Making Demigod Work

Frogboy Please Read!

A few friends and I tried to play Demigod tonight after a week plus long wait after failing a time before. We gave it 6 tries today and we failed 6 times today. I know this isn't as much your fault as it is GPG's P2P system but this is getting a bit dissapointing today. I want to see the competitiveness of the game take off and I really want to get into this game but I cannot get into a custom game or a skirmish game as I get stuck with bots. Not to mention the Pantheon does not start up until May 8th.

I'm not going to make the angry "I paid $40/Give me a refund!" because I don't want one. I bought the game legally at retail because this company is my favorite studio. I don't want to use Gameranger or Hamachi, I just want the legal first party software to work.

I'm trying to convince my friends to get this game and its hard to even with the couple 50% coupons my friend and I will be getting. I want to eventually play a ton when you implement a group automatch system like Dawn of War II's or Red Alert 3's. I just cannot make a good argument for them when the multiplayer does not work well at all. I know you made the Demigod breakthru post but tonight's epic failure really gives me second thoughts.

I just want some personal reassurance. Is this going to work?

Wait until the big patch comes out.  Then you will know and so will Stardock.  Then they will send out the 50% off coupons.

There is no way for any of us to know how well it will work, though it works fine for me and my friends.  So wait for the patch, open your ports, and then try it.

I just feel like that is a repeated pattern.

I tried over 20 custom games tonight zero worked correctly and I never saw the start of a single match. Skirmish worked fine and when pantheon is working I don't have trouble getting into a game. Is skirmish only 2v2? I'd like to play with more players but pantheon is down :(

I'd kinda like to keep this post alive so we can really just get some reassurance. I managed to get a few games hosted by me hosting tonight.

pre-patches i never had a problem playing ever since they released the "fix" it got worse and worse with every patch, plus every time you alt-tab u get a fatal error, the menus are still slow and hang up, there is so much to be fixed its going to be long after this next patch that the game is actually a full working and fun to play game. how ever im here with everyone else just waiting it out hoping it gets better from here

I've had no issues the last few nights except for 2 poor chaps on a LAN trying to join my game kept '0 pinging' on each other. This must have somethign to do with ports... aside from that my biggest problem is rude people kicking me cuz I'm aussie and have 300 ping. I can't wait for the aussie retail release.

I have yet to have any serious issues and I've played 10 or so games so far. Also it is NOT THE P2P that is breaking all of this. It may not be helping the situation but if you would keep track of Frogboy, you would know that its a problem with data not getting to the impulse servers from the NAT thingys which as I understand it was all created by Stardock.

GREAT NEWS!! The patch is coming out looks like in just a few hours and it will fix nearly all the problems.

I agree with this.  During Launch week I was able to play about 20 games although they were not fun at all because of the terrible lag.  Now all I can do is complain on the forums because out of the 10 games I have tried to play, none have worked.  Nat errors, entering game against all AI, entering the game with uneven teams, other crashes just make me want to toss this out the window.  I will probably come back in a week and complain some more and see if anything is different but my month of caring is winding down fast.  I wish you the best Stardock.  Godspeed.

Can you please explain how the patch is going to "fix nearly all of the problems?"  I am willing to bet that this can't possibly be true in a million years.

I think Frogboy said the main fix is coming out on Thursday. :dur:
