How much did it cost to make Demigod ?

How much did it cost to make Demigod ?

If not in budget numbers, then in comparison to games such as SupCom and DoW2.

Just wondering.

I remember reading somewhere someone from Stardock, maybe Brad, saying a single demigod costs 100k$ to make.

No, but there are some people around here that have the impression that the maps took a huge amount of time to make.

The maps are fairly simple and even if the modding community may not spawn maps as beautifull as these, some more interesting in terms of gameplay may appear.

Quoting Annekynn, reply 11I regret their choice of using 3d models as maps. Yes they look nice but having so few maps to play on is a pain.

I WANT A FREAKING MAP EDITOR JESUS, THIS GAME WOULD BLOOM IF PEOPLE COULD MAKE MAPS! MAKE THEM PLAYABLE IN CUSTOM GAMES AND KEEP THE SKRIMISH AND PATHEBLABLA TO OFFICIAL MAPS.

More maps would be nice but I don't think its what's holding the game back at this point.

Doubledigit, have you looked at the models they used for this game?  I can only surmise that there is some critical failure to communicate going on, because your statement is completely asinine otherwise.  Those maps are not simple; every feature had to be added by hand because they are one giant model.  A 3d model of immense size and complexity!

ron i think ther actually 2 3d models but u are right

i like exile the most with the foot spining in the background it is a nice touch for a space map

Exile is the most awesome idea with the snake grappling... just pure win.

To create a completely new map you will need one better two 3D artists, 2 texturers, a scripter, someone familiar with the map editor and someone with experience for effects.

If you settle for a map based on an existing map and reuse the background and a bunch of textures, it will be a lot easier. This could be done in a realistic timeframe with 3 or 4 dedicated modders.

Thanks Col.Jessep, That was helpful.

So, around 50k$ for the first map and somewhat less for subsequent maps.

Assuming the 100k per demigod is right, and taking into account Fhoeng's list, we get around 2M$ dev budget. Very rough estimate of course.

The maps aren't that expensive to make.

The Demigods, however, are quite expensive to make.

When the journals don't have to deal with connectivity and other things so much, I'll happily talk more about the game development process of Demigod and such.

How much children were born during development and how many relationships broke up?

If anybody want to do some numbercrunching:

From this article you can get basic numbers on a stardock game. Scale it up to the current development team of Demigod.
