Vampire Lord - Evasion glitch

Vampire Lord - Evasion glitch

Anyone else experience something like this when playing against the AI?

Scenario goes like this:  A buddy of mine and myself connect over multiplayer and load up two bots to face off against; one normal (Rook), one nightmare (Vampire Lord).  Vampire Lord sky-rockets to level 13 before we even hit 5, but we're still holding our own.  We even get to kill him a few times.  Towards the end, once he's already at 20 and we're struggling to get there, we start to notice that he's impossible to kill now, even with the two of us ganging up on him.  Fast forward to the end of the match, everyone's 20, everything's maxed out, all our gear is bought and now we're just duking it out to try and down the citadel.  Well that's not happening for us.  They've pushed us back into our base and we're forced to sit on the health/mana stone to even stay alive against the Vamp Lord.   Evade! Evade! Evade! Nothing connects.  After some experimenting, I find that the only two abilities I have that touch him are acid spit and the stun grab (Unclean Beast).

Long story short: we loose.  Now I've never played the Vamp Lord, so I'm not sure if he has some sort of ability that makes him impossible to hit with all but a few low-damage abilities.  I went through the items list while I was stuck on the crystal and didn't see anything in there that gave evade, let alone 100%.

Any words of wisdom about this?

Mist form?

Does that run for an unlimited amount of time?

I guess I didn't stress that we were NEVER able to hit him with anything other than what I described above, at all, once he was 20.  There's no way this can be "working as intended".

Well first of all the reason you found him so hard would be because he is was a nightmare a.i. These guys "cheat" and get extra experience/gold and i THINK maybe stats.

But it was probably mist form...Give him a quick go in a single player skirmish and see if thats what he was doing.

I'm fairly sure the AI cheats. It wouldn't be the first time a game company 'enhanced' difficulty settings by throwing in tweaks to the AI as improvements to it's game play.

You said the Vampire Lord "skyrockets to level 13 before we even hit 5". That alone implies the higher difficulty setting gives the AI more xp per kill. Using that line of thought, it makes sense the AI will also receive more gold per kill allowing it to purchase better upgrades and items sooner.

Basically, difficulty settings on an AI doesn't mean the AI "plays the game better". More often then not, it means the AI cheats. So, don't sweat it, you didn't face a glitch or any real problem outside of an AI opponant which was 'enhanced' to be difficult to beat.

Easy-Hard the AI does NOT cheat. Stardock are known for their AI in case you didn't know. On nightmare difficulty they do get a few bonus's, check the manual in the install folder if you want to see for yourself.

I had this happen to me in tournament mode (hard) at the end of a game when vamp was level 20 as well.  He was not in mist form and was evading every attach for what seemed like at least 5 seconds before I was killed.  It seems special abilities were the only that that would hurt him and base attacking did nothing but evade.  Not sure if it was permanent because my team lost shortly after it happened.

Stardock didn't make this game, they published it. Gas Powered Games made this game and I'm pretty sure the AI does, indeed, cheat. I'd try confirm vs. a human player, but... well... multiplayer doesn't work particuarly well, if at all.

So I fired up single player to get a look at the Vamp lords abilities and after reading about Myst "form", I've decided that's not at all what he was using.  When I had a better idea of what myst was, I knew what it looked like playing against him.  In myst, he's not even visible, but instead replaced by a swirling cloud.  The issue that I ran into was more along the lines of him running around, killing and capturing - all of which is described as a "no-go" while in myst form.

I guess I'll have to live with the explination that the nightmare AI "cheats" for now then.  Although he wasn't so difficult before this happened, and when it was occuring was wasn't more difficult - he was impossible.  There wasn't any way for us to win at all.  If there's a "god mode" code available for single player, he might as well have just entered that.

I've had this issue with every demigod at level 20, not just Vampire Lord.  I was playing a single-player tournament game on hard last night, and at the end all the AI demigods end up 'evading' tons of my attacks.

I'm not sure if that's just an AI thing that happens when they cap out on level on the hard difficulty, or if they all purchased some item that is giving them amazing evade chances.

Also their hitpoints regenerate at an amazing rate as well.
