Help me Decide...

I need some friendly convincing :-)

Hello Everyone;

I picked up a copy of DemiGod today at EB Games (grabbed the collectors edition since it was only $5 more :grin: ). So I'm sitting at home and haven't open the box yet...

My dilemma is that I have a half dozen RTS games sitting on my shelf, one being Sins and one being SupCom, none of them get played. I just can't get in to a game that has a massive learning curve or needs to be played daily to remember how it all works. I'm a bit of a casual player is what I'm getting at.

So, should I open this box or just take it back before I have another RTS sitting on my shelf unplayed? I'm asking because I have read that this game is fairly straight forward to play and it is designed for something like instant gratification versus games that take hours to play and again the monster learning curve. Is the advertisements about the game true? Especially the one that talk about simple RTS controls and an RPG element?

BTW I have played several TD style games on my computer and on my Ipod Touch and do enjoy them quite a bit. Is there any similarity between this game and those types of games?

much like WC3 for me, many different game types combind into one, not just DOTA. I enjoy it a lot and no longer have a reason to play WC3 or any other rts, this'll keep me going for a long time.

i've played sins, very long battles on sins, on demigod i havn't had any matchs over an hour yet which i like, if i have things to do and a little bit of free time i can always log on and progress my character(favor points) with what little time i have.

the UI is very easy to read and pick up quickly as well, the game is flawless for me so far... besides the lag which is understandable i guess for a game thats just been released.

The last RTS I played almost to completion was Starcraft and to be blunt I sucked at it :-). I am interested in the Assassin DG's as they seem to be more about just controlling the main DG itself and learning how to effectively have the DG interact with the arena and the DG's Allies, is this more or less correct? Oh BTW I also have Dawn of War 2 which I do find fun as it seems dumbed down just about right for me :-).

it is very different then most rts's. i;d open it if i were you, but the plague of server problems may deter you. so either open and be aware of current problems, or if you know you are gonna be frusterated, just hold off for a bit and either wait for demo or play other games and open later

Well if you've ever played DOTA you'd know right off the bat if you like this.  The bit of "learning curve", if anything, in this game is knowing when to move your character back -- that is, knowing when you don't have enough life to push forward.  The game focuses on team work, knowing when to help an Ally and when to let them die.  Obviously, if Oak is about to die, and has that divine god invulnerability, you're gonna let him whop a little, and die, to do the most amount of damage being invulnerable.  It's these little nuances that keep the game fresh and make fun for learning all the bits and pieces to the whole game.  Apart from that -- PLAY IT!  OPEN IT!  It's a fantastic take on the side vs side combat thing.  The only gripe I have is that the flags and the respawning don't take seconds in real time regardless of lag.  If your computer is lagging, or hanging, the 'seconds' it takes to respawn or capture a flag point are about 2 or 3 real seconds for an in-game second.  That's kinda disappointing, but I don't know if there's a work around even for it.

Play it.  Quick bursts.  You'll see what this game's all about as soon as you bash down a Dark Tower with The Rook's giagantic hammer.  You'll know why you bought it, then.

OK I'm convinced :-) I'm opening the box now... :-) see some of you online soon. But I think I'll try a couple of bot based single player games just to get a feel for it before jumping online.

If you have any problems I suggest starting with the rook first. Also there's videos of gameplay on youtube that can help you get an idea of how to play better.

My suggestion is returning it to Gameslop and buying it direct from Stardock 8D. Well, that might be too late now, but next time!

Don't be in a huge rush to play online just yet as there are still connection issues to be fixed. It should get improved over the next few days/weeks, but right now it takes much longer than it should to find playable games and the connection issues detract a bit from the experience.

But single-player works out quite well and is quite stable. Games tend to last about 30minutes in length and are quite 'action-packed' without much downtime.
