Demigod Idea: The Shattered One

Demigod Description:
Assassin. The Shattered One is all that remain of a Demigod who has transcended the physical plane and has become a multi-dimensional being. They appear as a moving, swirling swarm of spiritual energy and mass.

Demigod Law:
The most beautiful of all the All-Father's offspring, Shard The Unlasting was both feared and respected for his incredible strength and endurance on the battlefield, capable of lasting for days at a time in combat without reprieve. He weilded the artifact known as Eclipse, a Hammer so powerful it was said to alter the very rotations of the world when it's stroke fell. Despite his great prowess in battle, Shard was also a devoted servant of the All-Father and spent many years in worship to his Immortal father and studying his teachings.

During a time of great turmoil, heathen soldiers struck at the great Temple to the All-Father in a bid to grant themselves victory over their perceived oppresors, and Shard came to it's aid. Fighting on the steps of the great Temple and in his Father's name, Shard destroyed the great Heathen army single handedly. However, the heathen army was vast beyond numbers and, despite victory, Shard was left physically scared and disabled. Barely able to lift his great weapon, he retreated into solitude, ashamed he was able fight in the name of his Father no longer.

He turned from comabt to study and traveled across the known world and beyond, learning as much of the Immortal Gods and their power as could be done. He forsook sleep and rest, venturing into the depths of insanity is his bid to redeem his once proud self.

Shard returned to the Temple of the All-Father an old man many decades later bareing scrolls of unknown origin. Using the powers contained within Eclipse, he cast a power incantation upon himself, ascending the mortal plane and becoming pure spiritual energy so that he may once again serve his Immortal Forbear.

Demigod Appearence:
Instead of a physical form, The Shattered One moves as a cloud-like form of energy and floating mass reminicent of a Tornado. For his Auto-Attack, he would momentairly engulfing his target, with small lighting bolts visible within, striking the target.

Demigod Play Style:
The Shattered One plays as an indirect damage dealer and support figure. Their abilities focus on either enhancing their allies or damaging their opponents. The Shattred One features average movement and attack speed and his primary focus is on his 'Graces', AoE abilities.

Demigod Abilities:

Grace of Eclipse
15 Second cooldown.
300/400/500/600/700 Mana.
Focusing his spiritual energy into a single moment, a bright flash is unleashed dazing all near by enemies.
Lowers enemy movement and attack speed by 15/20/25% for 5/10/15 seconds with the forth and fifth point also stunning enemies for 2/3 seconds respectively.

Grace of the All-Father
30 Second cooldown.
Transforms The Shattered One into a moving cloud of energy, dealing damage to all enemies and structures in his wake.
Moveable AoE with range of 15 yards that drains 80/160/240/320 health per second from The Shattered One and deals the same in damage per second to all enemies within the cloud. Reduces The Shattered Ones movement speed to 25% of current movement speed. While in this form, The Shattered One is immune to stuns and damage and in unable to use other abilities.

Strength of Spirit
Passive Aura
Transfers damage done to Mana. 5/10/15/20% of Damage done by The Shattered One is transfered to The Shattered Ones Mana pool. This effect also applies to nearby Allies.

Grace of the Warrior
Activated Aura
5 second cooldown between on/off
Activates an Attack/Movement Speed Increase Aura that effects nearby allies. 5/10/15% increase attack/movement speed within 10/15/20 yards while draining 90/100/110 mana per second.

Grace of The Everlasting
120 Second Cooldown
Leaves the mortal plane and recoups from battle. Activates Mana/Health Regeneration increase by 50/75/100/125/150%. This effect takes 5 seconds to activate from the time of clicking the ability. If struck while this ability is activated, The Shattered One is ripped back into the world, stunning them for 5 seconds and activating all cooldowns. While in this mode, the Shattered One can not use any items and abilities. Moving or reaching maximum health and mana cancels the effect.

Undying Valor
Passive
Enemies struck by The Shattered One are marked on another plane of being. Any damage they do transfers 2/4/6/8/10% of their damage to the The Shattered One's Health Pool for 30 seconds.

Thoughts:
I imagine The Shattered One as being a DPS dealer with limited surviveability, i.e. lower HP, however with the ability to quickly recover from battle. The main benefit of The Shattred One is the decreased reliance on consumeables and returns to the Health Crystal. The two play styles I imagine for The Shattered One are:
The Shattered One dealing significant damage for very short periods of time and requiring to 'pit stop' out of battle using Grace of The Everlasting frequently
or
The Shattered One hanging back in the battle and supporting his allies by providing Mana recovery and increased movement and attack speeds.

Obviously I haven't balanced this terribly well, and possibly even used an incorrect number of skill points, but hopefully my general idea is converyed. Post thoughts or comments below!

They're probably sitting at their computer, right now, reading my idea thinking
"Whoa, wait a sec.. we don't have to model a whole new character for this one - throw together a basic particle system and we're done. Approved"

Some interesting ideas. However I think in terms of artistic design,'incorporeal energy beings' like this and the one other I've read on this board fall a bit flat. One of the great things about the characters is their personality and appearance. This Shattered One and the Divine Pillar sounds a bit... boring to me.

I would try to anthropomophize him a bit. How about a humanout figure, formed of multihued glass. The glass that makes up his skin is cracked and brittle, with shards crumbling away from him at all times. within the cracks, you can see into his incadescent core. When he uses some of those abilities, THEN he becomes a mas of violent energy and flying shards.

Thats just my take.

Only one ability seems iffy to me and that's Grace of the everlasting. I would never use it in the midst of a battle, because a 5 second stun is a death sentance in any case. The only time it'd be any use is if you can get away from your enemies far enough that youd be safe when you reappeared. This would probably only happen around your towers, which means you are close to your crystal anyway. Therefore, I only see this ability being used on very largs maps like Mandala or Brothers.

This does have a lot of potential with some polishing.

Thats actually paints a very cool image, and I agree with your comment about it being a little boring - I was really just aiming for something unique and very different from what GPG have already put into the game. The idea of the 'Glass Man' certainally fits with my general concept, and I think it's a lot better than my original idea. Thanks!

The idea behind Everlasting was that you'd move into battle and pop Grace of the All-Father, devistating the enemy ranks, and pull out of battle quickly - possibly throwing up a Grace of Eclipse. The idea being your fellow Demigods could cover you, so to speak, while you retreated to 're-charge'. I tried to come up with a concept that functioned around team work while still allowing a player to feel 'powerful' and thought the idea of a powerful but draining attack fit nicely into that. It wasn't intended to be used like a potion - which is why I equated to a 'pit stop'. Thats also why I added a '5 second start delay' so that it had to be used out of combat to provide some balance to the fact that you could fully regenerate in a matter of seconds. Used in conjuction with Heart of Life, this could provide players with multiple 'recharges' limiting the stop-and-start play somewhat. Good point though, I may revise.

Well in that case, we could have more All-Father bestiality, alla the Unclean Beast :-P
