Urging People NOT To Cancel Pre-orders

Urging People NOT To Cancel Pre-orders

We all know Gamestop released Demigod early - whether its their fault or not im sure, but the point is that it is NOT Stardock's fault this happened. Gamestop releasing DG early was totally out of their hands, so I urge you not to cancel your pre-order of Demigod.

First of all, none of the mutiplayer is working properly, you can only play in "Pantheon" mode which 90% of the time will be vs a.i' s only (due to lack of people online).

Secondly cancelling your pre-orders from Stardock will you mean they lose money (or do not gain as much profit). Although you get your game 2-3 days early, Stardock will have less money in the future to spend on updates for Demigod (Such as adding new Demigod's, maps and items).

Thirdly, they really deserve credit for this game which they helped make (with GPG). They are releasing the game on Monday, which is a day earlier then expected for us which shows they are doing everything they can. If it was not Easter weekend im sure they would be able to do something about it now (as they have often worked on weekend days for us in the Beta when they had no obligation too) but since it is all the offices are closed.

Thanks Stardock for the great game and enjoy suing Gamestop for that extra $$$ :D

You know, if it was anyone other than Stardock, I probably would cancel my pre-order and rush out to buy the game.  Heaven knows I am not a patient person.  But when it comes to publishers, Stardock really are the "good guys".  I have been a big fan of Stardock ever since the first Galactic Civilizations, and I have bought Galciv 2, The Political Machine 1 and 2, and Sins of a Solar Empire (and it's new expansion).  I have been so impressed by the quality of games published by Stardock, I will only pre-order games from them (for everything else I wait until the reveiws come out).  More than the quality, however, is the commitment that Stardock has to continue supporting their games long after it is truly profitable.  This is something you just don't see in larger game companies (cough, ACTIVISION, cough).

It's one thing to pay lip service to a good company like Stardock, and talk about how great it would be if other game makers behaved as they did.  But it's moments like these where the rubber meets the road.  There is nothing stopping me from getting the game from Gamestop right now, but Stardock has asked that I don't.  It may not seem like much -- after all, my individual order is only worth $40 -- but it's my way of supporting a good company, and avoiding the hypocrisy of rewarding the bad behavior of unscrupulous institutions.  I hope that other players will follow suit, and wait the extra day to begin playing the game.  It really isn't a big request.  If gamers want to be treated better by game makers, it's moments like this that prove that we deserve it.

Trust me they are already contacting lawyers and showing Gamestop receipts (as they deny they were selling it) from people who purchases Demigod.

Quote from Frogboy:
"We're pissed"

Making them lose more money then they already will, will do no good to anyone. And buying from Gamestop just encourages them to do this more..

I called gamestop to reserve my copy of Demigod, because since easter is this weekend then that means that Ill be very busy. So I called to reserve it and they told me that its already out, so I figured okay well then they probably changed the release date, and I thought I get to play online today (friday) and check out the features. But when I got home after I bought the game, I couldnt play the multiplayer, so I just played 3 games of the single player, and now im busy with easter. Anyways my motive was to buy the game becuase gamestop sexy sales woman told me it was already out, not to encourage Gamestop with violating the release date.

Even though I only found out about the game on Thursday (through the PA forums) and pre-ordered it on the same day, I won't be cancelling to pick it up at GameStop. I have to stand by the one publisher I know who has stood against intrusive DRM, and I'd rather not give my money to a glorified pawn shop.

Stardock and their good deeds seem to be paying off now. Suprised at how many people are standing by their pre-orders and not fussing over the pre-order "delay".

For stardock this makes perfect sense. Impulse = online. Games like Gal Civ, Gal Civ 2, Sins, and Demigod are ALL games centered around multiplayer.

First half, true.  Second half convinces me you don't know anything about Stardock.

GalCiv and GalCiv2 are both singleplayer only!  :P

Well, I certainly can't fault you too much for falling prey to "sexy woman". She has been steering men astray since the beginning of time. Take this lesson to heart, and don't be such a putz in future.

Laughing out loud. This is the most succinct, accurate description of that company that I have ever read.

@Frogboy: You know that this is a deliberate act.  When you announced that you would support the reselling of PC games, you threatened their survival. They released the game early, assuming that someone would post it up on some P2P, and tank your release. The corporate mindset doesn't allow for integrity, honesty, or loyalty.

I think that you are right in your dealings with GS. Before they sink beneath the waves they may see the error of their ways.  I think that "Elemental" could be your biggest hit, and it could be a mistake to burn the bridge of this revenue stream.

You should shitcan whatever attorney that wrote up this contract.

They do it with like half the games they sell.

Dont worry no one will get sued enough that GS shall have a grudge take off. And yes its a risk SD are willing to take, but the risk is literally non-existance. By not selling Stardock products because of the lawsuit they will just loose more money, which is not what Gamestop wants.
Let's be clear here, no one is going to be suing anyone. It doesn't work that way, especially since Gamestop's initial order was only a few thousand units, there just won't be that many people with the game.  We're extremely unhappy about it but there are other ways to address this than lawsuits.

Anyone remember in "Fight Club" The Car crashing due to falty parts analysis?

If Company A makes a mistake but gains more Profits in doing so equalling a significant amount more than Paying the fine to Company B.  Then they sometimes do it and deal with the consequences. (acknowledging they dont care as much about reputation) Gamestop has been accused of doing this more than once in the last year.
