Demigod launches and then crashes

First I couldn't get it to launch and then I ended up renaming the dgdata.zip file to dgdataBAK.zip just in case I needed it and then I ran it and I got this:

I renamed it back to dgdata.zip and i'm back to the same problem of it not even opening in the first place.

Specs:

Windows Vista 64-bit Ultimate

3.0GHz AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core

8GB OCZ Reaper HPC Edition DDR2 RAM

ATI Radeon HD4870X2 2GB GDDR5

1.5TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.1 HDD

650W nSpire Cool n Quiet edition PSU (Has been working fine for everything, although i do need to get a bigger one)

Everything is up to date to my knowledge, I updated everything a week or two ago, and all my other games are functioning properly.  Just this game seems to not want to boot.

Update: I extracted dgdata.zip into the bindata folder and i no longer get that error when dgdata.zip is named dgdataBAK.zip but it still will not open. It just pulls up the vista's poor excuse of a loading symbol (circle thingy) for half a second and then disappears, and no file is run and the process DEMIGOD.exe is ended.

Bump, I'm desperate for a solution.

Here is my DxDiag:

So I finally decide to PAY for this game (I usually don't pay for games that I could easily download for free), and it's the only game that doesn't freakin work, and JUST SO HAPPENS that there is no solution to make it work. If I don't get a response I think I'll just return the game for a full refund and go ahead and let all my friends know that if they have top of the line systems like mine then don't buy this game because it probably won't work.

Currently here is a breakdown of what's happening.

I start up my computer.

I can play any other game possible, even Crysis.

I go to start Demigod and the loading circle pops up and goes away.

Nothing happens.

Task manager opens and I check in the processes to see that demigod.exe is NOT running.

I leave it open while I run demigod and demigod pops up on there for half a second and then disappears.

Just help me already. I don't like paying $40 for a game that doesn't work and has no support.

Please contact [email protected], they should be able to help.

Alright I guess I'll wait the 2 days that it takes for them to respond then.

From my experience, the error:

failed to load "/lua/debug/EngineStats.lua" module

means that a required file is missing. If it's that file (which happens to be the first file that's loaded, I believe), then it can't find your dgdata.zip file. Which would make sense considering you renamed it.

Moving it to inside bindata means it's able to find it, since it actually searches in a few folders to find any given asset. Specifically:

info: DISK: AddSearchPath: 'd:\program files (x86)\stardock games\demigod\movies', mounted as '/movies/'
info: DISK: AddSearchPath: 'd:\program files (x86)\stardock games\demigod\sounds', mounted as '/sounds/'
info: DISK: AddSearchPath: 'd:\program files (x86)\stardock games\demigod\loc', mounted as '/loc/'
info: DISK: AddSearchPath: 'd:\program files (x86)\stardock games\demigod\bindata', mounted as '/'

These are the search paths automatically used in Demigod. As long as a given asset is inside one of these folders, the game should work. (It's a little more complicated than that, I believe; the mount locations describe "relative" paths that assets would be placed in. Bindata likely works since it's relative location is "/" or root).

Anyway, if you've already gotten this all fixed, then just ignore this. Otherwise, my only question would be why you renamed your dgdata.zip in order to fix your problem.
