Would I still be able to download patches (register) if I bought this off of ebay?

I don't really want to buy Demigod off of ebay, I'd rather give the money directly to the developer. So I'm just asking out of curiosities sake.

If someone already registered the serial number under one email address, does that mean if someone were to buy it off of ebay they couldn't register the game to another email address? Or could they? How would this work...

If the number is registered, it's registered. You won't be able to play online or receive updates. I don't condone piracy, but you might as well acquire the game through other means than purchase it through eBay. If someone sells their game on eBay they're still able to play it online, and they get a partial refund in effect...so no, definitely don't buy from eBay!

I don't know for sure; but I believe that the code would be linked to your Impulse account and once the code has been used it will be deactivated so no one else would be able to use the code.  If you are planning on getting the game I would definitely reccomend a source that would have some sort of protection and have a proof of purchase (only $40 directly from Impulse).

Thanks for the reply! I am not buying from ebay, I was merely curious how this would've worked. I see how this works now, definitely not in the buyer's favor. Seller still gets to keep his/her game through impulse, makes a profit off of the person he/she is selling to, and on top of that since they're probably still registered, the buyer couldn't access online.

Screw that. I admit there are some great prices for the game on ebay, but I'd rather hand the money to the developer and I don't want to take any chances either, either way. Thanks for letting me know.

I'm tight on cash at the moment and still don't know when I'll be able to afford the game. I loathe piracy, so that's not even an option and besides, I like the updates Stardock hands out. I guess I'll just have to sit tight and wait, as hard as that is... I want this game so bad. :(

Report the seller?

Eh, too much of a hassle. So I report them. Then what? Either way I got shafted. And then I have a whole mess to deal with.

Definitely a good thing you asked here first to avoid assured disappointment. For anyone thinking about going this route, play it safe and avoid the ebay route. With the serial on someone else's account you would never be able to get updates or to play online.

Newegg has the game for 35 bucks new, but... even though that is enticing I still would rather give the money to the developer/publisher. Thing is, I prefer having a retail box as opposed to just strictly a digital download.. and I can't afford the collector's edition even though I'd rather have that. The bad economic times have really screwed me over.

I have purchased several games off eBay and have not had a problem with the online account.  You need to be careful though and make sure that you purchase it from someone with good feedback.  You should also send an e-mail to them and ask them whether this includes online play.

How many of those games tie the game to a personal account in Impulse or Steam or the like, though?  In order to get Demigod online after someone has activated it, they'd either have to give the buyer their account credentials too, or contact Stardock and ask if they can de-register the serial number.

Every bootlegger (and there are a lot of them) I've seen on ebay has had excellent feedback. That doesn't mean they had legitimate products that were capable of being registered.
