try running the game with admin. privileges; even if you're using an admin. account it sometimes needs to have that extra reassurance (on that note, it's probably some crazy security policy that's been added to your computer).

I am on an admin account and UAC is disabled, I have tried "Run as admin" anyway and it doesn't work.

Check the file permissions on that specific file and make sure you have access to read/modify it.  Also check and make sure you don't have any security applications preventing access to the file and locking it, which could cause this error.

Shirley has a point; there may be a file/folder that has had it's permissions changed so that the admin. group is barred from access.

it's kind of a moot point for an admin. as he (or she) still has the right to grant access to it.

you probably could right-click the root Demigod folder and tell it to force some nice rules on all subfiles and folders; as long as the new permissions will allow you and the program access then overwriting the existing permissions shouldn't do any harm.

I thought of all this already and tried it, i've also got no programs like antivirus that could be causing a problem like this.

I noticed after reinstalling the game it says : Vista users run the game from vista "game explorer" but I don't have this thing? could that be the problem? the game won't even run from the CD-autorun menu..
