Erebus, the Stalemate Master

Reason why Mist and Bat Swarm mechanics need to change.

This isn't a typical nerf post because I'm not going to gripe about how a Demigod is overall overpowered, but instead how the mechanics of a few moves can ruin a match.  Earlier this afternoon I got into a 2v2 Fortress match on Crucible, via Pantheon mode.  It was a rather amusing face off because it was two Sedna versus two Erebus.  We couldn't kill Erebus--but that's not what I'm complaining about at all (because he couldn't kill us either).  Hell, at one point we had like a 10 minute duke out in the center with nobody returning for mana.

We were more or less dominating this map, despite only having a single kill at that point (and them none on us), we were just wiser about allocating our resources.  The final fortress was being pursued, and we were at the final choke point with four towers in front of it, giants and everything.  The problem is, a giant never touched those towers, despite the fact that our opposition didn't even have priests.

How?  Easy.  One Erebus could Bat Swarm across the gap from their base, use Mist and all momentum would come to a halt.  Once nearly out of mana, he would Bat Swarm back across the gap and recover his mana (with his ally filling in when needed).  This combination of abilities brought us to a stalemate for an hour.  It's ridiculous that just by misting he can kill the creeps and spawn nightwalkers to occupy the attention of and kill giants.

Because the crystal was a 6 meter walk and a Bat Swarm away from this spot, there was no way to progress.  Some 45 minutes later they finally got giants of their own from their piddly revenue, and were able to push back, something which we allowed to happen.  With the two Erebus' getting cocky enough to try and take down our entire lane of towers to get to our fortress, the other Sedna and I could just ignore their remaining tower line to just target the fortress for a win--a damage race they could never win.

If they had never bothered getting giants themselves, or had just remained at that choke point this match would have never ended.  Something here needs to change, whether it be the Crucible map itself, Bat Swarm's ability to hop such wide gaps, or giving Mist a duration so it can't hold an entire army up indefinitely.

Before you ask why we couldn't just try taking out the towers ourselves, this was an impossible feat.  Two fully upgraded arrow and two normal towers can not be broken with an Erebus biting and stunning you (the other was still busy holding the entire army back with mist).  I had even tried getting a Cloak of Flames and that first AoE artifact ring to try and get some burst to take down the arrow towers, but they would regen too quickly and send us packing too quickly with their high damage.

Just my two cents on an aggravating match up on a broken map.

crucible sucks, i agree.

that has almost nothing to do with Erebus though.

but crucible is a truly horrible map.

There's a good reason why most only play Cataract, a good majority of the maps are unbalanced, with Crucible and Prison being the worst imo.  (Prison doesn't have any bad map designs that can be taken advantage of, but it's just too open, and it's all about who has the best roaming gank squad)

Ragequitting should be allowed in Crucible.  A crucible match is settled in 10 minutes:  first team to knock down the other team's two initial towers wins the game.

Before those towers drop, Crucible is interesting.  After those towers drop, it's just an excercise in good sportsmanship because everyone knows who is going to win.

Not really. It's the last choke; anybody can hold it indefinitely. Late bloomers like Regulus can indefinitely hold the choke with a single Erebus and level up.

Here's the scenario: One team is dominating. It's the final tower block. They foolishly purchased giants, which are free EXP to those towers.

Suddenly, after a 30 minute stalemate, Regulus warps over, captures their artifact tower, and comes in angel winged with an ashkandor, cloak of fire, lightning orb, and an all fathers wing, and basically machine guns everything down with 3k crits.

The map is just too easy to defend!

And in Prison, it's just blah because whichever team sticks together and has the best initial DPS wins. There is no way to avoid being ganked, especially if they have a rook and can deny you your retreat. Sedna+rook is almost impossible to beat on that map (especially in my latest match, which I had to quit on (despite being the lynchpin of everybody elses connection) because it was lost in the first 5 minutes (it didn't help that the regulus I was counting on for support charged into a sedna and rook tower combination and just autoattacked.... 4 times.)

your problems started when you decided to play against erebus on crucible

To all of you acting like he actually had a choice, read his post, it was a PANTHEON match. You cannot choose anything besides your demigod in that.

ya, bollocks on Pantheon choosing some of the mode ridiculous unpleasant game modes.

Conquest on Exile. Fortress on Crucible. Dominate on Brothers. really bad in general.

This is the second subject on this exact tactic, which is seemingly game breaking. The first was posted here:
