Favor items balanced?

Hey all

Normally i dont like to complain about stuff but when there is something broken and it makes the game out of balance i feel i must say something as its ruines the game for everyone.

Since the favor points are broken as most of us know, you are lucky if you can get one of them. Im sorta new so im not 100% sure what they all do.

My problem is this:

1. You can cheat to get any amount of favor points and use this in rank matches

2. Are favor points balanced? I mean one who can buy any favor item vs a new player who cant buy any, does the new player still have an even chance?

I just came from a game like never before, 2-3hits and i were dead. I were Oak, my team mate a Regulus and the dark side had 2 Lord Erebus: I have meet alot of good players but nothing like this... this seems abit over the edge to me.

Maybe they were cheating in another fasion or am i missing something? i dunno, it took them less then 15min to kill my team mate and me about 20+ times in a row and destroying our Cidadel.

Sigh, just had alot of good fights today and then this stuff happens. I dont mind losing if its fair game :)

Cheers

If this isn't exaggerated, then it wasn't favor items. If you look at all of them, most are weaker than any artifact and in general they just provide some utility. The most expensive generic favor items give you some out of combat hp/mana recharge. There's some that allow you to teleport, some for healing minions/allies for a small amount.

It's really nothing that major that would create a huge discrepancy. One of the best assassin items is a 15% chance of a +30% attack speed for 10 seconds proc. Compare that to a permanent +20% (along with weapon damage and life steal) from the 8k Mageslayer which anyone can get.

Finished a game not too long ago where we won without favor items, while the enemy had them. Mostly comes down to skill and strategy.

don't forget that replays are half implemented, so if it is your last game, you can still find the replay and see if there is a problem.

I also doubt that favor items are imbalanced and a newbie doesn't stand a chance against an experienced player, in demigod, supcom, w3, or any other rts.

favor items make the differnce early game but mid to late they arent as big of a deal...

The only thing im not 100% sure about is the amount of hits before i died, and i saw my health just vanish into nothing in a short time. Maybe they were OP players? :P

So if i can get the replay to rewatch it in a none "what the frell is going on" mood :)

I still want to hope that one day people can just pick from all the items and be done with it.

I don't know what all is behind their matchmaking, but I just do not understand how giving what is probably an already advantaged player even more of an advantage (however small or great it may be) is a good thing at all.

If nothing else, it could look at stats and give less/more favor to spend based on your relative skill level to the other players.

If people want something to distinguish their leetness of spending hours playing (which I do) then give them aesthetic differences. Let them have some kinda glowy auras or something. Making it harder on newer weaker people (which I am not) just doesn't seem like it is really going to help the community much. It will just turn people off.

And @Multianna on Erebus, bite is way OP at level 1. If they both bit you simultaneously, you just lost 1200 HP and you have 500 left. Two attacks from each (probably less than 1.5 secs) and you are dead. This assumes you didn't buy some hp/armor, but even if you did, the stuff you can afford at level 1 would make little difference to this.

Well said jochance, i totally agree. Fighting on even terms no matter if your a new or old player.

You know, the best matchmaking system ive ever tried were the one supcom uses. You would not play against someone waay about your skill level.

Hmm, could be... One problem i have is when there are lots of mobs around, is that i can hardly see myself or the enemy DG's

Hmm I was actually wrong about bite. It is 1/2 as strong as I said.

yeah thats why i always seriously listen to people who say certain demigods are op...

Maybe you are just leet. I've played against 2x erebus a few times and it utterly blows.

I have posted my proposal for balancing favor items in order to restore fairness AND keep the favor items mechanics (face it, they are cool).

Here's the thread

The solution is simple: Disable favor items in skirmish, enable them in pantheon and tell people about it

I still dont see how that is going to make it more fair for all, unless you can only play against people with like eg. +-500 points like the way supcom does its ranking.

Well, if you play a skirmish you'll be able to gain favor without being in a disadvantage for not having any favor points.

And if you dare to play pantheon, you'll be able to use your hard earned favor points and put you on a more equal footing.

Ok, the others probably have even more favor points and items, but since they can only use one item per game, their advantage is less overwhelming than it is now.

the only favor item i ever used is +15% runspeed.
