Alternative map/gametypes

I think it would be somewhat interesting to have something similar to Warcraft 3's "hero siege" maptype.

 

Basically, hordes and hordes of enemies swarming at you, and you and other players try to fend them off, eventually going after some sort of boss, etc. while getting rewarded via gold, buying items, etc. It could be done, and it would be a LOT of fun. Think of it as a coop mode.

 

Also, there needs to be some asymmetry in the maps that give one team an advantage in one respect, such as easier access to certain flags, but giving the other side a LOT more defenses making it MUCH more difficult to penetrate.

 

Not the most original ideas, but I would like to see them if only for the sake of diversity. That said, so far my vote on most intriguing map design is the one with the man grabbing the snake...that one made my jaw drop due to overwhelming awesomeness for lack of better words.

One last thought...

As you hold onto a flag towers and fortresses begin building up. The longer they are held, the more they are built up, but only to maybe 4 towers and 1-2 fortresses. This would hinder the ability to steal flags back and forth all the time, and require more team effort when going after flags, or ease the ability in defending them all the time.

the devs have worked on that^^. It wasn't finished so it didn't do it to the release version but i imagine it will be added later.

By the way they were also working on a capture the flag mode

A mode I would love to see implemented, that I thought about recently and made a post about was a reverse Domination mode... which I tentatively call "Dreadful Domination".... in which the goal is to capture flags like regular Domination except.... instead of the flags bestowing bonuses to you and your teamates, it does the opposite... giving you debuffs, longer cooldowns, slower speeds, lower experience rate, etc...

It would make for an immensely competive and brutal gameplay experience in which the winning team is always at the disadvantage... teamwork and strategy is a must... and when you win that victory, it would be because you and your teammates earned it. A long, hard, epic, and absolutely brutal version of Domination.

I've already stated that if the developers don't implement the mode, I'm going to figure out how to mod it into the game, or atleast find someone else to do it. The potential competitve community that could developed around this mode would be intense. I have also thought that, if I were to mod this mode into Demigod, that I would package Ventrilo (VoiP) into the mod package files, so that everyone can use VoiP to talk with eachother and coordinate strategy as the game should be played.

This gameis ment to be competive afterall, so why not add game modes like this?

Oops, got off topic. I agree with adding an enhanced Coop mode of sorts, however, I believe that the symmentry of the levels is crucial to Demigods gameplay style, which is Arena-style battles rather than on a "random" landscape that is not symymetrical.

More modes are always nice for sure, and Demigod definitely has the potential for some interesting and unqiue game play modes as Warcraft 3 did/does.

Edit: CoOp would definitely work well with Demigod. How about an Epilogue-style CoOp mode, where you play as either the Forces of Light or Darkness.... and the goal is to eradicate the last remaining Light or Dark forces from the Earth after winning the pantheon. Make it more Warcraft 3 style.... the focus would be on killing creep hordes with your teammates and fighting bosses as you said, and add a story a long with it too. Here in a mode like this asymetrical maps would work better... pantheon modes should stay with only arena style maps though.

Protocept00, I know you didn't intentially hijack my thread to post your idea, and I do like your idea. In fact, I read the thread you made before I made this one, as you got me thinking about different gamemodes :)  

 

I don't take offense easily, and there really should be some sort of "master gameplay list" that has a title and short description of the gamemode/gameplay, then a link to that gametype's thread so there isn't a lot of clutter. Does that make sense to you? I don't have the time to compile a "master list" myself and link to all the different gametypes that people have suggested. The same idea should be done with the demigods that people have suggested, where there is the name, a short description of the demigod, only 2-3 sentences, then a link to the thread for that demigod. That would keep everything very organized and on topic.

FROGBOY, if you haven't thought of this particular idea already, it couldn't hurt to consider the "master list" idea containing

1. Dreadful Domination

            a)Capturing flags hinders winning team instead of inducing benefits. Requires incredible team effort to push into

               enemy base and win.

1. Alpha and Omega

         a. Infused with the power to both create life(summons) by creating fissures in the landscape where they crawl out from, or destroy them by "self destructing/going nova/supernova" laying waste to the battlefield. You can get your minions to cluster together or spread apart, but if they are together, you can cause a supernova in that part of the battlefield, but will harm allies as well as enemies, and requires a LOT of mana. The more minions you have, the more deadly the explosion. I just made up this idea right now...I like astronomy :)

What do you think of both the "master list" idea as well as my new demigod I made up to aid in the example? haha
