New Game Feature: Buildable Encyclopedia / Character Calculator

It would be an excellent idea for stardock to build into the game an encyclopedia which, whenever a new skill, item, or character is used (for the first time) an entry is unlocked.  Each entry would have a little bit of lore along with the numeric information about each item and skill.  In this way, players would be encouraged to explore new skills and items, there could be new information gathering achievements available (complete encyclopedia for example), and, most importantly, there would be a way for players of the game to easily have access to information about all of the myriad skills, items, and powers without starting up a match just to read descriptions while you demigod scratches its butt.  Though complex, I think it would not be the hardest thing in the world to implement.  Things like this are what give a game breadth and longevity.

Working alongside this encyclopedia (or separately for that matter) Stardock should also implement a character calculator.  The player would be able to choose a DG, lvl, skills, and items and then, basically, test out that character (against either a dummy or a similarly devised test DG) while the calculator provides recorded information (avg dmg per hit given, avg dmg per hit received, dmg per second with attacks + skill x,y,z, etc.)  This could be a standalone function within the game or, with the implementation of the encyclopedia, a player could only test DGs, skills, and items which have had their entries unlocked.  Again, the aim is to streamline the process of creating builds and strategies since it is unwieldy and just flat out a pain to start a match simply to try and clock numbers.

Oh no! This reminds me of something...

Pokedex what is this!

Pokedex "This is Torchbearer. He is a strong castermon. His skills are...

Fireball lvl 1: In young years Torchbearer learned to channel the arcane forces as a fireball ...."

No, seriously now:

I have to agree that there should be easier ways to see the skills etc. but there are really some more important issues at the moment.

But even if I wouldn't suggest such an way of implementation you talk about.

How would it be to be able to read the skill trees exactly like ingame but in the character selection screens (as an extra button like lore).

That would be easy to implement and fulfil your tasks as well.

The calculator would be a nice thing too but there are many concerns as well:

- It is very likely that a fanpage will programm this

- from a skill side ther eisnt much data to present and items data could change quite frequently

and most importantly

- you can set the game settings to start level 20 and max money and test everything you want ingame under "real conditions" vs Ai.

I don't want to offend you or be rude but I think there is just little need for both things at the moment and there are much more important things now to do for GPG.

I would love to see this implemented inside the game at some point soon.

Externally I know that there is a site coming up called www.demigoddb.com or at least i think thats the url. It will have a skill and item calculator which i'm already using to check things out with.

The point is not what has highest priority.  If that were true, every single entry in this section should be switched to say "fix it so that I don't have to wait for an hour just to play a 30 minute game."  The point is to add new ideas that would be a nice addition at SOME POINT.

Make what jokes you will, but the pokedex concept (now that I have realized that's what it is) would work out nicely.

Furthermore, even if some of these things are fan implemented now or will be in the future, wouldn't it be great to have easy access to them in-game.  Realistically there isn't much to do in this game but strategize and then implement that strategy.  Right now, I have to play half the game (strategize) outside of the game.  Seems a little off.  Also, if it were built into the game, no one would have to update the encyclopedia.  Just tie the encyclopedia's information directly into the in-game numbers.

As I said before "testing under real conditions" isn't preferable.  It's unwieldy and counterintuitive.  Plus, there is no way to automatically record the numeric outcome or just show the probabillity.  The point of the calculator would be a way to test everything without any of the in-game constraints (like having your test dummy die or, conversely, having your test dummy wail on you with a flaming sword).

I understand your points: the game has serious issues to contend with at the moment, others could compile this information on their own, these are only niceities rather than a change to the core system.

Okay well listen: THAT IS THE POINT.  I am not talking about core changes, new gameplay features, or fixes.  I am talking about something that would make the experience over all more inviting and user friendly.  I get you.  I agree.  Do other stuff first.  Add more DGs.  All of that.  Just, it would be nice to include some features like this to the game.

edit: not really offended, but a little peaved that someone would try to shut down an idea and admit the usefulness of such a feature in the same post.
