What causes "Evade!"

I just played a game with some AIs and the enemy Sedna was impossible to kill (as usual), but I noticed a lot of my attacks were getting "Evade!"(d). 

What does this mean exactly?  Does the shot just not hit at all?  And what causes it?  The only item I could guess is responsible is the "Cloak of Elvenkind" which has "15% chance to dodge."  But it seemed to be happening  way more than 15%.  I would guess it was more like 50-60%.  

 

Furthermore if that's what causing the effect why would it say "Evade!" instead of "Dodge!"  And what's the difference between Evade and Dodge.

 

So anybody have any ideas on what the "Evade!" effect is and what causes it?

Several items that give you +chance to dodge . Im guessing the AI just stacks them hence becoming unkillable because the hits that do land get regenerated before the next hit gets through

what other items besides Cloak of Elvenkind give you +chance to dodge.  And if that's really it, why the hell does it say Evade! rather than Dodge!  ?

(okay, the all Father's Ring also has 10% to dodge, although I highly doubt she had one of those) 

 

Pendant of Grace and also Assasin's footguards.  So she could've gotten it up to 35%, 45 IF she had the ring which i doubt.  Okay that may be it.

 

But still.  Dodge?  Evade?  WTF?!

 

I wish there were replays and I could just look at what was going on.

im pretty sure dodge items when they get dodged say "dodge" i think ive seen it in game i have not seen evade?

As I recall, there's a general-specific favor item that also boosts evade by 10-15% or so.  It also gives minions an evade boost.

I don't know if the AI actually takes favor items but that's another possibility.  I could have sworn some of the boots had an evade chance as well.

I see evade all the time against level 15+ AIs, especially on hard mode. Its extremely annoying and overpowering when the AI becomes unkillable.

AI in hard mode tourney above a certain level starts evading roughly 50% of attacks. It's bulls***, but it's meant to make the game harder. Actually just makes hard mode broken.

Some abilities might give evade perhaps?  I've seen evad but I don't think I have ever seen dodge.  I'm pretty sure with dodge items it says evade...
