Greetings From Singapore

I've just purchased Demigod from the Demigod website, and I'm obviously new.

Any asian players out there please give me a shout. :)

I've tried to connect online a few times (both for online skirmish and pantheon), but was not successful - at best I get a "trying to connect" screen and end up being kicked off. Do I need to disable my firewall to play online ?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Nah. W40K DoW2 worked straight right out of the box for online in just one week or so worth of patching. I can say that DoW2's multiplayer works marvellous. For a start, it WORKS. Then, the delay in the game is as good as none. Even though they don't use P2P, I can say that even with 300+ ping, I could not feel any delay at all. Why can't Demigod just use a traditional client-server? They claim that 'the connection issues are now behind us', but in actual fact, MANY of players still experience issues with multiplayer. Just take a peek into the forum. It isn't hard to pick out 10 complain threads on connectivity. Yet the Stardock admins are not bothering about it. They only bother to answer threads that are HELL EASY to answer, that even I can do so. (eg. A thread went on the computer overheating. The admin just replied, get better cooling. WOW! Great admins! They only bother to answer the easy threads. Bleagh, utterly disappointed.)

Refund is not an option since I bought it via retail, and I don't plan to refund even if I could because Demigod is an awesome game. All thats holding it back is Stardock and their awesome P2P.

The difference between DoW2 and Demigod is the number of players connected to each other in a game. Demigod is frequently at least 2v2 or 3v3. I suspect DoW2 is frequently 1v1. Frogboy mentioned that opting for P2P was to meet the challenge of reducing response time between players.

They are still working to improve the connectivity. Regarding the apparently numerous unanswered threads on connectivity, I think the dev journals pretty much gives a rather good picture of the state of things. I think it's unrealistic to expect them to answer so many threads. I'm sure they do take note, and collectively answer them in their dev journals.

Also, regarding your complain with them only answering the "easy to answer" threads. How differently do you expect them to behave? I understand that you're immensely frustrated, so am I. Having so many SG players not be able to connect online leaves those that can with a less than optimal pool to play with. However, I can deeply appreciate the problems the devs are facing and no matter how much we complain, it still takes them time to do their job to patch up the game.

Sure, they did wrong, they've clearly learnt their lesson. Now we have to be realistic in expecting a fix. Software engineering simply cannot be rushed and they're already rushing their fixes. It's hard to ask of paying consumers, but right now, the best we can do is just hang on there and let them do their thing.

If Impulse simply cannot work, I would even opt to try Game Ranger with the guys here, or Hamachi. What do you guys think?

Most people on GR is playing on the .91 version i last checked. Didnt really have a chance to play on it.

Hamachi i read in the forums there are alot of tweaks to be done then can play.

I have given some consideration to Game Ranger, but apparently few legit Demigod purchasers actually use Game Ranger. If that's true, that could be a problem.

This post caught my eye. I'll let you guess who made the post :P It's quite amazing to see such candour. But the acid test is whether (and when) Demigod works the way its supposed to.

"The game deserves a bad rep IMO. My frustration is too great for words with some of the stuff I've seen.

That's one of the reasons I took people off the Elemental project and put them onto this is to help address problems / fix issues on this game. In my opinion, too much "stuff" was licensed and not vetted.

If the Stardock/GPG teams can't address these things soon, the game deserves to go down in flames.

I know it's a lot lot LOT better now. But still, I just played a pantheon game tonight and first, it took like 3 or 4 minutes to find a game, then one of the players got dropped so I ended up in a 2 on 1 match. It's just ridiculously frustrating.

I recorded a video of it and sent it to the teams at GPG and Stardock along with my logs so that they can see exactly what I saw. It's gonna get addressed but I just can't believe after 6 weeks we still have this."

Kurooon, from what I understand (and it may be wrong), one cannot play on Game Ranger with another player if he/she uses a different version of Demigod.

Legit Demigod players (like us) would have upated versions. Pirated Demigod players (who apparently form the majority of Game Ranger Demigod players) would be playing using an older version.

Yup so they will always be one step slower.

Alternatively i will grab a copy of the not so legal copy and play on GR.

Some where under the terms and con i think there is one that says we can make one copy for keeping...

sg players add me on impluse

usually online from 3pm-7pm and from 11pm-2am....

can't find a sg player in the noon to hv a game .......

Actually, what I was proposing is to simply organise games with each other through game ranger if Impulse really can't work. We can simply post here an arranged time slot to meet up online and just play.

CitizenKane, no prizes for guessing who posted that. I can certainly understand his frustration too. To me, the game (when we can get a game going) is just so fun it almost feels like the frustration was worth it. I can only imagine being able to get that level of enjoyment in the future much more easily, when it all works out.

In the meantime stick with the masses and go play .A

XD

Beta version of 6.60 has already leaked on the net and the changes are COOL! You are assured of a 5v5 match everytime with no lag.. and in Garena, there aint as many rage quitters as you find in Demigod.

Yeah.. I was unable to play with GR players previously. They gave me an error that the .exe was different. Definitely different versions of Demigod.

