Specific counters for each demigod

Help me add to my list

Plenty of people are complaining about 'x demigod is unbalanced,' and many times for the wrong reason (they simply don't know how to beat them), or to an exaggerated point. Because of that, it would be nice to compile a list of good counters so that the balance of each demigod is easier to review, and so that less people complain about how oeverpowered a demigod is just because they can't beat them(although it's likely that the people complaining for that reason either don't care to learn how to beat their enemy, or are too stupid to).

The list I have compiled right here is based solely on my own experience, so it's still very incomplete. And note that, being based only on what I've seen, some of the information may be ineffective or just plain wrong, depending on the level of play. I apologize for any errors.

Lord Erebus

-Early game, pretty much any non-squishy demigod has the power to outdamage Erebus for more damage then he can heal in 1 on 1. Namely, Unclean Beast, especially since most Erebus players rarely take mist form.

-Late game Rook has a fun time against Erebus, as with enough towers, Erebus has trouble getting in range to do enough damage, while still being able to survive against all of Rook's towers AND Rook himself. Once Rook gets enough momentum, Erebus needs to either be very lucky, or catch rook at a very bad time in order to win.

-Early game, before he gets bats, Regulus can easily take Erebus down, since he has to slowly walk all the way to Regulus. Once he gets bats though, the situation starts to even out a bit, however, if Regulus can do enough damage, Erebus will likely be unable to flee in time, thanks to the long recast time of bats. Essentially, once Erebus teleports onto Regulus, he has to commit to it.

-Since Erebus' survival is reliant on his bite skill, characters like Queen of Thorns and Oak, who have skills that absorb damage, can end up killing Erebus fairly easily in the right situation, or at least forcing him to run away, as they deny him the health needed to survive, and the damage needed to kill. What makes this even better is that these buffs can be applied to anyone. Sedna's healing also allows her to stall Erebus very well, since her heal covers more then his bite, and has the same recovery time.

-By limiting Erebus' skill usage, be it through silence, draining, or stunning him, Erebus loses much of his power. Without access to his skills, Erebus loses his mobility, his survivability, and his damage, crippling him, as his stats are actually fairly low, especially at earlier levels. As such, skills like Sedna's Silence, various stuns, and Torch Bearer's Biting Chill are very useful moves against the vampire king.

The Oak

-Regulus

-Oak has troubles early game, since he doesn't have access to all his favourite tools right then and there. Despite being fairly durable even early on, he's really not that dangerous from the beginning. That's not to say he shouldn't be approached without caution, but I've found that he's much easier to kill at low levels when he doesn't have the tools he needs to be as devastating as he can be.

(I have not played enough as or against this character to know any more)

Unclean Beast

-Low health means that he's fairly easy to kill at lower levels, should you survive long enough(unlikely, but possible).

-UB's self heal is fairly weak, which means that his resiliance is pretty much limited to killing you as soon as possible. With support, or good use of healing, a UB who is tanked is dead.

-Skills like Erebus' Mist, Oak's Shield, and QoT's Bramble Shield reduce/cancel/ignore the effects of UB's Venom Spit, causing his damage damage to be reduced considerably for a short period. By using these skills as soon as he hits with the skill, it's possible to avoid any extra damage it would incur.

(I have not played enough as or against this character to know any more)

Torch Bearer

-With his low health, Torch Bearer is a fairly squishy demigod. This makes him an easy target early on, since he's easy to kill. Combined with his average movement speed, he has a hard time against faster demigods.

-Lacks any form of self heal, so he's unable to survive in prolonged combat. This can be offset by potions, but with the casting time associated with them, he's likely to die if he stays in combat to use them. As such, he needs allied support to really push forward.

-Similar to Erebus, TB's highly dependant on skills to do much of anything. However, unlike Erebus, he doesn't need to be in melee range to fight, so the situations where you'd be vulnerable are less devestating.

(I have not played enough as or against this character to know any more)

Regulus

-Lowest health and armour in the game, Regulus dies to anything that sneezes in his general direction. If you can get into combat with him, so long as you're not already half dead, your chances or survival, or even a kill, are pretty damn good.

