said it was all "fantasy) and they are asking us to send in pictures of our receipts from Gamestop and Wallmart. Unless they want to look at those pictures just for laughs I think they are trying their best to do something.

I'm selfish.

Why don't you just say what you mean and stop hiding behind your BS?  It's. three. days.  If you feel so screwed over your life priorities need a serious adjustment.  And for God's sake who the hell expects something to happen on Easter weekend!?

Actually, it's not "people who help them sell their games". It's "people who are getting paid to sell the games". Selling them under a specific contract. They're not doing it out of charity - they're getting (lots of) money out of it. Screwing over the people who give you money is not something I'd call good business sense.

Joh48Smith...It shouldn't even be something to argue about or feel cheated\upset about. You need to understand that the only reason Stardock\GPG aren't cleaning up Gamestop's mess (without obligation to, at that) right now is because they are getting a well deserved weekend.

I've recently graduated from a college that focuses mostly on game development, I've three friends currently working on crappy wii party games (got to start somewhere, eh?) so I have a good idea of the entire process.

During crunch time, usually right before a game, you guys can't begin to realize how much work these guys put in. Usually working 7 days straight, most of the employees choose to take short lunches and even work off the clock. The gaming industry is brutal and thankless, and you don't get payed much. You pretty much have to orgasm every time you work on a game to have any reason to stay. The average hold rate (how long people stay in the **industry**, not just current workplace\company) last I checked is 2-3 years. That at the time was one of the shortest, period.

I recall not being able to hang out with those three for nearly a month, whenever they had free time they were sleeping. Add to this the fact that after all this hard work most games simply flop or do decently, and I honestly believe you should just relax and wait.

It's not their fault EB games failed and they already said they'd release the game to preorder customers if not for everyone taking the weekend off, likely the first they've had in weeks. Give them these damn two days, they have to deal with more than they were planning on come Monday. If you still don't want to wait, just go buy yourself a physical copy, send the sales team an email about canceling, and go play the game.

Blaming the Chef because your waitress dropped your meal just makes you seem less than sane.

Okay back on topic, since cleary John38BitchALot is derailing this.

I am in the same scenario, I bought a copy from GameStop but I still have the digital copy preordered.  I figure I'll give it to my friend, but I don't know if it's tied to my Impulse Account (thus potentially giving me 2 copies on one account) or what.  I will wait and see until Monday but obviously a reassurance now would be nice :)
