My cpu is completely bottlenecked and is lowering my framerate to an abysmal 7 fps during normal gameplay. I have a radeon hd 4850 and a 3.0ghz pentium 4 (single core). Even on the lowest settings, my cpu (with hyperthreading) idles in the game at about 90-95%. My ram (2gb dual channel) idles at about 30%-50%, so i'm fairly sure that my ram/video card are not the problem here. Anyone know of any setting(s) i can change to try to get my cpu to use less %??? I'd like to play the game... but its really hard to play with 7fps... Btw, i do have a new motherboard and cpu in the mail coming to me, but in the meantime, i would like to know of any settings i can tweak with to play while i wait.. thank you.
Turn the sound fidelity to low, or use /nosound. Tell me if that improves anything.
tried it on sound fidelity low, no luck (7-8fps). Tried the /nosound on shortcut target, no luck (7-8fps). I am getting a 3.0ghz dual core... i guess i can wait another 3 days to play I like this game, had it for 2 weeks, but haven't been able to play it well Oh well lol.
I can't say the performance you're seeing is really a surprise, the minimum hardware requirement is a 2.4GHz single core and you're rocking 3.0GHz..
While you wait, double check your video card drivers and make sure they're up to date. What kind of PCI-E card do you have? Or are you using an older AGP?
its a radeon hd 4850... pci-e 2.0 x16, 256 bit interface, 512 mb ram, ddr3... anything else you need?
my cpu still has a few issues with this game somtimes, like it almost freezez or goes real slow after clicking custom or internet, and i have a intel duo core quad core 2.6ghz each processor, and i have 3gigs ddr3 ram , dual 512 mb nvidia 9600 sli - 500gig hardrive and 100mbit conection,
Odd, running a 2.8 single core and no issues unless I play quite a long time, besides all the other bugs, etc. Pretty much right at minimum.
Hades, it lags when you click Custom and Internet because the game is waiting for a response from the server, not because your computer is slow.
Oh, Iron, why are you running a 4850 with a P4 processor?
I'm upgrading my cpu... I've had this cpu for about 3 years now... Never had issues til this game though. I can wait til the new cpu comes before i play though.
Yeah my last rig had a P4 in it, great processor for its time.
Yeah, it really did serve its purpose. Its a dang good cpu... but its time to retire it. Time to move into the world of Dual Core...
dual-core? ROFL!
Show me one possible application of a quad core (or triple) thats worthwhile? Although a quad core is nice, its not needed. A dual core will serve its purpose for my gaming for the next 2 years probably. If not longer.
Demigod is based off of a modified version of the Supreme Commander engine if I am correct. This engine scales extraordinarily well to 4 cores. (Infact with alot of units, Supcom was basically unplayable without one.) In addition, since Quad cores are so cheap now (You can find them for under $100) you may as well get one, since the cost will be minimal, and is sure to make your system last alot longer. Most new games coming out support at least two cores, and OS background tasks are always there, so having the extra cores (even if the game doesn't use them) can help prevent stuttering in the event of Antivirus or OS updates, etc.
DougalJacobs is right; even though there may not be many games that make full use of a QC, they are so affordable that not getting one is plain old silly. sooner or later something is going to be able to make use of one.
and in this case, you can't make the argument that dual-cores overclock better; you're still in the realms of single-core computing.
