The Demigod Idea part 2

The Puppeteer (General, Force of Darkness) its kinda long

Well here it is, the 2nd part of my idea.  Heck, there may even be a part 3 just keep checking!

Puppeteer (General, Force of Darkness)

Jacko Ternis was no ordinary man.  Everyone in the town agreed.

The town of Evermore, compared to other towns, was relatively plain and simple.  The people lived a simple life, and asked for nothing more.

Even before he could walk he had an undying love for his finely-stitched doll he received on his 1st birthday.  In his cradle or on the floor he would grab the doll hand by hand and shake it up and down in crude representation of a walk, and speak the language only a child could understand, pretending that it was the doll that spoke.  As he grew older he would name it Lucky for all the luck he felt when embracing it.

His love for dolls only grew when a gypsy group passed through the town.  One of the gypsies was a puppeteer, and to the audience he performed the tale of the White Prince and his fight against the Dark Knight, using finely carved dolls to play the part.  Their visit was short, but they had an everlasting impression on the boy.

Jacko immediately fell onto this with love only a hole could fill.  Every day he would visit the local toy-maker store and learn how to make dolls and small mannequins.  From morning until the store closed Jacko would sit on a bench and carve away at a wooden block.  When he was done, even when they weren't the best of work, the boy would eagerly attach strings to each of its limb and head, give it a name and begin to act with it.  It wasn't long before his skills as a doll-maker and puppeteer would rise.

Everybody in the town loved Jacko.  His abilities with a puppet are astounding.  He can make a puppet move, walk and dance like a real human.  Developing flair in ventriloquism, his dolls were almost alive with life itself, but no matter what he did, when he let go of the strings the dolls would revert back to their same inanimate state.  The only barrier to true life was the string and its creator, and Jacko was determined to remove that barrier.

There was an old and wizened mage in Evermore with the knowledge that goes beyond his mile long libraries of spells and arcane books.  When Jack asked the mage how he could truly bring his creation to life, the mage laughed the boy off.  As far as the mage was concerned, the boy brought enough life to his dolls and mannequins and didn’t need any spell to assist that.  The boy thought otherwise and planned to steal into the mage’s house that night.

The following night Jacko sneaked into the mage’s house and began his search through the multitudes of books that lay before him.  Every night he would spend in the mage’s house pouring through books and discovering spells that no man or woman could ever imagine, but none of the spells were what he wanted.

One night, as he began his search for the spell his eyes fell upon an old book.  In all outward appearance it looked like any book amongst the shelf, but something inside the boy’s heart told him what he searched for was inside.  When he opened the book, he was greeted with a mess of writings and pictographs.  Even so, he could make out the words “…bring to life…” or “…animate…” many times in the book.  This, he felt, was the book to achieve his goals.  Hiding the book in his bag, he ran out of the mage’s house and didn’t stop until he was in his room.

With the hexagrams written and the ingredients prepared in the solace of his room, he placed in the middle of it his first doll Lucky, reasoning that Lucky had always brought him the luck he needed (hence the name) and of all the dolls he wanted to talk to first, it would be Lucky.  With eager anticipation he began to chant the words needed to bring the doll to life.

The door to his room burst open just as he had finished the last syllable of the last word.  The old mage ran in and screamed, “Stop!”  But it was too late.  The spell was invoked and before anyone could realize what had happened a burning black light began to gather inside the doll.  Suddenly a burst of foul magic ripped through the air and sends both the old mage and the boy against the wall.

When the boy came to the first sight that greeted him was the most grotesque demon he had ever seen.  Worse still, it looked just like the doll Lucky, only a disgusting parody of it.  Rising above the height 3 times of a man, the demon gave the boy one glance, threw its head back and laughed.  Smashing the roof off, it jumped out of the boy’s house and began carnage upon the unsuspecting townsfolk.  Jacko ran to the old man’s corpse, shaking and screaming for him to end all this, but his pleading fell on dead ears.

Father and mother, friends and relatives did he see been ripped to shreds before him.  Jacko clawed at his face and cried and begged the demon to stop, but the demon cared not about the boy’s plea, and the slaughter continued.

After the demon butchered the last of the townsfolk, he walked towards the blood-drenched and spirit-broken boy and looked down on him.  He said, “I suppose I should thank you for bringing me to life, though I wished you’d pick a more compatible host.”  He bent down and, with 2 of his many fingers, picked the boy up by the neck.  “As a token of my undying gratitude,” the demon continued, “let me give you a gift from the bottom of my heart.”  And with a laugh the demon spoke in ancient tongues.  The boy felt his body changing…

Nobody goes to Evermore ever since the loss of 3 trade caravans.  The people in nearby towns and cities all spoke rumors of what resides in the now abandoned town.  Some spoke of walking life-sized dolls, shambling and murdering all they see.  Others spoke of bloodthirsty mannequins, laughing and dancing with knives in their hands.

But what no one said, or knew, was that amongst all these dolls one of them was different.  A small mannequin the size of a young boy with eyes wide and with a permanent rictus grin on its face forever.

This doll’s name was Jacko Ternis.

The Puppeteer is a general for the Force of Darkness.  I decided that his abilities lie in manipulation and annoying the crap out of his foes.  His attack is melee.  Here are some ideas:

1.0 sec cast Whiplash – Sharp as a blade he flings his ropes in a wide circle, cutting all those in range.  Deal 100 damage in X radius.  Those that take damage takes an additional 300/500/700etc damage over 10 seconds.
2.5 sec cast Pulling the strings – Whipping out a string he lasses a victim and pulls him close.  Deal 100/200/300etc damage and pull the target X distance to you.
3.0 sec cast Manipulation – Enemies of the Puppeteer find themselves doing actions against their will.  Control target Demigod for 3/4/5etc seconds.  You cannot move, attack, or use abilities/items when you are controlling a Demigod.
Mannequins of Life – When a reinforcement dies within X distance, they have X% chance to spawn a Mannequin under your control.  You can control up to 10 mannequins.
1.5 sec cast Tanglement – Shooting out his strings he ties and trips his foes.  Enemies in an area move X% slower.  Lasts 10 sec.

As you can see.  My idea for the Puppeteer is to really annoy the enemy.  Abilities like Pulling the Strings will really tick people off, especially when you want to escape.  Manipulation is a real killer here.  Being controlled, even for 3 secs, is bad enough for any god.  The options are endless here.

Feel free to leave a comment, suggestions, new abilities or what-not.  Part 3 will come soon enough.  Cheers!

one thing, taking control of an enemy demigod is a poor game mechanic. now making everything except the enemy demigods (summons, reinforcements, ect.) work for him for a little while while he is stunned himself, that could work.

Hmm, didn't think of that.  That's a good idea!

Originally when I planned the Puppeteer to control an enemy Demigod for a short while was to confuse the crap out of him/her/it.

First -- wall of text, dude. Second -- if you're going to build lore for your character, remember the lore for the game you're trying to place him in.  These are all sons and daughters of the Progenitor.  Nobody in this game is a wizard in the sense that they learned to weild arcane powers through a book.  It's all in the family, as they say.

As far as abilities -- you realize you made all your skills with cast times, where not a single demigod in the game already is without an ability that is cast almost instantly.

Also, being controlled by your enemy for a short time, as well as being able to pull them back towards you, as well as having a snare is too much.  You can essentially prevent any demigod from escaping more than long enough to allow one of your buddies to kill them no problem.  If you offset this with low survivability, it makes using Pull the Strings a death-wish.  You're trying to fit oranges into an apple pie, and then trying to get a pomegranate in there as well.  Theyr'e all good, but ... not together, I don't think.

Also -- next time, you shouldn't make 5 threads all linked together, just make one and reserve spaces underneath with which to edit later.  Were this a properly moderated forum, it's likely you'd get in trouble for that.

Indeed it is a wall of text.  Did kinda say that these posts were long :P

Also I'm very aware that the orignal 8 demigods were children of The Progenitor.  That doesn't mean, however, that those not born with the blood of a god in the can accertain god-hood.  But I can see what you mean.  Maybe I'll make another family of the Progenitor.