-Regulus' slow attack speed and close range effectiveness of his skills is fairly... lacklustre. Because of this, he's at even more of a disadvantage at close range. Since close combat usually means death to poor Reggie, he's very vulnerable to sneak attacks.

-Similar to Torch Bearer, Regulus lacks any form of self heal. This is even worse for Regulus because his durability is even less then TB's.

-Similar to Erebus, Reggie is dependant on skills to be his most effective. However, unlike Erebus, he doesn't need to be in melee range to fight, so the situations where you'd be vulnerable are less devastating.

(I have not played enough as or against this character to know any more)

Rook

-If you havn't already noticed, he's really, really slow. Catch him in a bad position, and he'll need a lot of luck to get out of it alive.

-Early game, rook tends to lack any of the abilities needed to go head to head with other demigods. If you can manage to hunt him down early on, it might be worth your while to do your very best to shut him down as much as possible, If you keep him dead long enough at the periods where he's weakest, you might just do enough to keep him at a much weaker state then you are throughout. This is very important, since once a good Rook gets up to speed, he can seem almost unstoppable.

-Rook's low speed and lack of long range attacks makes him vulnerable to ranged characters like Regulus, and to an extent, torch bearer(although arrows and towers help him quite a bit in this).

(I have not played enough as or against this character to know any more)

Sedna

-Early game, Sedna lacks the mana to effectivly damage and heal at the same time. Use that to your advantage by forcing her to heal, and she'll have to run or die, since she lacks the mana pool to heal more or hurt you.(thanks woppin)

-Mid game, Regulus and his Mark of the Betrayer almost negate Sedna's healing abilities, and his range keeps him from being hurt by her. With speed buffs, Regulus is the perfect Sedna harrasser.(thanks woppin)

-Despite the fact that Sedna's an incredible tank when she has her heals and high health regen, she's very fragile without them. Us this to your advantage by taking stuns to give you openings where she's unable to heal herself, and coordinate your attacks to cause large spikes of damage. Sedna resists pressure very well, but against stuns and spikes, she's a fairly quick kill.(thanks woppin)

-Mid-to-late-game, focus on outpressuring her, and just go for DPS. Although Sedna can deal with pressure very well, she doesn't have the damage output to really kill it without assistance from an ally, which means it shouldn't be *too* hard to keep the pressure up. If you're constantly hurting her, she won't be able to use heart of life to restore her mana either. Sooner or later, she'll start to run dry, and when she does, she'll either run, or you'll be able to kill her.(thanks woppin)

(I have not played enough as or against this character to know any more)

The Queen of Thorns

-Very reliant on skills and energy. Draining her, silencing her, or forcing her into a position where she has to use lots of energy will break her. This is much easier to do early on in the game, where energy is much harder to manage.  (thanks Daikaze)

-Not very good in one on one fights. Despite being an AoE monster, when against powerful DGs, she doesn't have much to rely on other then her shield. Just keep harrassing her. Anyone can fullfill this job really, you just need to outdamage her.(thanks Daikaze)

(I have not played enough as or against this character to know any more)

This is just a list of what I could sum up from my limited experience. Hopefully some more of you can add more to this, as I know it's no where near complete.

Some counters to the QoT:

Pros:

AOE Damage! Her AOE makes her into a creep annihilator.

Debuff effects: She can slow enemies and reduce their armor.

Anti-Structure: She can blast through structures with ease. Compost, Uproot, and Ground Spikes will allow her to make short work of structures.

Shield: She can shield herself and allies.

Cons:

Low health

Uses mana fast

Shield doesn't scale well. Characters like Oak and Regulus will make short work of her shield.

Early game:

Early game her shield is a bit tough. Just don't pick a fight with her early game, as it is a waste of time. However, if you can fighter her 2v1 then the harassment isn't a bad idea. The QoT levels faster than most Demigods, so you have to be careful.

In the beginning of the game she will only be able to shield a few times ( like 3 ) without having to regenerate her mana somehow.

Make sure you have the +health regen upgrade for your structures, otherwise she will push fast.

Mid Game:

At this point the QoT will have some gear; Odds are she will have a helmet and a "Heart of Life" and so she won't ever be far from the fight and she will keep her shield up as much as possible. High attack speed/damage will get through the shield fast. Due to the short cooldown she will still be hard to kill.