The DoW2 multiplayer games I play are ALL 3v3. No less. They are extremely stable games and if anyone drops, AI just takes over and we continue straight on.

Well, I do understand the Demigod team is working hard on this one, but Singapore has a fair share of DotA players. If Stardock can solve the issues with Singnet (99% impossible), I'm sure DotA players will move over willingly. Demigod is an awesome game, but without online gameplay, its literally garbage.

Since waiting IS my only option, I'll just wait this out. Even if money was wasted, at least I learnt to be wary of P2P games. Afterall, all my other P2P applications work very well. uTorrent, Limewire. Never gave me problems. Never understood why Demigod would.

Update for those who are using 2wire 2700 HGV 2 ... that piece of crap.

I bought a 49 dollars Belkin router which i cannot even find the model name.. By bridging the 2wire modem and let the belkin router handles the routing. And using the proxy thingy i am able to connect to the aussies which i am not able to do so last time.

Pardon me for double posting.

Isn't the 2Wire a router itself? How can you connect a router to a router? Possible? And how do you do the bridging?

Depending on the situation, I MIGHT buy the router to fix Demigod's issues. But if it isn't a confirm fix, then I'm not going to spend even MORE money on something that isn't working.

Whats more of a crime is that my 2Wire 2701HGV-E works perfectly fine for EVERYTHING ELSE.

If anyone is interested, there are GPG forums for Demigod - http://forums.gaspowered.com/viewforum.php?f=38

Some of Frogboy's posts (aka Draginol) on that forum are quite interesting.

P/S I haven't been online lately because (apart from connection issues), I've been very busy at work. Hope the rest of you guys are having fun. :)

Has the latest update made any improvements to those with Singnet?

No idea :P I haven't tried today's patch yet.

In any case, a discussion of Demigod on a Singapore gaming board can be found (particularly for Singnet users) - http://forums.gameaxis.com/showthread.php?t=1515553

It does look like the competition is going to heat up for Demigod - with a new Dota patch released and a new MMO Dota like game scheduled to be released this year.

ADDED : I did manage to log into a panthenon game last night (before the latest patch) - but I ended up on the losing end of a 1 vs 2 (I did not have an ally demigod - not even an AI). It was not much fun, and I quit the game, after seeking the blessings of the opposite side :P

Do you mean League of Legends? I'm not sure if I know of any MMO DotA. What's the name of this game you've mentioned. Also, MMO DotA is kind of like an oxymoron. The whole idea of DotA is it's non-persistence, requiring players to rebuild their characters according to the current game.

EDIT:

just to add on, i am now able to play with players around the globe after applying the lastest Demigod patch.. i dun think its Singnet's fault, i blame the poor initial implementation of this p2p..

please note that players all around the world have problems connecting to one another during initial luanch and after first few patches released, it is not an isolated Singnet problem.. i'm glad they sort it out now, but one must wonder if the damage is already done..

I just saw this post from the link you've given. Please give it a try Kane. Perhaps it would work now.

If anyone wants it, please feel free to use it (first come first served) - Coupon Code : KNFQ-YSNA-HRQQ

Very very surprisingly, the 'miracle' patch FINALLY CAME. Yes yes, the latest patch solved all my problems. Now the only problem left is to get more friends to play. My ping to US players always causes me to get kicked. Oh well. And also, in-game, the game is QUITE choppy for me, although it IS definitely awesome to be able to play FINALLY.

Someone notice Seeker2012 that the game FINALLY works. THE MIRACLE PATCH. ALL HAIL THE MIRACLE PATCH!

How do I add players on impulse? Im new to this. Halfway through a game today, I saw your name popping up on the side of my screen, and was wondering what that was.

It would be good if there is some way to know if SG players are online (got to say I dont see any SG games in the Custom Games page). For now, I can only play with AUS/NZ players. Cant play with EUR/US players as the game would be too laggy and not enjoyable at all.

Hi SyDaemon - yes I was referring to League of Legends. (I stand corrected - it's a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA)) - Im no sure about the mechanics of whether that is p2p or server hosted or both though.

I'm not online much these days - apart from work, I don't seem to see many Singapore hosted games (and Panthenon just ended). I'll see how things pan out - but I'm already keeping an eye on ... Hello Kitty Online ! :P

i always add SG players as buddies ingame but wont reply

i can play with us/nz/aus but ping is >300, with SG players i get 150-180

shift tab and add me as friend

i also have 20% pm me if you guys want for your friends

I used to add every SG player I find to my friends list but stopped after I noticed the apparent uselessness of in-game private messaging.

Here's what I propose:

All Singaporean players, when you log in, please visit the Chat window and type:

/channel singapore

This will take you to #singapore.

If the channel hasn't already been created, the first attempt to go to #singapore will create it.

From there, if all Singaporean players enter #singapore, we would at least be able to chat with all online Singaporean players at once. We would be able to ask each other to join our SG games.

The private channel handling is still a little flaky, so you might appear alone in the channel or the channel might appear empty. Just have faith and remain there anyway.
