Demigod Crashes Randomly Ingame And Crashes Whole PC

Hey, so yea ill post pc spec:

radeon 3870HD
2gb ram
amd athlon 4800+ (2.4gig dual core)

I have no idea why this crashes my pc is goes to like a grey stripey screen with black dots and have to restart

No it dosent just crash the game it basically shuts down my pc

It has no reason too, i can run every other game fine and have never had this type of crash occur to me.

Any help would be much appreciated as it just crashed me at the end of a 2on2 we were just about to win xD.

Many thanks LinteX

I get the exact samet thing.  Game goes down, and leaves me with a blank screen.  No error messages, no nothing, just a dead computer, which I have to restart.

If you're getting corruption or artifacting along with a crash, you may want to see if your system's not overheating.

oops i mean ... what he said.

Demigod might be pushing a certain hardware on your rig much harder than other games you have played, so check for sufficient cooling.

demigod pushes hardware? i really doubt this. it's just full of bugs.

as the OT stated the game randomly crashes on various systems i could reproduce with friends (windows xp, windows vista 32, windows vista 64).

it really minimized game experience i don't know whether i can wait for "THE" patch to fix this issues...

either there's some miraculous link on why certain system constantly crash when playing demigod or stardock fucked it up...i suppose it's the latter since this game doesn't even scratch the limits of my system...

Regardless if it barley pushes your system many people don't have bad-ass systems. Either you know this and just trying to boast and/or your just that dumb and don't realize a-ton of gamers have low-end systems because they simply can't afford it.

I have a pretty BA system to and yeah demigod can push a system. It pushes my quad-core decently (take a look at task manager next time u got it up ... oh and yeah don't have demigod minimized ... a.k.a this means window mode so it can actually run). Not saying my quad-core is gonna die but it does use it .. usually 1 core alot then the other a lil here and there.

So regardless if you run it perfectly it doesn't mean your system isn't still working to make it run so beautifully. Ggs

can't follow you at all.

in the last 3 hours trying to play with a friend it crashed 6 times with a fatal error and we couldn't finish a SINGLE game properly.

sometimes i play hours without trouble - but that's so rare i can't really be happy about it...so i really doubt it's a heating/cooling problem (that i never experienced before btw)

i can state that this game is still full of bugs without the need to trust your judgement about my intelligence - simply because this game is full of bugs and they need to be fixed if stardock wants this game to become an online alternative to dota or any other challenging online game for that matter.

you can doubt my intelligence in that i still have no clue in what you are trying to tell us...

Mkay ill dumb it down for ya.

Your PC isn't the PC of all others online.

ALOT of gamers have CRAP pcs so demigod "pushes" their system.

YOU might not lag but doesn't mean Demigod isnt stressing your system.

I never said there wasn't bugs. Yes there is bugs. Sucks you crash 24/7 but i don't so it isn't everyone.

By chance. On your crashing do you happen to minimize the game alot?

Did i make it easier?

I'm not 100% sure what causes the crashes, but i'm also experiencing them and only in this singular game. I've run hardware diagnositics using Hot CPU checker and memtest 86+. My hardware IS fine. This is confirmed by the fact that only demigod crashes. E.g. Call of Duty: Worlds at War, Left 4 Dead, all run great without issue.

Now... what could be the issue? I suspect that video card drivers and 64-bit platforms are the core of the issues as this is the only delta I've found from systems that crash and ones that don't (my friends systems). I'm running an Nvidia ASUS 9800 GTX+, 8gB of ram, an Intel Quad Core 9650 3.0ghz all in a Shuttle SX48-P2 Deluxe case. I've tried Windows 7 and Windows Vista 64-bit, but crashes occur frequently in both operating systems. My friends are running Nvidia 265 or 285 cards without any crashes. This is all speculation unless people provide more information about their crashes.

Can i just say i have exactly the same issue, 64bit OS, Windows 7 RTM (Legit i may add - thank the lords of Technet).  All other games work perfectly but im lucky if i get through a round of Demigod before the screen goes grey, and a reboot is the only course of action.

Ati 4670

I just bought the game last week and am hovering over the request for a refund button.

I agree... i have same thing game with no real reason will crash screen freezes then black screen. as far as pushing hardwar not my issue belive it is an nvidia driver problem.