QoT will push hard at this point. Just keep her from taking down your towers and you should be fine.

Late/End Game:

So, this is where the QoT seems to be easiest to kill, but it's also when her damage output is incredible.

Beware a high damage + Ground Spikes QoT. Ground Spikes reduce your armor, and so her damage will be even greater.

The range on Spike Wave increases as the skill inceases. At level 15 she can hit you from quite a long distance.

Always:

Run early (half health). QoT has a shield and is usually willing to give chase for a kill... This can also be her undoing. In the mid to late game her Spike Wave makes it easy for her to get kills on fleeing Demigods.

If the QoT runs, take a ranged shot at her (whatever you can) so that you can make sure she isn't usingthe Heart of Life.

If you notice her using mulch then you have a few options: 1) Let her burn her mana and then kill her. 2) Kill her Shamblers with AOE or Parasite egg.

Hopefully that helps.

Here's some counters...

Tower Spamming Rook - Take out his towers and his screwed, or distract them with creeps and kill him quickly. Erebus with minions is extremely annoying when playing this build, since his minions absorb all the tower fire, allowing Erebus to walk in and attack.

The only other real option is to overwhelm Rook with several DGs at once.

Oak can counter Regulus and UB with assassin type build, high armor and run speed. But you become vulnerable to spellcasters.

Not true, and I say this as an Erebus player. Erebus will win the battle if he has level 1 bite.

I might disagree on this slightly. early rook with some towers can pretty much hold position vs melee DGs, as they will be taking extra damage. most won't try to come near for more than a few seconds, except probably the UB with its high armor and spit.

I think OP is lacking minion experience or just simply forgot minion. Alot of general's problem can be fixed by idol minions.

It is a start though.

I use idol minions with any general I use, and I still encounter many of the problems listed there. For example, my Erebus build uses idols, and is completely decimated by rook regardless.

In the case of Regulus, although Erebus can win with bite, he's forced to commit to either killing him or running away very early, as Regulus gets free shots to kill if Erebus runs too late. In single combat, it's definetly possible for Erebus to win, it's that, should something go wrong, Regulus can easily gain the upper hand.

Mine reg can out-range towers while having better cover. Level 1 mines can do 1800 with the 6 mine limit. That one shots a few demi's.

Countering Sedna:

Early game: Expect to get pounced, often, and don't underestmate the damage and interrupt potential it has. If you're on your own, kill her monks first, then retreat. As a Sedna player i find I'm low on mana right at the start, so I can't chain pounces and heals. This means if you can deal enough damage to force me to heal, and survive my pounce, I'm pretty screwed. Without monks, and with no mana, I'm even more screwed so its back to the crystal. Unfortunately you can't see how much mana opposing players have, so you'll need to guess.

Mid game: Sedna tends to start getting fast (inner grace, speed items etc.) and can be a real pain because she can move in, pounce, move out, heal, then pounce you again if you've chased her. I find the players that cause me most trouble are those playing regulus with MotB and maim, which means i can get in/out easily, and potentially can't retreat either. If you are up against a speedy Sedna, get the wand of speed and chase them down. They'll hate you for it.

Also anything with a stun effect. UB with grasp and Rook with Boulder roll can render Sedna very vulnerable for enough time for a team nuke attack. Sedna has high health regen, but is vulnerable to nukes without her heal ability.

Rook and UB can also be a pain by taking the trebuchet and the ongoing damage skill for UB (i forget what it is) which prevents Sed for using the heart of life she will almost certainly take for the mana regen component.

Late Game. Go DPS and high health. Sedna has really poor dps so she wont hurt you too much, but watch for bracelet of rage and pounce interrupts that can catch you off guard.

NOTE: I dont use yetis or play with a minion focus so these tactics might not work against other Sed players.

I play as Lord E all the time, and lately have been outkilling my opponents by 15+ kills. How I usually end up dying is I get stunned, slowed, or silenced when low on health. This doesn't allow to bat teleport out of the fray and get away from the damage I'm taking.

