GAMERANGER - GET IT FOR DEMIGOD MULTIPLAYER!

There are several threads about GameRanger in these forums, but not nearly enough people are using it.  It's the best we have until Stardock & GPG are able to resolve the networking issues.

Frogboy even recommended GameRanger in his last Demigod Journals update.

There are tons of v.091 pirate games and only a handful of v.0105.  We need more legitimate players!  It isn't perfect, but it's a lot better than what we have going now.  I was able to play three - THREE 4v4 games earlier this week when there were enough people online!  It hasn't happened since, though, because there aren't enough legit players.

By the way - you won't be playing with pirates, so don't worry about that; the pirated versions DO NOT WORK with the legitimate versions.  You will only be able to play with others who bought the game.

Go to Gameranger.com to download a copy.

*Open port 16000 UDP for GameRanger in addition to the Demigod ports.

Have you checked out the actual multiplayer lately? Some people were saying that it has been slightly fixed. Gameranger also doesn't really work with Vista/7 unless you reinstall your whole OS, so that is a minus as well.

Not true for everybody with Vista...I have Vista and I didn't have to reinstall anything to use Gameranger.

its windows 7 that conflicts with it

and only when u play the game of demigod

if u gameranger another game, windows 7 works fine

I've had a LOT of success with custom games recently, although the odd drop out and quitter can be a pain. Even skirmish works (now and again).

I havent been succesful yet with Vista and Gameranger.  I typically get a black screen when the game is launched and it just hangs.  I can play in custom games / skirmish games fine now, though.

Hmm, well, I can't speak to having any problems with Vista.  My brother-in-law has Vista and I have XP, and we haven't had any issues.

I have tried out the multiplayer in Demigod since the new patches, and it still doesn't work as well as GameRanger - yet.

In any event, in spite of the marked improvement in the Impulse multiplayer set up, GameRanger still works better at the moment - at least for those of us who can get it to work.

I run Gameranger on Vista No problem.  I have a friend I liked ot play with and it's loads easier/faster to get into a game than "Waiting for other players to connect" in a custom game.

Team Skirmish, Faster Custom connects and then I'll stop using gameranger and play on the live servers.

funny last night i played 3 back to back skirmishes with little wait time.

Yes i did use GR when the game was at v93 .

To compare that and now the wait is the same.

For all of the unconverted, here's a screenshot of the 5v5 i just played courtesy of GameRanger.  Had a couple of players with bad Sim Speed, so we played on with AI for a while.

Oh, and I didn't spend 2 hours waiting for the game to fill and begin, either!

No, this isn't the norm.  No, you shouldn't expect this every time.  Yes, it's better than what we currently have.

I agree with DoKTa_T.

Not enough legit players are using this tool and way too many pirates aren't capable of reading chan descriptions :P.
About the concerns with Vista and Gameranger. I'm using Vista 64bit and have no problems with Gameranger and this game. Sometimes it crashen when the host is starting the game but thats like 1 out of 10 times.

And slightly off-topic: Sorry about the screenshoted Game dokta_t. Luckily the bug was gone after the next game start.

You first join a Game Ranger lobby for Demigod.  Once the host of the lobby starts the game, Game Ranger launches Demigod and puts everyone in the Demigod lobby.  I would assume it handles the networking as well, but I honestly don't know.  All I know is that it works much better than the alternative.

Every now and then a player or two is dropped when Game Ranger launches the in-game lobby, but the solution is simple - the host clicks abort, and everyone is returned to the GR room to try again.  It can sometimes take a few attempts, but it's still *much* quicker than waiting so long for people to connect to a game via the in-game browser.

"The version of your executable does not match the hosts" =/

Don't play with pirates, and you won't get that message.  Make sure you're playing games with the latest version.

Usually the legit games have the version number mentioned in the channel description.

Always at least one person I can't connect to when using game ranger. Opened all ports, turned of UPnP to no available. Unusable for me.

Custom games have been filling up in 5mins recently for me. I think they have pretty much fixed Impulse.
