Babylon 5 Mod?

Anyone working on a Babylon 5 Mod? It seems a natural fit for a mod for the game with the 5 main races being the Earth Alliance, Centauri, Narn, Minbari, and perhaps the Drazi or the League of Non Aligned worlds as a whole maybe. Ancient precursor artifacts can either be Vorlon or Shadow oriented as well.

Oh come on are you telling me no one is a Bab 5 fan that plays Galactic Civ? It is screaming for a mod. Just watch the Season two Boxed Set and watch the Centauri using Mass Drivers on Narn and tell me if that isn't easily applicable to the game.

I suggest that a pool of efforts go into this endeavour. Anyone interested or care to add their voice to my own on this matter?

Oh this just hit me in hindsight. Wouldn't the Psi Corps make a great faction on it's own? Maybe Psi ability should be able to be researched by every race except the Narn (as per the show). Anyways just thinking out loud again.

I would see it as:

Earth Alliance = Terrian (Human Player of course)
Mimbari = Torians
Narn = Arceans
Centauri = Alterians
Vorlon = Yor
Shadows = Drengin

The League of Non-Aligned worlds are already in the game as the Independent Leauge (I-League).

Precursor events would be from the "First Ones" (or whatever they were called).

Oh, I'd definitely be happy to use one, but I have neither the time nor technical ability to make one. Bonscott, the Vorlons and Centauri should surely be switched (Vorlons being the archtypal self-righteous do-gooders and all). Of course, using either the Vorlons or Shadows as major races would be a little weird, unless they were automatically set to "incredible" :D

Well th ething is that the Vorlons and Shadows ARE first ones they just stayed behind. They would be best kept as random events and discovering their technology would be like a precursor technology discovery. They are giants in the playground if they were to be realistically pitted against the younger races.

personally I would break down the races like this:

1: Earth Alliance (Human Player) picture of President Sheridan, or President Clark, or as captain Sheridan during the days of civil war even.

2: Minbari (use picture of Delenn or Dukat or Naroon)

3: Centauri (Londo of course)

4: Narn (G;Kar of course)

and for slots 5 and 6

possible candidates; Drazi, Brikiri, Pok'mara (not sure if that is how it is spelled), the Draak, or maybe even the Dilgar.

Anyways these are just ideas.

well Lord KiRon a Sar Wars Mod was made so I can only hope that it may inspire others to jump into a new "Babylon Project" of sorts for this game. The Mod community wil probably be the only ones to get it done but wouldn't it be neat if J. Strazynski and StarDock made a deal to make an official Babylon 5 expansion pack?!?!? Just imagine if they could get small clips of expressions of the actors and or voice clips as well. This is kind of like the way Star wars was made an RTS with the Age of Kings RTS system, except that in this case it is not historical combat being made for space it is space and space and could be pretty seamless. I also thought that Homeworld 2 would be a great place to try to make a Babylon 5 ship mod if it turns out to be moddable. But anyways Galactic Civilizations would be a perfect place for such a mod.

Homeworld has some great mods, including an interesting Star Wars vs. Star Trek one, and I'm pretty sure someone already did Babylon 5 ships. The Star Wars ships in that mod are far better than anything Lucas Arts has released, albeit they haven't made a pc space flight sim in a while. The game just has a great engine for that type of thing. If only we could marry a pared down homeworld engine with Gciv.

btw, B5 is also my favorite TV space genre. But instead of waiting for the "mod community" to release something, let me encourage you guys to give it a go. There's no better way to learn things like this than to pursue a little pet mod project. Othen then event writing, which, let's be honest, is not very labor-intensive (though perhaps testing intesive), there doesn't seem to be much modding activity around here. These types of communities are usually made up by who really love a genre or idea enough to throw some time at it, um, kinda like you guys ;)

I would think that Star Furies be too small to show up. I suppose that a cluster of white dots would represent a squadron of Star Furies but snce they can't jump from system to system without a carrier ship of some sort they are pointless to display on the galaxy map. Rather I think that they would be an interceptor type armament on a capital ship.

I am looking for a "White Stars" :) , or at least "Hyperion" class ships :)

Its not to scale dude, a small star fighter or somethign can be a star fury. You know a squad of star furries will take down a capital ship probably :/

It would also be neat to be able to convert the graphice for human specialized diplomatic space stations into Babylon Stations.

I just thought that the addition of stategic jump gates like in B5 might be intersting in a way point type of way.

Yes , the StarDock is illogical a bit , well with HyperDrive invention they say nobody need a stargate, but does this make them completely usless ? I doubt.

I mentioned in another thread that one of the reasons I like SEIV is because of its BAB5 mod...the B5 races are incorporated into the existing game so it has plenty of variety...not a perfect translation but it's fun..hope it makes its way to GALCIV someday....

I was considering doing a B5 mod, depending on how the star wars mod went, but you know what? I never really liked the space combat aspects of B5. It always felt tacked on and underdeveloped to me. In the big picture, of course it didn't matter. The character and impressive story arc were more than enough to make the show great.

It's kinda like Stargate SG-1. I love the show, but the portion of episodes with space combat aren't all that interesting. Then again, making Ga'oul leaders to negotiate with could be fun. One thing I always wanted to do was make a SG-1 Neverwinter Nights mod. You could take your team through the gate which would be linked to other user mods.

I sure would love to see all of these done. No one seems to be talking about Deep Space Nine? I loved that show and the array of races and the story would fit into galciv quite nicely.

The more conversion mods the better! Looking forward to Madmaz star mod, and hopefully many others of you making conversions. :) I too love Stargate, hardly miss a show. Not sure it would fit into the NWN theme but maybe it would. You are right very dull with space combat and ship variety.

To me...DS9 became good when they noticed the Bab5 story arc and started their own with the Dominion Wars...prior to that it was typical Star Trek fare..
