Installing Demigod on multiple PC's without downloading multiple times

I bought and downloaded demigod two days ago via the website. Installed on my PC and am able to play it fine (minus the connection issues but thats another story :P) I want to install the game on two other computers in my house but im not sure how to go about it. I tried to copy the Program files folder to the other pc's. It asks for the cd key and the game runs when i run the exe. but when i click to play multiplayer the game tells me i have to download an update, it then goes back to Impulse and starts downloading the same 2gb file of the entire game. i would really like to avoid downloading this rather large file more than once so if it can be avoided that would be great, if anyone knows a way to install without download please post here :D

Hey i have done this.

Got my mates hooked so they buying it :)

have u tried Archiving it?

As in right click go archive. then copy past to the other computers and use impulse to un archive it?

Failing that. I used the incrimental downloads and the installer. so i copied it first before installing.

i just tried archiving, an error comes up on the second computer saying its an unidentified product : /

Copy the folder. Go to impulse, go to the orb, select detect application, select demigod from the dropdown box and select the directory you copied the game to. Verify installation, then update it. If archiving does not work, that is pretty much your only option.

I havnt had that error before ayfkay.

But i didnt get that far because I downloaded and archived, when i went to restore archive on my own computer it came up with the cannot restore archive error.. Try what Netriak has suggested,

I dont no why it would load but not allow u to play multiplayer..

You may need to put the game on ur computer. Then install Impulse after it? some weird thing like that may help.

Best of luck.

I just downloaded impulse on each computer on my LAN. Then went and logged in one at a time. My impulse was like "hey you have some games you own but arent installed!" So I went to the my games section and clicked install. I did this for each computer and it worked witout issue. No funny archiving errors or anything. Did you try to install impulse on each before installing? Mine didnt have a problem installing from impulse.

Make sure u dont have impulse logged in as you on any other computers but the one your trying to restore or install the game on.

Yeah if you do download it again.

download from here

http://anywhere.impulsedriven.com/

because u can manually install it. then run impulse online :)

so it will solve your issue  but u have to download it again.

its the weirdest thing. i just played an hour long game with me on my pc  and my brother on the other and it worked like a charm. just when he plays online. iturned demigod and impulse off completely thinking it could be conflicting account/cd key, still no good

The version isn't in the copied files but in the registry. Using the archive feature will also save the registry information.

BTW, the generated archive may be OS dependant.

really wish the devs would allow mulitpule accounts on same IP address. after all we DID buy the game. Why not put prices up by 5% to cover the ability to use it on 2 or more PCS

Are you asking for one serial id being usable for 2 simultaneous online games? BTW, the serial id isn't really linked with your IP but more with your e-mail.

And you can already install the game on multiple PCs. But there can be only one online with Stardock servers.

While we allow users to freely play LAN games with one copy, you will each need unique accounts with their own copies registered in order to play online simultaneously.

As to your initial issue, Impulse needs the registry entries that go with the game in order to recognize it as installed. If you're not familiar with the registry, the simplest solution is to just archive it on one machine, copy the archive over, and restore it on the other, rather than copying the files only.

Thanks kryo, for clearing that up. though technically atleast one of us should be allowed to login at a time. right?. The problem is he cant log in at all, and when he tries it forces him to download the entire game again.

Has his PC the correct registries entries ? If you have only copied the games files, that is the problem.

not sure what you mean by that but we've tried multiple ways

simply copying the folder from program files: didnt work

archiving from my pc. copy archive to his pc then unarchive using impulse: didnt work

copying folder, then using impulse we clicked 'detect game' or something, that said it should have found the folder and made it look like it was installed: didnt work

archiving, unarchiving AND doing the 'detect game' thing: didnt work

all this was done with me completely logged out of impulse and not playing the game at all. and all times he was logged in with my account meaning the cd key was registered to him at the time.

quite bizzare :s

I am wondering: how are you sure Impulse want to download the whole game and not just updating it? In the update tab, the size of the download should be displayed in the bottom right of Impulse when selecting a game to be updated.

yeah i know where it shows the size, and its 1.8gb

Ooops. Should be bottom left on the update tab. It should display the size of the whole game and the size of the update.

Could you provide a screenshot to double check that you don't look at the wrong place?
