Somebody Enlighten Me?

"Pubbing"

Pubbing. I am starting to see this word used all the time. Other than the RL usage, I am not really familiar with the term. Urbandictionary says that it is the act of playing on 'pub'lic servers.

I'm assuming that it's mostly a FPS term then? Games that use a client-server connection scheme, right?

I don't see how it applies to Demigod.

 

I get the feeling that the word has kind of evolved to mean... "playing without a set team or clan." Is this true?

It bothers the heck out of me because I haven't gotten used to seeing it written. My brain immediately replaces it with the more familiar (to me) "pugging." Or... Playing with a Pick-Up Group.

 

My head asplode.

Somebody call me a noob and correct me please.

 

People talk about how they've been out pubbing and it just makes me think that they are not only from the United Kingdom, but also drunkards.

in warcaft 3/dota the common name for a custom game, which anyone could join is "pub" and yes it is short for a publically hosted game.

I've played a ton of War3 in my day, but I guess I spent most of my time in the ladder and not in customs. I guess games and communites change a lot over a period of years too.

I can see it being used to differentiate between password protected games and public games. That makes sense.

PUGging and Pubbing are basically interchangeable as they mean basically the same thing - playing with people you don't know.

With the novelty of the 50% coupons a lot of fresh blood has been introduced to the community. They are the people who buy priests early, relentlessly engage 3 demigods all by themselves, die as many times as possible for all of the opposing team to get an all father's ring, then quit... and you are actually relieved because the ai is better.

 

To be honest, I am sick of pubbing, and I wish I had a preset team of people I knew but the only way to somehow find friends in this game at this point is pubbing.
