Desync - a new plague upon the land

So not only do you have to deal with leavers on occasion.  Sure, they partially ruined the game, but someone on the other team agreed to drop too.  Or something.

Anyways, it doesn't matter because now everyone is desynced.  Whatever that means.  Doesn't seem to actually affect the gameplay but the game feels compelled to pop a nice fat error window in front of you obscuring your vision, eating your commands, and making playing impossible until you click "Ok"

So it pops up again 2 seconds later.  Again, and again, and again.  Your face hits your keyboard in disgust.  Who programmed in this gem?

And now it's a race for the exits.  If you don't quit before everyone else does (but also telling everyone you're about to quit because of desync - everyone else is showing similar disgust in chat) you get to wait 30 sec x the number of players faster than you.

It really makes you want to play another game.  Which I am about to.  (At least Devil Summoner 2 won't crash on me tonight.)

Yes I just experienced this today! Holy shit bbq is it annoying trying to play and then every 2 seconds you get a pop up! In game spyware ;[.

Yes Stardock could find a new method of monetization if they placed ads within the desync error windows.

If you do, you owe me a cut for the idea!

Is Devil Summoner 2 good? cause i'm a SMT fan.

I've seen this too.

A desync is when everyone's connection becomes sorta fractured and you are all receiving different information at different times. It ends up where within a few minutes everyone within the game is playing a completely different game if they persist.

Once you get a desync the game is over. Its best to just leave and restart instead of waste time with clicking the desync button.

However, there are times where it fixes itself, or can. So wait a few pop ups before leaving.

Ok lol made me laugh but yes Desync ruins games and also when someone quits or rage q's it could take a bunch of players with him as well. Pretty well ruins the games. Hopefully they are working on fixing this soon.

I've never seen it permanently fix itself in game.  Maybe it can fix itself after more people leave, but that's far too high a price to pay.

The main thing that gets me about this is that the desync doesn't seem to DO anything.  As long as you click the box over and over and over the game is playing just fine.  Or is it?

Desync is when different people have different versions of what is actually happening.

Naturally over time these differences will tend to become greater and greater.

Game needs to just abort when you get a desync. Playing on shuldnt be an option.

I've only gotten 1 desync in all my games.

I got 2 last night.  Both occurred immediately after someone rage-quit.

Desync has been happening about 50% of the time when people quit, ever since the connection patch, from what I've seen.

nerf desync.

I got the same problem.

Today i played 3 games with some friends. Since we where winning some emokid started to quit the game. After 1 or 2 quited i would get desync's with my friends.

Resulting in the fact that my stats in Custom Games are set on LOST instead of winning. Only the host got a Win on his name.

Any place they can iether correct that or remove the game score?

If a game is desynchronized, there is no point in playing that game anymore.

That's a different issue - you can't trust the recordkeeping at all.

Here's a game that perfectly illustrates it:

This doesn't have to do with desync though, it just happens.

A lot.

yeah but dc'ing means you'll usually take a loss thanks to the new system... so it becomes a battle of will to see if you can get your opponent to dc first... if you're the last to dc you get the win right?

The desync code has to be in there to prevent hacking.  The problem is it seems to be bugged.  Hope they fix it but if it was in supcom and still hasn't been addressed I think we're just going to have to live with it :/.

We should not have to live with it.  Ever.

Unprovoked Desyncs are very rare in SupCom. If at all, they sometimes happen when players are timing out. Just like in Demigod.

I have actually seen less actual de-syncs lately, but instead see a lot of server splits.

I agree, but if the bug was from the supcom engine and still hasn't been fixed chances are it won't be :/.

So crippling bugs are ok when they've been around a while....?  I wish I could get my manager to understand things like this!
