To all the lovely West Coast American gentlemen

Thanks for not kicking me from your games, I've really enjoyed playing with you over the past few days post-connection patch. I connect with 250-300 ping from Australia, and while there are always a few that expect it to lag, it never seems to.

If those who have had the lagfree experience of playing with me could please spread the word that Aus players with good net connections can play with you gents without lag issues, that would be much appreciated. However you should also note that poor connections are common in Australia, so you certainly have reasonable grounds to kick us upon connection to your lobbies.

For those West Coast US people joining my games, you are always welcome.

Thank you for your time.

Man, first directly insulting us and now patronizing us.  WTF is wrong with you people?

One was insulting the ignorant Americans, this one is praising the gentlemen Americans.  Two very different groups ;-)

What part is patronising? A signinficant number of US players kick people from Australia and I'm thanking the ones that don't, and encouraging the ones that do to reconsider.

I don't kick people unless they have an extreme amount of ping, because even with people with 300 ping, I noticed 0 lag whatsoever. So we're talking 400-500 before I even consider it. People will bitch and leave my lobby because of it, but those that stay noticethre is zero lag. I like to think I'm slowly winning ocnverts to the "don't be anal about ping" side of the fence.

What if I reduce the price significantly and throw in a free hat? Purty please?

What about us Canadians? Are we simply rubbish to you folks? Hrmph!

Most of the lag I experience in games is from either low sim speed or from someone with ping that says 80-150 in the lobby but in game it bounce between 100 and 1400...

Had many lag-free games with folks with steady ping around 250-350.

most from AUS. played with a couple of guys from Singapore last night too.

Hey.

Id like to add to this.

THanks all to EU and US and Canada servers for letting me play :). As ping was generall 2-300. most games it didnt lag but when it did it was very minimal.

SO thanks from an aussie.

TO those that see my ping and kick :(.... hope u kick all and get no games! lol

I don't think he was pastronizing anyone, I think we was thanking the American players - who, at this point, make up a majority of the community - who understood that anything less than 350 is entirely playable. For many of 'us people' it's a rare thing indeed not to be kicked from a US game.

Funny, I joined an Australian game and got told, "cant people read" and was promptly kicked. Ping around 300ms, no warnings that it was AU only. There are rude people everywhere, just as their are nice people everywhere.

Dude, we don't have anything against you.  We just don't like lag...

Thats very sexist woppin, you assume all the people who didn't kick you were male, tsk tsk. I would like to thank all the gentle-people who didn't kick me from U.S. games.

Please excuse their ignorance.

I don't either, I wouldn't join overseas games if I lagged them. The point I and others are trying to make is that a ping of 300ms won't lag your game. I don't have a magical solution whereby you can figure out if a player in your lobby will lag things up or not. The status quo means that the only means by which a host can determine whether a player is suitable for the game or not is their ping, which discounts people playing the game on old hardware, and people playing the game on a connection which has low bandwidth. The issue is the correlation between having 250-300 ping and having either of the two problems I just mentioned is tenuous at best, but as I said earlier, I really don't hold it against you for kicking people with 300ms.

Ban lists have been bandied around quite a bit in the past few days, hopefully once the game is suffering from less conneciton problems we will be able to sort out who can actually play with who using such a thing. What's certain is that there ARE people connecting with higher pings that lag things up, and those of us who connect with higher pings but don't lag things up REALLY don't want to get put in that basket as we frequently are now.

Nice change of pace post woppin. I have played 20-30 games with a friend in Australia since release with no issues or lag. I'm in Missouri U.S. btw. We always connect at a solid 302-307 ping. Even when his net was throttled to 512k(dues to the ISP monthly limits in Aus.) we still had the exact same ping and played fine. Goes to show you don't even have to have great speed as long as your connection is stable.

Unfortunately it is hard to tell within the first few seconds of connecting if a high ping will be stable throughout the game or not and some just don't want to take that chance.

Thank you, but I must state

NO KIWIS ALLOWED

that means you bru, and I know I have a sweet-as but flattery gets you nowhere!

woppin, if you want to get some games started let me know. I don't care where you are from or what your pings are, we can atleast try starting a match so see how things go. What a lot of people don't understand is that Ping is not the be all end all indicator of who is connecting properly or not, and I understand that. I want Aussie players and European players to enjoy the game just as well American players, and ignorance on either side is not the way to go.

USA east here.

For me it depends.  If people are popping into my game left and right, as host I feel it's my responsibility to help ensure the game is as playable and fun as possible.  So I'll ask a few of the high pingers to leave.

If things are going slow, sure we'll take a high pinger and see how it goes.  If it goes poorly because of a player (usually the high pinger) I take note of the player and am hesitant to allow him in my custom games again.
