Rage-quitting under fire. What about Lag-quitting?

When the lag is unbearable, why do those who leave first have to take a loss?

Per this thread, disconnects will be punished with an automatic loss.  A legitimate question was asked in this thread that I don't think will get the attention it deserves:

What about lag-quits?  I have a few dc's on my record because when a skirmish/custom game starts up and the lag is unbearable, I lead the way to the next game.  As a grad student I just don't have time to deal with games running at quarter speed or frustrating start-stop slideshows.

I really think we need an option to abandon the game.  Just... all players vote that the game is unplayable and call the game off.  No win streaks are broken, no battles of will over who can tough-out what should be a 20 minute match for an hour because of the crawling sim speed, nothing.  Just tear the match down and give auto-match another shot to redeem itself..

Watcha say?

i agree - i think if a player leaves in under 60 seconds it should not count towards a loss. I usually can decide in that time if the connections are good enough. Allows you to assess if people dropped on the loading screen ect.

Another issues i had the last few games was this:

1. Perfect game (this was a 5v5) and then someone had to leave. No lag issues or sim speed ect. Game was indeed perfect (including player skill ect).

Then a player had to leave and Boom entire game dropped. I was wondering with this new connection system where you can connect through other players, if that player leaves and you connected through them, then you will drop too.

Will that then count against you as a disconnect.

It may take more time for it to become obvious than 60 seconds. Someone who's ping starts to spike and never comes down part way through the game would be a good example of this.

This.

Also, if you quit because of lag, you deserve the same punishment.  Lag is often a temporary(someone on somoene's network may be doing a download or something to that effect) thing and you're ruining it for your teammates with your impatience.

Every person in the game gets the bad experience if someone lags. The lagger might have infinite patience for second-long stops every few seconds, but most people don't. Punishing people for quitting because of the lag of other people is not a good idea.

Also, what about desyncs? I had a game today, where I dominated the enemy mid game with 5 smites in succsession after which 2 of the enemies rage-quitted. My allies quit the game after that too and then the game desynced. I wanted to finish the game with the last remaining enemy, but couldn't. And now it counts as a loss.

Apparently, lagquitters receive the exact opposite treatment.

At least that's what happened in this game I played earlier today:

http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/game/425831/player/29546/

(Preatoriani lagged abit early on, then the total timer hit 30 midgame and he was out. Naturally, the team opposing team ended up winning, at least in-game.)

Don't worry, that game you left probably didn't count as a loss.

It might have even counted as a win!

I think its funny how many times rage quit is said on a daily basis with this game... Find a new word.

Meh, I like anger quit better. But nice attempt.

Anyways, an "abandon the game" button would certainly be useful, although you would probably have a hard time getting everyone to agree, so it should probably be a majority vote. Half the players on one side and half on the other.

One thing we should also consider guys:

What about when the auto-matcher, in its infinite wisdom, decides to put you in 2 on 1 and similar horribly matched situations?  I for one insta-quit when facing two demigods.  Seriously, wtf?

Gah, I hate when that happens and I do the same thing. More than half of my losses are due to unfair match-ups. Perhaps we could report unfair matches so they don't get added to our games list or stats. Although that would probably result in thousands of reports a day, with people screaming about how "THE UB IS OP!!!" and all that.

In Dota we call them "leavers"

Don't know why people invented a new term.

To me a rage quitter isn't just someone who leaves... it's someone who cries bloody murder about how unfair something was or how OP some class is THEN leaves mid game.

If you leave right after dying, saying shit or not, its a rage quit.

This is hardly the norm. IMO the ability to leave a lagtastic game within 60 seconds far outweighs the problem of rage quitters leaving within that same minute.

Absolutely, I'd love tp see a way to abort a game in progress without penalty or rewards to anyone. Left 4 Dead had an excellent little group democracy system, where any player could call a vote to restart the game, return to the lobby, kick a player, etc.

Agree.

I don't wanna sit through a really laggy game, or slow games cus of someone having negative simspeed.

We shouldn't be punished for that imo.

But this whole subject is really quite complex, giving the amount of reasons, one can choose to quit. Sometimes it can simply be your connection that fails in the middle of a game.