64bit OS, Windows 7 RTM ... the screen goes grey

See if there are any newer drivers available from ATI yet. Microsoft's RTM video drivers tend to be notoriously unreliable.

A black screen would tend to indicate a driver failure/reset; likewise update them if they're not the very latest. You might also try disabling SLI.

I have similar. 'fatal'  game-starting crashes (even though under error-report, I unchecked 'automatically restart).  I also have somewhat similar specs as the OP. I can play Demigod for up to about 45 minutes, but it will crash anywhere from 5 seconds to 45 mintues into the game, resulting in a restart of my computer.  Here's my specs

Win XP

AMD Athlong 64 X2 Dual

4 gig ram

Sapphire ATI Radeon 3850, 512 mb, agp slot

All my processor drivers (including AMD dual-core game optimizer), chipset, video drivers, sounds drivers, everything I can think of is up to date.  I try playing with my security software (Bitdefnder) off and on to no avail.  I have a brand new PSU (pC Power and cooling) that far exceeds the power limits.  I have more than enough cooling, with extra fans optimized to work together to carry the hot air 'up and out'.  Like someone else mentioned above, most other games work fine, such as Left for Dead, Dawn of War 2, and Lord of the Rings Online.  All three of those games I've had marathon 12+ hour in a row play sessions with no problems whatsoever, and the graphics settings turned up fairly high.  The only game that had anything remotely like this was Sins of a Solar Empire (which I understand are made by two different devs, just a common publisher in Stardock)... Sins I just gave up playing, I couldn't play for anymore than 5-10 minutes before the fatal crash/re-start bug.

I've gotten in touch with Stardock support and just sent them some DirectX Diag and startup files they requested.  Also, once, my pc didn't restart after the crash, and I was able to salvage a Microsoft error report, which I also forwarded to Stardock support.

My heart really goes out to those who aren't able to play this otherwise very cool game.  I'm starting up work and school soon, so I won't have much time to play.  However, I *would* like to figure out what's causing this, if possible, if for no other reason than I love building/fixing/troubleshooting pc's.  THe OP gave me a glimmer of hope, in a way, in that it may possibly be a similar bug in each of our machines, and hopefully in that commonality, a solution might emerge down the line.  And not at all blaming the devs or Stardock here -- would just like to get to the bottom of things so I can play Demigod for more than 45 minutes :D

I had crashes with this game consistently after about 10 mins play, where other games played fine. Different errors, including dump to desktop, EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION, DirectX errors, etc.

I tried everything from the latest NVidia drivers to updating the BIOS. It's only when other games started to crash that I suspected it was overheating. Turns out it was my CPU getting too hot and crashing the game.

Running Prime95 ( http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=103 ) under stress test confirmed it was the CPU.

Fixed it by reseating the CPU heatsink/fan with new thermal compound, and adding an additional case fan (may have to invest in a decent CPU fan).

Try monitoring your system temperatures while playing if you can. It may also help to set your fans to full speed in your BIOS if possible.

I have the problem it will crash and restart my pc.

I think I wasted money on this game.

Yeah, I get this on occasion. My PC excedes game recomended specs and has the latest drivers.

The crash comes in three different forms- A, the game appears to have a refresh rate problem, making the screen go flickery. Can be resolved momentairly by changing video settings anyway you like, higher or lower. Usually comes back in a minute or so, and sometimes crashes after a blue screen, comp reboots and resets desktop wallpaper. Message comes up saying computer has recovered from serious error. B- blue screen, no warning Comp reboots resets desktop wallpaper. Message comes up saying comp has recovered from serious error. C- Demigod crashes to desktop for no apparent reason, no error message or anything that would suggest an error, as the computer continues to function as normal.  Got three days of enjoyable use before this happened.

I play games far more demanding than Demigod on max settings, no problems.

Same issue here.
My guess would be it related to Graphics Drivers.
I have the latest Nvidia (190.62)
Yes, also all O/S patches and latest Direct X

I am running a Core i7 920 w/12 GB RAM.

Have replace all components, (video card, RAM, Hard Drives, Cables, Power Supply, etc. etc.)
and just completed rebuilt my PC installing nothing but OS, Drivers, and Demigod
...and it still crashes.

