In-game Mic

I don't know if this idea has been brought up before but it'd be nice to have an in-game mic or be able to use one. It'd be much more helpful when coordinating attacks and citadel upgrades.

Just a thought.

The next phase of Impulse will have built in voice comms, and I assume it'll be done in the Reactor so it'd work in Demigod without needing the client. But that part is just the assumption.

wahoo, that would be awesome! At first the absence of voice comms didn't bothered me, supcom was fine without, if you needed to be competitive, you could always use teamspeak, ventrilo,...

But you don't have a lot of time in demigod, even a lot less that the few seconds you were having to type important messages in supcom, so voice comms are really needed in the game. I play a lot with Sedna, and not being able to tell in the middle of a battle that i have no mana left for exemple is really problematic and frustrating. That feature should have been in the game since day 0.

this is the worst idea ever

in game built in voice com totally sux

and over all they are dependant on actually having the game active

2134215151 years ago they invented teamspeak and it is still the best program ever, no crash no problem, very light why you want to change it?

download ts or vent or whatever

Yeah TS or Vent (Much better imo) would be fine if I had anyone to play with. But being that this game throws you in with random people (Pantheon) I'd like to be able to talk to my teammate.

maybe that vent, ts or whatever other soft are a dozen times better that an in game voice chat (even if i am not so sure about that) but when you are pulled in a random team; it is very usefull to be able to chat. Look at TF2, it would be a real pain to play without it and the 2 games are cooperative multiplayer games where you need to coordinate your efforts fast with strangers = you need an in game voice chat system.

I agree, I would love a voice chat - Not all software related voice chats are bad - A while ago everquest 2 implemented voice chat. The quality for most people is comparable to TS & vent, as long as there are a few settings to tweak.

I'm a big fan of this.

Yep that works - and then you find yourself in a game where you are stacked against the vent/ts team. Alternatively you fancy a game but once you have played a voice comms game it's quite hard returning to the silence and lack of team play (when your friends arn't around)

So +1 here for voice comms - I use Vent but only when my buddies are around. Any voice comms must have the ability to squelch a player - in addition I would suggest the voice comms only needs to be for each team. Although the chat could be in impulse I would like the game to support it so you don't have to buddy up etc to get the chat.

Ventrilo and Teamspeak are third party apps which requires your to install, setup and log onto various servers. Then it requires all of the people you play with to also be aware of these apps and have them installed and logged on and so on...

It's utterly unrealistic to expect everyone to use competing third party applications for what should be an in-game feature, especially in a game with built in community support.

Agreed in game comms is the way to go - lots of games out there that have done this feature well.

If Counter Strike: Source did not have VoIP, it would be a fragment of the game it is today.  Random people in a game need to communicate and typing is not good since you are using the keyboard the entire time.  Plus, it might actually make some people communicate during games instead of silently getting owned.

Edit: If you don't like it, don't use it.

I think built in is always the way to go.

I first started unsing voip in BF2142.  Why the heck you would want to mess with vent or TS i dont know.

First you need a 3rd part app.  Then you need to fin the "room" and if you want it to be public, then anyone can join it, including the other team.  yes a password would solve this but it complicated things for the casual player.

If its built in, then you use say button 1 for push to talk to your team and button 2 to push to talk to global. OR just not have a global otion.  This way you can EASILY talk to your team, no need for 3rd part app, no finding the server you need etc...

DO IT DO IT DO IT! Sick of wasting time typing to people. It's much nicer to actually hear the guys/gals you're playing with too. Makes for a more social game.

Won't work unless it will allow the players to chat in impulse without being friends. Otherwise you join a Pantheon/Skirmish or custom have a random pug join and you can't chat to him because he is not in your friends list.

As with pretty much all MP aspects World in Conflict did this well

* showed who was chatting

* only allowed voice chat within the team

* had a mute button for each player so if a player is spamming or being unpleasant you mute him/her without effecting the team

i'm just saying it would be a lot easier for Stardock to work on a mic system in Impuse, rather than GPG write thousands and thousands of line of code just to add in a new VoiP system within Demigods.  also, since its P2P i think it wouldn't be that hard for Impuse to pick up on who you are connected to and only allow chat to them.

just thinking realisticly here

Then Impulse would need a "team list" in addition to the "friend list".

The team list would be temporarily populated by the people on your team in the game you're currently playing.

And this should be populated while in the lobby, but not enabled since people can still switch teams, but when the game starts loading, it SHOULD be enabled to people can talk strategies while waiting for the game to start!

And as have been mentioned, next to each name should be a mute button, and whenever someone speaks, a little transparent window with his name in should show up somewhere.
