An approach to further increase the uniqueness of generals and assasins

Hi folks!

Many people on the forum criticize the lacking uniqueness of generals.

To a certain degree I agree. Basically generals feel like assasins with 1-2 Minion skills + Idols.

That comes mostly from the fact that you can play all generals completly without minnions but you can put some easy 900 $ in priests which give neat healing while all assasins dont have this possibility.

I don't want to say that GPG & Stardock did a bad job with the generals. I would rather say they did a pretty good job, especially from the balacing side.

No demigod feels utterly useless and the possibility to play the generals with and without minnions shows how good the balacing is actually.

On a site note: My interpretation would be that it's very hard, if not impossible to put both concepts (general & assasin) in one demigod. So I would like to see some generals be only minnion + aura based (e.g. Oak) and some other made to full assasins (e.g. Erebus). OR that everything stays like it is and every side gets a commander (as third class) which is only centered arround larger crowds of minnions under his control + strong aura & support effects + would take % of damage of his minnion. This commander of light/darkness should be restricted to one side then imho :) That way the RTS players would get something "real" to play with and the friends of minnions but no uber-micro skills could play generals.

But now to my real concern:

Generals get 3 idol slots with no further justification (especially since you can play them without a single point in minions but enorm profit from healing priests or tower sniping gunners).

Assasins have nothing which makes them unique. Or in other terms: Assasins can't buy or do or get anything what generals couldn't (favor items excluded)

So I would like to see a further tab in the normal item shop:

- Weapons which have attack based effects on them (noticeable, but not too high) and no further stats.

- Only Assasins get the possibility to wear those weapons and get one additional item slot for those weapons (like the idol slots)

- Effects of those weapons could be lifeleach, %chance to splash damage, % chance to chainbolt, %chance of dmg dealed to minnions as well or anything like that

- to increase the similarity to idols which can be bought from startup due to the price: Make 4 grades of each weapon

 

That way would not only be the uniqueness of assasins & generals increased, but also the possibilitys for balacing of both "classes". This balacing would not be possible with favor items since assasin only favor items compete with common favor items (swift anklet!).

 

 

How do you think about this idea?

They just need to fix generals so they're actually RTS like.  The problem is getting minions to a nice balance where they aren't so vulnerable to AoE that they're worthless but they aren't just a mob of insta win.  They seem pretty close to where they need to be in terms of power per unit but the fact is you can't summon enough of them to make them useful.  Also, it's dumb that there's no penalty for losing them other than having to recast the spell.

Yeah I agree that there should be a penality for losing the minnions (at least xp for the killer). But beside that: Belancing is quite fine but to be honest: Why has erebus minions and torch bearer not?

Erbus plays totally like an assasin if you wish but torch bearer has an possible aura ealier than erbus.

And why have the generals 3 item/idol slots more than the assasins?

And how would you describe RTS like? Just like a walking base? Or at least depandable on minions?

I like the way most generals are and its RTSish enouh for me.

But for some ppl (i woudl guess you) it would be great if there would be a real rts Demigod.

Thats what I described as Commander of Light/Darkness.

RTS like as in having units that actually follow a counter system and you get a reasonable quantity of them.  Something comparable to the quantity you get form idol resell would be awesome.  Ideally they should actually function like the units you summoned in sacrifice, that would fit the design of the game the best.

Yeah that was what i thought of for a Commander of light: large packs of those idol style minnions.

But in larger numbers than normal generals have (24 total) and with the choice to use more priests and no minotaurs etc. at least with a little more choice. Like you controll your own lane.

Hey perhaps the possiblity to switch the runnning lane of the normal creeps by a certain degree :)
