Port Forward with multiple players

Port Forward with multiple players

Simple question that may show my lack of networking skills. With the firewall port forward how would you properly apply that when there are multiple computers wanting to play the game in the same location? Would you split the range up and forward a part of it to each IP?

Once again, showing my noobness, an idea. Why not have stardock initialize all the connections on a standard port? Once the connection has been initialized a command can then be sent to each users machine telling them which port to try and direct connect on. In this manner the users computer tries to connect which in turn opens the port for communication. For most users this allows for little to no configuration on their firewalls.

If there is error in my logic please help me understand where.

thanks in advance.

You'd need to set each machine to a different port range using ImpulseReactorOptions in the demigod bin folder, and forward those ports you specified to each machine accordingly. Each will have its own full range of ports.

Since the latest patch, ImpulseReactorOptions does not do aynthing anymore, at least it seems so.

While I tend to believe kryo on this one, can someone confirm that IRO.exe is the way to go for this scenario? Looking at what Frogboy stated in the 'A New Day' thread he says to forward all 100 ports to one IP.

I assume that is for simplicities sake in order to not complicate things for those less knowlegable of routing/routers/etc.

I was having issues a few days ago getting myself and my wife hooked up and the advice Spooky gave me got me all setup: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/350439

If its not working with the latest patch might as well try that out.

Sorry, I was wrong, ImpulseReactorOptions still work perfectly fine :).

So I will now play my idiot card. To make sure I understood correctly, run C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Demigod\bin\ImpulseReactorOptions.exe

Set a range of 20+ ports per user that do not overlap.

And the in the firewall forward each set of ports to the appropriate IP

sound about right?

Good guide for how to do this for noobs is http://www.portforward.com/

it has an almost idiot proof way of doing it, but as of this post demigod hasnt been added. If it still isnt there later look for a link that says "Default Guide" in orange in about the middle of the page.