As for the abilities, that's a fault on my part.  The sec cast were suppose to be there to act as a limit, not the actual time it takes to cast the spell.  When I say 2.5 I don't mean "2.5 spell cast" I mean "should not exceed 2.5 sec spellcast".  Thank you for pointing out that error for me.  I'll add that to the next post.

Once again I am aware that taking control of another demigod is rather overrated.  But I did say these abilites were just to give an idea what the demigod is generally about.  But you are right.  Maybe I should go for a confusion type spell that just screws with the player's controls of the demigod.

Not sure what you mean with this last comment.  Do you mean I shouldn't name my posts part 1 part 2 part 3 etc?

No, you can edit your posts in this forum so what a lot of people are doing to prevent clutter but still share their ideas is creating a new thread and then posting "reserved" a few times in their thread which they can then edit with new content later, thus preserving space to expand beyond the max-characters-per-single-post.

Also, yeah, that Progenitor was one slutty SOB, so whats a few more families/bastard children? Plus I expect them to keep running with the 'ceremonial fratricide' aspect of the game. Its often overlooked, but I personally get a lot more enjoyment out of the game knowing I'm killing my brothers and sisters.  Maybe I have childhood issues...

So what you want me to do is in future add the word "reserved" after my new threads so that I can edit into them later?  But wouldn't the wall of words become even longer?  I know you mean well, but considering one "idea" of mine can be this long...

Also, I bet they had the Greek gods in mind when they created the Progenitor (which his name is a fancy way of saying "Ancestor"), after all the Greek gods did have sex with alot of other non-gods.  But yeah, I suppose the 'ceremonial fratricide' would continue.  Quite popular in ancient myth I hear.  If people wonder why you enjoy killing your brothers and sisters, just tell them "I'm bringing sibling rivalry to a whole new level!"

Check out this post (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/347872) to see what I meant, cause I think I'm still being confusing, but its not a big deal anyways.

You have a good sense of humor, you know.  I'm sort of a religion buff, so sorry if I'm geekin out on you but it wasn't just the Greeks -- most old religions have very colorful god-families.  Did you know most early civilizations (greeks, indians, babylonians), independent of each other, agreed its okay for gods to commit incest but at the same time agreed humans shouldn't? Before the rise of the (academically-speaking more boring) Abrahamic tradition, religion was frikkin crazy!

I do find it strange, though, that in a game about semi-deities, we have so few religious staples.  All we got was, as far as legendary staples, a fallen angel, a fairy, and a vampire.  I guess they were trying to be original, but I would've really liked to see a Tiamat knockoff or maybe a sphinx?  Maybe even a knockoff of one of the many hindu gods? Something ancient in design. ... Oh well...

I liked the idea of the Puppeteer,

Some of the skills you gave him are maybe OP, like Manipulation is way overpowered, you could replace Manipulation with a spell that works like Erebus's mist but empowers your minions,

The story was a good but, the writing was very poor and fragmented.  Reading it aloud would probably make that clear to you

Oh, and your entire story should be in past-tense things like are and can should be were and could

Not trying to bash ur story or anything,

Good work

Saw the link.  I FINALLY get what you mean.  Damn these hollowless words that screws everyone up!

Thanks for the compliment.  Yeah religion has never left me too well of an impression, even though I was a christian.  But really, I never knew other religions had the same "colofur god-families" as you said.  But I suppose I shouldn't be too suprised about it, since we humans are such hyprocrites when it comes to OUR interest.  A smart guy once said "We created gods so that they can create us".

I suppose they ain't doing their research too deep eh?  Guess they're just sticking to the western hemisphere for now.  I would really dig Buddha comming in and just go "Krunk fo' shizzle B*tch!".  Hmmm, maybe I should do a bit of research.  I am thinking about the next Force of Darkness demigod.  Any ideas?  PM me if you want.

No offense taken.  Yeah my only problem is that I don't really proof-read my works that well.  Guess I'm just a lazy bastard and I leave it the commenters like yourself to do the job for me!  Hurry up slave!  *whiplash*
