As others have pointed out, the multiplayer population of Demigod consistently gone up since release.
In addition, while connectivity is not perfect, it does work for the vast majority of people now and more updates are in development.
One of the big differences between Demigod and "other games" that are p2p (i.e. other RTSs) is that in other games, people aren't allowed in the lobby until they've connected to everyone in the lobby and you can't see people who are trying to join.
I challenge any serious RTS player here to deny they've not routinely playing an RTS online where they've sat in a lobby with a couple of people wondering why more people aren't joining where they leave the game, find another game that quickily fills up.
The difference: In Demigod, people are allowed to join in the lobby if they connect to the host and then the host can decide who to boot. Obviously we could make it work like other games where people simply can't get into the lobby and eliminate the connection progress dialog so you can't see people joining.
