Cannot play on LAN

do not see the game in the lan games list

Hello. I bought Demigod, and i've heard i can play on LAN with 1 Cd-key.

So i installed game on both my PC's, connected by a router, and tried with my friend. Neither of us sees the game other one hosts. REfresh does not help, shutting down firewalls and antivirus does not help. There were no problems previously with games like Warcraft3 etc that we played over the LAN. What could be cause to this?

Of course i would not be showing here if i'm having a pirated version.

I have legal copy from 1C (company that resells those officially in  Russia)

Well listen here, young troll n3crosys.

Here is the photo http://www.ci.ru/archive/proof.jpg

This is me, at this moment in my apartment with the Demigod DVD i bought today.

As you can see:

1) The disc says "Licensed Copy (of a) Game" in russian in white letters over the red paint

2) The cash receipt confirms its bought, its title (Demigod) and its price 510 roubles (~17 dollars, thats what licensed games are sold for in russia)

3) The paper booklet has legal redistributor logo (1C)

4) Look here http://games.1c.ru/demigod/  to see its EXACT MATCH to the legal DVD on the legal distributor web site

Next time you try to troll, think ahead

And you call me a troll. At least I troll other people's threads, not my own. Try connecting your computers with a crossover cable, or get a cheap switch and try that.

If you cannot see games on one or the other machine on a LAN, the most likely cause is that you've missed a firewall somewhere (there was  thread just the other day where that was exactly the problem).

N3crosys, please do not accuse other users of being pirates. It helps no one.

It wasnt Demigod, and I forgot what game it was, but Windows Defender was keeping us from playing LAN on my system. I killed the service and it worked fine afterwards.

Dunno how useful that info is, but maybe it'll help :D

Windows Defender is also killed on my PC, the firewalls are disabled but i will doublecheck again today evening... But i am sure they are all off.

What is GameRanger? how does it help to play LAN games? Maybe thats the solution for me? Please share what you know

GameRanger basically acts as a middle-man for players connecting to each other to play games in a vLAN (virtual LAN) environment. Rather than directly connect p2p with whoever you're playing with, your connection is routed through a server owned by GameRanger. Because this is more server/client, your bandwidth does not get throttled by your ISP, and all the apparent limitations of p2p are negated.

In a nutshell:

-Close Demigod

-Download, install, and register yourself on GameRanger

-Find a game that advertises it is for legit users (this program is also used by pirates to play with one another)

-When the host launches the game, everyone's game will launch simaultaneously

-If you don't auto-join (mine never does) the game lobby, just navigate to your LAN menu and you will see the game hosted there

I have a similar situation to the OP. I was trying to play a LAN game over a wireless network and was having no luck. I tried simply running a cable between the PC's (through my router) and all was well. LAN games run great now.

If you're on a wireless network, try using a cable instead. I'm not sure why it worked for me, but it did.

I had a similar problem.  My solution was to ensure I had XP sp3 patch installed.  I also completely disabled my personal firewall and restarted.
