EXTREAMLY low game launch sucess rate

Good old impulse buy + idiots on L4D public server meant I went and bought DemiGod via "Impulse" (aptly named ;) - well actually via the website and installed via impulse)

Problem is the game hardly launches

I have tried:

via the start icon

via impulse (trayicon, double-click on DemiGod, rightclick on demigod and goto run, bit run button at the bottom)

navigating to the install directory and double clicking

None will actually launch the game consistantly!

I have to try each method a number of times before one will actuall work

The only method that has a slightly higher suscess rate is going to c:\program...  and just holding down ENTER until the splashscreen appears

XP-Home

Nvidia 7900GT (latest drivers)

6Gig RAM (3.2Gig visible by XP-Home)

System is uptodate, using Comodo AV/FW

Even if I kill off all processes I can I still have issues launching this game

Any idea's?  while the game is ok (still getting the hang of it) if I am unable to play it I am going to have to find out if I can get a refund

using Comodo AV/FW
End of quote

Have you tried specifically disabling Defense+ in Comodo?

SAME EXACT problem you are having.. i had Comodo.

With that it would run maybe 1 out of 30+ attempts.

without it, it runs 100% of the time.

I have Vista Business 64 bit, Radeon 4850, 4Gb ram and E700 dualcore processor. I have Comodo, with Defense+ disabled. I shouldn't have any other programs running that might cause problems, but I've tried closing some non-vital background programs, too.

Game itself works well for me too, but it can take anywhere from 1 to 20 tries to actually launch it.

Well this doesn't seem to be a comodo issue at all

I killed off everything! no more comodo, no nothing and still it won't run

There is something EXTREAMLY flawed in this game. Searching the forums it seems it is a fairly common error and no real solution. Thankfully stardock will do a refund so I will wait a week or two and then see

This really isn't nice. I don't mine buggy games or imba games at launch. But for a game to actually not run is bad bad form.

No, do not end process. UNINSTALL it, comodo uses hooks that prevent many programs from running properly.

You didnt kill off everything. Firewalls run as services that dont appear in the process list. Uninstall the software or run the software and disable it.

sucks your having problems, two days ago i had tons of problems tryign to connect to games online, but all day yesterday the games online where workign perfect for me (i was 6/6 for games).

Hope you get it working bud, its quite a good game imo.

ok uninstalling Comodo (and installing Avira and just using XP-firewall) does mean the game will start every time now thanks

HOWEVER it now crashes 3min into any game W.T.F. !!!!

I have verified the install and Impulse says it is ok

One other thing.. I am a stickler for spelling.  Extremely is spelled EXTREMELY.  If you want people to take you seriously... learn to spell.  Or at least use a spell checker.  The developers are doing what they need to do in order to get this game into shape.

Seems like EXTREAM success for me, at least. Uninstalled Comodo, and it helped. Wonder what caused that conflict. Thanks :)

Though I wonder if Windows firewall is any good..

1) I apologies that my dxylexia offends you. It is not my fault I have had to live with it through GCSE's, A-Levels, Masters degree in Electrical engineering plus 10years in industry keeping things working

2) My ability or inability to spell does not make my issue any less real. My spelling was good enough for Stardock to take my hard earned £, so it is good enough to get support.

Your contribution to this thread has done nothing to resolve this issue and if anything is putting me off EVER buying anything from Stardock in future IF this is the kind of attitude I am going to be subjected to

My postings here have no bearing on what Stardock or GPG are doing.  It is my sole opinion.  A few things...

It is not "I apologies that my dxylexia.." it is

I apologize if my dyslexia offends you.   I can understand that dyslexia is a serious problem which impedes your ability to write properly.  However, unfortunately, I also have a problem..  it is called Obsessive–compulsive disorder.  In this case, my obsession is to correct grammar and spelling.

One other thing.. good luck with the E.E. Degree.  I have one in Physics.  Keep the V=IR and P=(I^2)*R alive..

for others having trouble launching the game, there is also a known conflict with google desktop AND the stardock guys have released a exe that works around it for many (but not all) people.

Stay on topic and stop trolling.  He just wants help.  The tech forums are the place for this most likely.

Why are you running an extra firewall? Very unnecessary.
