Got charged twice for the game

Yea... I kinda got screwed.  I heard the game came out at Gamestop today so I went down and picked up a copy.  When I got home and put the key in, it registered the copy I just bought as the preorder I got through Impulse.  Since Impulse doesn't charge anything until the game was released, it charged me thinking the key I put in was the one through the digital preorder.  So I paid twice for the game and only got 1 key.  Anyway I can get a refund for the preorder I forgot to cancel before I entered my key?

shame on you for getting it at gamestop

part of me wants you to have to pay for two because of that. stardock, however, is nicer than me, so chances are they will help

also, this sounds rather convoluted, from what I have heard, the keys from the purchases are different then beta ones because can register now, were you in beta?

Well I bought it at Gamestop before I saw all the posts about Stardock losing money off of this.  If I could take it back to Gamestop for a refund I would but their policy is retarded for PC games, especially ones with cd keys.  I wasn't in the beta, I preordered a week ago, once I found out about this game.  If I had the extra cash, it wouldn't bother me since the game is amazing; but, times are hard so the money, it wears thin :O.

They'll probably just tell you to email their sales team and get a refund process started.

He's trying to run a scam I think, since the financial transaction runs when they send you the key, not when you register it.

His story is thus:  He bought the game at GameStop, and when he put in the key on Impulse it (This is where the story gets stupid)  thought it was the key he got from his preorder  (Despite that I assume it knows that was the code of a boxed version, since they have serperate SKUs) and then it ran the charge for his preorder, which he should have cancelled anyways.

Sounds kinda rediculous..

Added note, could just be a horrendous glitch that happens by combining a pre-order and a pre-release key, but it seems we would'be heard of this problem before.

Yeah, doesn't work like that. The most he'll have is a hold until the preorders are processed on Monday, but a hold only lasts 24-48 hours after the initial order typically.

If you need to change your preorder, contact [email protected].

Thanks Kryo.  It must be a random glitch because when I registered the key it even said 'Digital Download (Preorder)'  next to the game.

And Rainwolf.

"Thank you for your order. No charge has been posted against your credit card at this time. Your order contained a pre-order item and has been accepted. You will be notified via email when the product(s) are available and have been processed. At that time, your credit card will be charged. Please print this page for your records. For questions regarding your pre-order, please contact [email protected] and include your Order number located below."

Everyone who preordered through Impulse should've recieved the same email.

Yeah, I have my e-mail like that, and what it means is that when the game is released you will get an e-mail with your key and get charged at that time.

That's weird, my email doesn't say that.  It says:

"Thank you for your order. Your order has been accepted and is being processed. Please print this page for your records. For questions regarding your order, please contact [email protected] and include your Order number located below. "

And it actually charged me instantly too.  Back in January though.

That was because you ordered during one of the periods where preorders got you straight into the beta.  If we weren't letting people into the beta right when you preordered, you would have received the "you have not been charged at this time" email.

Ah, so you charged right away to curb people preordering, then getting a beta key, then cancelling the preorder?

Not quite...

Basically, one of the benifits of pre-ordering is that you get in on the beta.  But to cut down on the confusion, you can only enter at certain times (when entering a new 'major beta' phase).  You get charged the minute you get your seriel number, always.  It's just that you need the seriel to be in the beta.
