Performance issues especially on the brothers map.. any tips?

My system specs are: Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2.4GHZ dual core), 2GB RAM, 8800GT 512MB

 

I turned off AA. Texture & level of detail settings seem to have a huge impact on visual quality but very little impact on fps.

On the brothers map my simspeed drops to 1-0 quite quickly, scrollspeed slows down a lot and it becomes really hard to play effectively. Also it affects all other players from what I read :'( Well I guess They still have good framerates and scrollspeed, the game just slows down for them but still... It's not that bad on the other 2 large maps but later in the game with lots of creeps it slows down too.

 

Of course in custom games I just avoid playing on those maps but once the networking issues are fixed I plan to play pantheon so...

 

Are there any ini settings for more graphic options and improved performance?

I had a friend that was having a lot of trouble playing the game with an AMD and Nvidia setup.  I personally have an Intel/Nvidia combo (better than yours, but not as good as my friend's) and I run the game flawlessly with max settings.

Only thing I can think of is to check if all your drivers are up to date.

Also, what exactly is Sim Speed?

All drivers are up to date.

You can see your simspeed on the scoreboard. Low simspeed will slow the game down and in multiplayer games it plays at the speed of the player with the lowest simspeed.

Make sure you turn graphics all the way to low or off.  Also turn audio to low settings.

Also try /nosound option which has helped some people with performance.  Since your simspeed is 0 or 1, then the cpu is the bottleneck.  Try to overclock it.
