How big will the digital download be?

Sorry if I've missed it, but I just spent at least an hour looking for a size, and the best answer I got was a hazy 2.8gb.

I realise it requires 8gb free space, but how big is the download?

I don't wanna use up all my traffic downloading the game and not be able to play online! 8C

Download is roughly 1.8gb - 2.0gb.

You download the compressed file which then extracts to about 2.8gb.

The 8GB are used during installation I suppose (like temp folders etc.).

And if it extracts to 2.8gb, why does the game require 8gb under system requirements?

Most software creates some temp folders during installation, which are deleted after the installation.

When you download and extract any large file, here's how space ends up being used (this is true of any large download-and-extract system, not unique to Impulse):

  1. Initial Download: 2GB
  2. Temp Folder While Extracting: 2.8GB
  3. Destination Folder to copy to after extracting: 2.8GB

2+2.8+2.8 = 7.6 GB, just rounded to 8 for even-ness.  The assumption with that 8GB is also that you're downloading, extracting, and installing to the same drive (i.e. the most potentially limiting scenario).  After you download, unless you choose to download and archive, you'll reclaim the 4.8 GB from download and extraction at the end of the install process.

Handy to know the download size. We have horribly small download limits in this country, and I have to watch every game purchase to make sure it doesn't blow my quota out of the water :(

I believe we're processing pre-orders either Monday or very early Tuesday.  The office is currently closed for the Easter holiday.

yep, australian here :)

 

Would you believe that one of our telcos sells broadband with a 100mb limit, but then charges about 250 bucks a gig if you go over it! :)

 

I'm not on one of those though (20gb limit, which is ok if you don't watch much HD content). I don't have much sympathy for people crying about a 250gb limit in the US :D
