Hmm... Hows about a STORYLINE for singleplayer!

I just went n' got this game earlier today, and I really enjoy it! But... with how the hype built this game up to be rpg/strategy, i was really dissapointed that there was practically no storyline to draw the player into the game more and connect with his/her demigod. Yeah, i get that the progenitor was ousted and theres a new job opening that everyones tryin' to get, but what are the personal motivations of the demigods to want to battle it out with each other? Whats driving them to compete for godship? Give us something more than the little biography you get when picking your dg.

Maybe this seems like an insignificant gripe to some, but like I said, I was just a little bummed that I was thrown into an arena with my fellow demigods and not given any reason or motivation for it.

anywho.. still a great game. Good job Gpg/Stardock!

I thought the sp would just be skirmish.

im disappointed in the sp game. i didnt buy this for multiplay, kept hoping we'd get to see some of the sp game in beta, and now i know theres pretty much no sp game to speak of... well, lets just say im looking forward to that whole "sell back your game" thing on impulse.

SP is what they always said it would be.  You can do SP custom games and SP tournaments.  We've known that for ages.

I still think its fun.

yeah but i expected some kind of... SOMEthing more than just skirmish. ok, i guess we got "string of skirmishes with a scoreboard"... but whatever happened to campaigns? i mean, theres a lot that could have been done with this for the single player game instead of just... skirmish.

i dunno, its just disappointing. i realize this is the future of gaming, and if i want to play games anymore im just going to have to learn to choke down the bile that rises at the thought of playing with other people but still, doesnt mean i have to like it.

ok well, i finally finished one of the tournaments, and i guess it isnt any thinner on story than your average fighting game. so in a way i guess demigod is the street fighter of RTSes maybe.

besides, you gotta love the voiceover guy at the end...

"YOU ARE NOW A GHAWD-UH!!"

End of radiobabylon's quote

I guess that's one way of looking at it.  Even so (and I haven't played Street Fighter), a lot of fighting games at least have some cut scenes.  I think a few cut scenes in between matches would add a lot to the game.

I was REALLY disappointed with the lack or story / lore involved with the single player. Single player turned out to be just there pretty much. It carried no weight to the package it seemed like it was thrown together last minute. I just hope multiplayer turns out to be excellant.

dude this game is all about MPLAYER.

its not a fucking role playing game is it? or adventure game.

its A stradegy game just like DOTA. almost

is DOTA a single player game or map ? no. unless u want to play with AI .

it isn't fun playing by yourself on DOTA is it? and pretty much i can't find a story with a game like DOTA. can you?

please think of one. its like asking yourself... why don't left 4 dead has a full story ?

A game gets released and hype is surrounding the story and BAM it sucks big time and people hate it.  Now in our case no story, or rather very little and people whine that it dosnt have one... damned if ya do, damned if ya dont.  I personally think that the back story on the Demigods is pretty awesome, and well thought out.  seriously though with all the cliched stories in video games these days, arnt you atleast happy that stardock dosnt give us another one?

Not to add fuel to the fire, Frogboy posted back in the fall of last year that he had some "revolutionary" ideas to make the single player more than just a set of combats against AIs.

The tourney mode was a part of this but, I have a feeling that there was something cut out.  Prior interviews with developers from GPG and Stardock also made mention about things like using favor to hinder opponent Demigods, permanent/temorary Single Player advantages for their demigod, or Permanent Demigod specific Gear to pimp them out.

I like the game.  I enjoy the Single Player against the AI.  I like the favor system.  When Multiplayer works, it's pretty nice.  Heck I love winning from the underdog position of a 3 on 1 via Pantheon.

I do feel that a basic tutorial wouldn't have been amiss.  Heck, I was in the beta for 7 months before someone told me how to buy Favor items.

I'd recommend this game to my friends who enjoy action/tactical RPGs but, I'd caution them to not expect a huge single player experience.

^^ glad someone else mentioned this... as i remembered something about this too,  but couldnt be arsed to look for it and didnt feel like dealing with the "link or it didnt happen" bs that inevitably follows.

i suspected that we were going to get screwed out of a *real* single player game when we didnt see anything in the beta. im awfully disappointed to find out i was right :(

dont be suprised if they generously offer to SELL us these features as the first expansion though.

i would have liked a Tekken-style beginning and ending movies for each demigod.  but in terms of story...u got it in the pregame cinematics.  this is arena based combat.  like a game such as unreal tournament, it's just about beating ur opponents so that u can be the best (or in this case, a god).

For me, it was obvious throughout the entire period from announcement to release that this game wouldn't have any in-depth singleplayer component.  There was no info released about specific plot elements, only an overall theme, there was zero gameplay was shown that wasn't a balanced match (campaigns are never balanced), and Stardock is pretty well-known for producing multi-player only games.  Honestly, if you thought there would be a campaign, you simply weren't doing any research.

P.S.: If you REALLY prefer singleplayer over multiplayer, I pity you :\

Well pity away then but some of us do enjoy single player sometimes, and its even better when there is a good story to go with it.

Its not like anyone is wanting to take your multiplayer away we would just like single player added.
