Done with my first non stop playing stint...here are my suggestions for the future.

At the expense of a few participation points in classes & friends yelling at me to get off the computer, I’ve been playing pretty much non-stop since Monday afternoon.  Here are some thoughts so far on the game:

EXTREMLY addictive.  This is the great type of game that you sit to just play one skirmish and the next thing you know you’ve played 5+ and have lost 4 hours of your life.

This also leads to my main criticism; there is a lack of depth in single player and tournaments.  Other than favor points, there is no real benefit to winning any given match during a tournament.  I just got done playing through a tournament on ‘hard’ and won the whole thing while being on the losing team half the matches.  There needs to be some sort of persistent attribute to winning a tournament match, like say letting the player with the most favor points at the end of each match pick a buff for either themselves or whichever team they play for in the following matches (+25 HP per level, minions do more damage, etc).

Also, the lack of a tutorial is pretty annoying.  As someone who has never played a single game of Dota and picked up this game just because it looked interesting, it’s annoying to have to learn some of the basics just by accident.  I didn’t realize you could buy things other than potions from the shops until literally 4 or 5th skirmish.  I still feel like I’m missing things.

I think another great addition would be demigod specific armor and such that boosts their skills.  I think the best way to put these in would be to make them favor items. (example: a talisman that lets the rook put an extra tower down for every skill level it is on).  This would be another excellent persistent component, and make the game feel like more of an RPG.

Other than that, I’d like there to be more maps & demigods to play with but I’m sure that is something that will naturally be expanded on in the coming months (along with fixing the online issues).

I liked your insight and I mostly agree with you. Also, the box says you can play with up to 9 players online. But I was wondering... how do you do that with only 8 heroes?

You can have duplicate Demigods, obviously.

I don't feel this game needs a tutorial, nearly everything is common sense. I don't think anyone should need a tutorial to tell them "Hey! There are tabs on that screen, maybe you should press 'em as some of them look like helmets, bodies, stars, and other things."  Most of the other stuff I'd agree with, which basically boils down to more. More demigods, more items, more levels, ect.

I'm in favor of all three. Unique items and levels would be nice too. For example a level that's cut up by lava and control flags give your team access to portals that make moving around much easier for you and maybe even creeps.

New game types would be great as well. Another example "Warfare" where you get no flags, just two bases laden with towers. Creep type upgrades are produced slowly over time automatically (just the angels, priests, ect, no other upgrades) , and each side has a limited amount of creeps reinforcements. You win by reducing your opponent's reinforcement or by destroying their base and you gain bonus reinforcements for killing demigods and for every so many creep kills.

Might be fun.

it does cerulean, mayby you dont realize it because you have a strongbackground in these types of games but anyone new to the genre, its very overwhelming

especially no setup time, people playing the first few times dont even get a chance to read their skills let alone discover what items, upgrades and flags are where

a mission with tooltips or help bubbles would be great for beginners.

Do you guys feel the end of tree skills are powerful enough? I feel a little underwhelmed by the end of tree skills - i mean, i'd like some huge nuke or graphical effect thing that really looks like it's an 'end of tree's skill that you've built up to.

Yeah, I always have a "thats it?" moment when I get to level 20.

Also, there doesn't seem to be any way to prevent the other team from gaining the money needed to upgrade their citadel...which pretty much negates every upgrade you buy on your own.  It seems every game follows the same path, and you can tell in the first 10 minutes which side is going to win but you still have to invest 20+ minutes to make it happen.

Yeah it's this kind of thing that has me concerned about longevity. Though a good player i suppose can really overpower and outplay another making very aggressive forward attacks potent.

Just thought there'd be more in the way of 'super skill' type things for the higher level characters - particularly those end of tree skills.

I think a tutorial could help clear up some of the finer points like how does your war rank increase?  Can I make it raise faster and/or stop the other team's from rising as fast?

It took me a while in my first game to see the tabs as well, I noticed it mostly because I knew I should be able to buy gear other than potions.

Really the tabs on the left hand side need to glow/be highlighted subtly to draw players eyes to them.

Keep playing, I think you're missing something if that is the case. Playing Vs all hard computers (who get a large gold bonus I believe) were pretty hard.  They had killed all our towers on the left hand side and captured a portal.  We could get the portal back but it was always easy for them to attack that side.  They pushed into our center location and we were doing everything we could to stop them from attacking our fortress.  We finally managed a repreve and pushed back working on there towers and managed to get into and start attacking there fortress.  The game swung full pendiulm and while I know that won't happen every game, it is possible.

That happens to me pretty often in single player, especially if I'm using a new DG.  I lag behind a bit until I figure out the play style...then we come back and lay waste.  Feels pretty good to come back from the edge.
