Items - Recipes / Sets

Ideas for the future of DemiGod

I think most people playing this game are at least familiar with DOTA. Also please forgive my ignorance if there is already a posting on this idea.

For me, one of the coolest concepts DOTA had going for it was the large number of recipes and the unique items that players could create with them.  This would allow for a deeply customizable character that was constantly changing and upgrading throughout the game.

The next thing could be sets; if you get certain items they give you bonuses for being of the same set (such as dragon boots, dragon shield, etc...).

I have a feeling I’m not the only one that feels this is a good idea, so is there any idea out there if this is something Gas power is planning on including, or if they might give players the ability to do so?

This was one of my least favorite parts of All Stars and one of the main reasons I only ever played DotA 3.7. It just makes the game less accessible and diverts your attention from what is fun about the game, the combat and interaction with other people.

Disagree with recipes, but I could go for making items upgradable by applying a upgrade cost to a specific item.

this is going be kind of a bump, but watever...

anyway this topic came up a few back with a brilliant idea from Innovic a few weeks back.  basic idea is that instead of recipes we have "upgrades" where item build into better items.  best to just have a look.  enjoy

NO COMBINE RECIPES - This instead! (PICTURES OMG) - Also, reduce clutter!

(ps... not my idea, i'm just the messanger)

I really like that idea 'TheScottishAlien', thanks for adding it here.

I'm still a fan of recipes as well however, and let me explain why a little bit. I have read on several forums that people don't like this way of upgrading items because it is too complicated.  There are multiple ways taht the developers can counter this, with immediate information available to the player when highlighting over an item they have already purchased.  They can provide you with the ultimate items this can be transformed into and the items/recipes needed to do so (can be seen by dragging cursor over), or something more clever than what I just came up with.

I always found that it was a lot of fun to be in the scrums of a match with an item and an ultimate goal, and have to make a difficult decision.  Will you wait for the full upgrade that you are looking for, or do you need to get another item with immediate benefits now?

This also takes away the limited nature of some of the current items, which are no good in late game, for a small fee they may be trasformed into something useful, and this is an easy way for the developers to make all items useful without spamming the game with them.  This issue (if I can call it that) cacn also be taken care of through the idea presented above, which I would also LOVE to see implemented.

And yet all of the reasons you stated apply to what we have now for the most part.

Difficult decision? "Well, I need more damage. Do I get Mageslayer now or save for Ashkandor?"

You can sell your early items for a benefit later on. My argument against recipes isn't that it will be too hard to figure out, although I think it's a good one, it's that it adds complexity for little to no benefit.

It seems like you can get all the benefit of items and progression without upgrades, while upgrades only adds complexity.

The main problem is lack of time; when I go to shop, I don't have time to look what's there and to choose - I have to finish selling/buying as soon as possible, because every second counts.

I am afraid this might require some more time; just as I love innociv's idea, it would take some time as well.

If that can be addressed, it would be a good addition, in one way or another.

I totally agree in this dude...

you dont have to spent all time shopping cause it makes the game slower

shopping means no fighting means longer and boring games... cuase you have to read most of the recipes before knowing what to buy.

so keep the recipes for DOTA  and Hands of Sorrow Knight. but itll make this game have a broken leg cause it wont be so much focused fighting anymore.
