What is the point in a friend's list or a Demigod clan???

Impulse is pretty obviously trying to be the next steam.  It has some of the nice features of steam, including D2D, friend's list, freeware, and what have you.

However, what it doesn't have is some of the functionality.  In Steam, you could invite your friends to join a game, or intrude on a game already going on via your friends.

Impulse, and by extension, this game, has a friends list but no real point to it.  You cannot make a custom match and invite your friend with an easy to click invitation.

Also, Demigod has no clan support.  There is no lobby in multiplayer, and no channels to join (ala Warcraft), which is almost on the verge of sacralige in a game based off a mod that has so much community zeal to it.  The effect is the player feels very cut-off and individual when playing this game.

Although this is perfectly fine for the "casual" gamer, but this isn't a casual type of game.  The community SHOULD be interconnected, there should be "gangs" of players who fight each other in clan matches, and Demigod ought to support it.

Opinions? Agree/disagree?  Please state your reasons why you are one way or another! (even if you are honest with yourself and disagree because you have no real thought whatsoever but like to oppose ideas!)

Clan support is at the top of their list, and with it will come organized teams.

I don't know but maybe they're just setting these kind of things up for future use. Maybe they will start having uses for clans and your friends list, but this is just hypothetical hubub. You are very right about there being no point to the list and clans as is:)

everyone should agree, pretty sure most of this stuff is "coming soon"

Sounds like an unfinished product to me, then.
Most of the features for this type of game are "missing".  They blame Gamestop for their decrease in Metascore, but I think the unpolished state of this game afflicted their metascore more than anything else.

I wonder what the Stardock fanboys will say.  They seem to always have a religous zeal about them.

Rome may not have been built in a day,
but at least the salesmen for Rome didn't try and sell a goat ranch with the promises of "Stone walls, wars with Barbarians, and EVERYTHING!"

Which would be the metaphoric comparison here.

Awesome responses, Chaosnaska. This *is* an unfinished product, like you say. I wonder if they ran out of money during development?

Well, they better have. I'd be pretty pissed if I found out they just released it to be on time.

I know the friends list is worthless now anyways as it doesn't show what game people are in or anything. But it claims when you add a friend you have to wait for their confirmation, which is a lie. I mean I'll log in with complete randoms on my friends list. I mostly keep to myself or add actual friends IRL to my list so it's annoying seeing "randomdude1234123" on your friends list and trying to figure out who in the hell it is. Not as big of an issue now but later if they allow people to join games from your friends list and the like it'd be nice to know the people on my friends list are people I'd actually want to be there =P

The friends list and such are part of Impulse, not Demigod.

Whats that matter?

I mean impulse is Steam Jr. Only still in it's diapers. But steam still links to all the games and tells you your friend is playing whatever, Click here to join him. Regardless of who actually made the game it still tells you what they're doing....so I'm not quite seeing your point.

Yes, I agree that Impulse should have this.

Impulse should also:

1) Be a games system purely and get rid of the stupid utility programs which no one cares about and which gives the impression of an amateurish "shareware" operation.

2) Along these lines, add more functionality which solely aids gaming, such as friends, gaming groups, etc.

3) Streamline the interface. It seems like there's like 4 or 5 different lists of the exact same games: one for updates, one for launcing the game, etc. Why can't they all be a single list as in Steam?

4) Make the the interface better looking. Right now, it's a purple/rainbow nightmare, like it's intended for primary school children.

I agree with the OP that there is no reason why Demigod should provide, as it now does, missing and lackluster features that make Steam or other such services way better because they have them and they implemented them right.

Really, this is inexcusable, as the OP rightly points out.  It is common sense to have put these things in way before the game shipped.

Read up on what Stardock does.

Impulse =/= Demigod

I don't see what the issue is here.  Impulse was never supposed to be finished alongside Demigod.  They are two different projects with two different schedules.

On a side note however, most of the things in this thread are planned to be incorporated in the next phase of Impulse which should come out in the next few months iirc.

For those not aware, our apps division is a much larger portion of the company (and its income) than the games.

Typical.

This happened in my 3 month spurt trolling blizzard forums for World of Lolcrack.  The blizzard reps seemed to be more focused on making funnys than replying to the topics.  Although entertaining, it really showed their mentality when it comes to customers.  (Mind you, i wasn't the one making topics, but was looking and took note)

Although this stardock rep isn't making wisecracks, he is not answering the main inquiry.

Is this what I should expect?
Legit question, this is my first time with Stardock, and I don't know.

I'm looking forward to this Chaosnaska guy moving on to some other forums.

The main inquiry has already been answered. What's the point in answering it twice?

It matters because people in this thread are bringing up the GBOR. Demigod is complete, it is Impulse that is not complete.