If rook is able to stay behind towers, he'll be safe, but caught without them in the open he's done late game.

Regulus can definitely be a problem especially if I'm focused on killing another player at the moment, or all up in the mix with like 80+ reinforcements running around and I can't quite see he is hitting me. I take bats right away at level 5, so he generally isn't a problem early game. If a Lord E player is playing proper lifestyle and attack speed% +++ then he will eat Regulus alive if he teleports in on him late game.

QoT and Oak's shielding effects can be somewhat of a problem mid game (Levels 10 - 15) for Lord E, because I really haven't gotten the cash to get all my lifesteal and attack speed + gear yet, and oaks shield causes a problem when trying to get kills and he helps other player make it past a tower to safety. Late game with Lifesteal and Attk Speed ++, those abilities are a joke because even though I'm not draining the health from them, I'm still getting the health from lifesteal, so I just wait out their shield and kill them quickly afterwards. There's times when I'll go attack a player when I got low life cuz I know fighting him will heal me and probably net a kill.

Senda can be a problem for sure if she if played right. Early on you can basically get her an limitless pool of mana and she can just heal the shit out of herself over and over.

Number one deaths for me are:

Get teamed up with hella units around so I can't quite see what is going on

I get greedy and go for a kill when they run past towers, and get killed half the time

Or, I'm unable to escape the battle cuz I got stunned, silenced, or slowed with low health

Erebus is also vulnerable to ganking right after he uses bats. Get one of your allies with low health to draw him near, have him use bats, and then run in while it's still recovering. If you have enough move speed upgrades to keep up with him, you can easily gang up on him.

The big weakness with bats is that it's a move that pretty much forces you to commit to whatever you do, unless it's running away. People need to take advantage of that if they want to beat the more... zealous... vampires.

 One of my favorite moves to do is bat away when low on health, and then I see the person I was teleporting away from start chasing me, and since I'm safer now there;s no reinforcements or other DGs around, I turn around and bite them for 900 damage and then run away agin! LMAO! That must be real annoying!

True to that. It's a very versatile move. I use it for cleaning creep, chasing, running, and approaching. If it weren't for the long recast time and high mana cost on the move, it'd be broken.

UB has low health but great damage. The bulk of his damage is related to Spit and Foul Grasp though. If his mana is drained, it's a lot harder to stun you, drain your health, and leave his DoT on you. Mana drain him then try to pumel him down before he can to you.

The Amulet of Purety is amazing against UB. Clears all negitive effects and gives +250 health. Ruins an UBs day.

Against Lord E mid to endgame I would suggest a minon spec with Oak, esspecially if Lord E is minion spec. Surge of Faith is devestating on Lord E mid to endgame as it negates all his minions. Use Penitence to limit mobility and supplement weapon damage with attackspeed gear.

Against Oak early game is easy as he is very weak untill Surge of Faith at lvl 5. Using movement speed against him is wise as it limits his ability to retreat and negates the benifits of Penitence. Once Oak reaches mid to endgame his becomes much more difficult to kill. Focus on using AOE to destoy his minions and force him to retreat. Also avoid fighting him when in a group of your own mobs as he will turn them against you with Surge of Faith all the while healing himself for the kills he gets. I would say Unclean Beast is good counter if you use passive aggressive tactics but Regulus is also a good choice if you spec into range.

i hope the many totaly wrong infos in the op get spread. this makes the life for me easier. espescially the erebus and sedna part made me loughing out loud. i thought about correcting it but it is so much wrong that i don't have the will to do so, too much work. so i better enjoy the flames i get for this post.

edit: at least this explains why there are so few good erebus out there and even less sednas.

This is like reading one of those survival guides from the fifties that suggest hiding under your desk to avoid nuclear warfare. Lord Erebus with health stack has no viable counter, and he is anything but squishy and slow.

Ooh ooh... I want to add one

Regulus

A speed Regulus has no counter... he can snipe you from long range, and scope, maim and mines prevent you from getting close to do any dammage to him.

Since you can't hit him, he can concentrate on attack items, making the imbalance worse....

*gets strangled*

Yes, but being invincible isn't very good in that regard, a speed regulus can't hold flags or fight 1v1.
