pcx editing

ok, i saved some images as pcx files using irfanview freeware. the only other editor i have is ms paint.

but the image shows up messed up. i think it is because it is saved as 24bpp instead of 8bpp. does anyone know how i can change this property?

i don't want to spend any money to do this, so any non freeware suggestions will be a no go.

I had a similar problem when I made my mods too. I dug around in the forum a bit and found a thread that RustyBlade started, that led me to a nice program that'll help you out. http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GM&id=41556

He has a link to where you can download the program, and describes it a bit. It'll let you convert that 24bpp PCX into an 8bpp really easily.

dang. i had replaced the "error, ship out of range" (the one that pops up when you buy a ship outside your max range) with a cool pic of the cryo sleep chambers from "aliens". but it is the same pic as the "do you wish to change governments?" message. meh, naming it like that and using it for two very different things. bad, stardock, bad. at least i got to change the upgrade starbase pic without incident. :)