I've tried this on both Vista x64 and Windows 7 x64
Pretty much same results.

If I could return this game I would - very dissapointing and a waste of money.

Just some more details on the system hardware for reference:
Asus Rampage II Extreme
Intel Core i7 920
Corsair Dominator 12GB (was initially 6GB, bought another 6 to replace - of'course didn't help - so I left in all 12)
XFX GTX 260 Black Edition (Was SLI, took one out, put the other one in - no help)
Soundblaster X-fi Titanium Pro
WD 300GB Velociraptor (Was RAID, removed - no help, tried also WD Caviar Green - same issues, Also reinstalled O/S in IDE mode rather than AHCI & RAID - still did not help, also replaced all sata and power cables)
Ultra X3 1000w Power Supply

Some of the things I tried above may seem silly, was just covering all the bases.

man sometimes its hilarious how buggy this game is.

1) They release it way too soon and online capabilities go *kaputt*

2) They get a gay sound bug that requires you type /nosound something that you shouldn't have to do to get the game working

3) multiple favor wipes which ruin the game

4) Horrible pantheon that doesn't work

5) options like skirmish that are useless

6) way unbalanced premades and map/demigod combos that will destroy you

7) way too little items and abilities. I don't know about you but after the 100th time I used a build with a game that went exactly the same for 30 min and at the end getting a little thrill to up my pantheon statistics

8) Now this gay bug that shuts down your computer

I know that some of these bugs have been fixed in the mean time but still guys..... Stardock has to star firing some people cause this game sucks ass. DotA is a MoD for a REALLY old game that includes campaigns and a lot of other stuff. This is called a game guys. When someone sells me a mod for like $40 thats worse than a 5 year old games mod that would cost a shitload less in the meantime my spidy senses start tingling. Do yourself a favor and return this game untill Stardock decideds to include the game to fit the mod which wil include nice stuff like : A campign, unlockables, A online that *GASP* works. This is a nice idea. Now give people a game not some shity tissue paper roll that you glued glass to and sold as a telescope.

im betting most of these are related to XP x64 or nvidia cards....

Hey guys I checked out a gamespot review and guess what? The only good thing this game was merited for was sound affects. Great. *clap clap*. Guess what you were downgraded on. That it doesn't live up to its fame and media hype and also that it was a half finished game. Nice job guys.

Did you actually look at the review?

The Good

  • Deceptively deep, addictive fun
  • Different demigods have interesting, unique abilities
  • Great music and sound effects.

    The Bad

    • Major online connectivity problems
    • No tutorial or story-based campaign
    • Only eight arenas.
Nowhere in the review does it mention hype.....
EDIT: Damn quote tags.

The pirates released it too soon and caused that.

It's not their fault your computer is too weak to process sounds.

There's only been one and that was to help people who had negative favor points.

I'm sorry that you played against a team that was better than you. The next patch should fix that.

My last post was about 5 posts up...
I decided to give it a try on XP x86 - so I went ahead and popped in a new drive and installed XP x86 to test it there.

Once again, just installed the O/S, all available patches/updates, Direct-X, and drivers.
Same version of Nvidia drivers as before (190.62) except this time it was the XP x86 flavor...

Here is the stop message this time:
STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER

And here is the MS KB article it pointed me to:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=293078

I purchased this game (download from Stardock/Impulse) within the first couple of weeks that it was released and paid full price for it, not the $20 they are selling it for now... and since then, I have spent twice as many hours troubleshooting than playing. What upsets me more than that is I bought this game because I've always like the Total Annihilation Series, and then bought Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance.  While waiting for Supreme Commander 2, I decided to buy this game to hold me over... From what I've seen/read Supreme Commander 2 is using the Demigod engine - so, I fear that I'll have the same issues there.  This seems like a common theme from GPG - they support the game for a few months after it's released - and then you can forget about getting any more patches.  Look at the forums for Supreme Commander / Forged Alliance and you'll see the same common threads about sound and video glitches...  It's just not worth it for them to support it anymore.  I bet if I revert back to some driver set from when this game was released - everything will work as it should - because I assume that's what it was tested on -  but where is this info from the developer?  Am I expected to roll back drivers one version at a time until I find a working combination?
