Unexpected and confusing performance issue

Hey everyone,

I just bought Demigod yesterday only to install it and realize that I'm having the play the game on all medium settings. Now, to some this may not sound like an issue, however the problem lies in the fact that my rig looks a little something like this:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450

512 MB GeForce 9800 GTX+

3 GB RAM

.... If I can typically run high end games, for the sake of argument, let's say Crysis, at a constant 60 FPS on high settings, it would only seem logical to assume that Demigod would, without a question, run on high settings without a problem... Can anyone shed some light on this matter? I have updated my drivers, thinking that may be the cause but I achieved the same results. Thanks for your time.

Since you haven't mentioned it, are you using on board sound? Some users have had issues with the sound engine bogging the CPU down on certain chipsets. Try setting sound to low quality and disabling reverb. You may also try setting it to stereo in the windows sound options.

The first time I started the game I had the same feeling, amazing loads and powerpoint screens, even with my gtx275. I discovered the demigod.exe process in taskmanager was set to 1 cpu while I have 2. Rightclick process and set affinity to 2 cpu's.

Im sorry ive seen better PC's than yours that can't run crysis at full high at constant 60 FPS. You def are lying because your system isn't that great. Now unless your talking about playing crysis on high at ... 1024x768 or some small monitor sure. If you mean TRUE high def and high settings. Lies.

Now are your drivers are you on? Sometimes the most "up-to-date" isn't the best thing. So which are you on and i can help ya

Uh, I was running them on high at 1680 x 1050.... However, I wasn't running them on Very High since I'm not using DX10/Vista. But I'm not here at the Demigod forums to debate if my computer can run Crysis. I was just using it as an example of the fact that I've never run into a game that can't play up to my standards.

With that said, I updated my 9800 with the GeForce/ION Driver Release 185. Is there a better 'update' I should be using instead of the aforementioned?

Also, I tried using low quality audio and haven't seen a difference in performance. I'm gonna try what Emiel suggested and see what happens while seeing if my arugmentative friend Makerz can help me out ;]

*UPDATE* My affinity is set to CPU 0, 1, 2, 3... Which means absolutely nothing to me since I'm not ENTIRELY computer savvy.

Oh i know. And i was just stating it wasn't full on high-def and prob not the highest . (im a detail freak lol).

I shall browse around and see whats the best driver. Ive had to "downgrade" drivers befor with Nvidia because sometimes they just fail hardcore at making them. brb in a lilz

*Edit* Na affinity just means like what you allow that particular program to use. Such as if you unchecked the "3" one .. then it would only use 3 cores of the quad core (and not the one you checked). (You have 4 cores. It just starts counting at 0 then 1,2,3). .

Yeah that's what I kinda figured, I figured unchecking those boxes would be unwise, hehe.

As for my OS, I'm using XP. Thanks for scouring the drivers to see if there's a better one, much appreciated good sir.

Hm the only thing i found that was useful is the drivers they made for your card right befor the latest ones (the one you have).

I am not sure if it will help but it doesn't hurt to try .

Just uninstall ur current display driver after DLing this ...

And install that and try it. If there is no improvement or you don't like those just simply uninstall those and DL the latest again. I hope it will help though

Also btw do you have these lag issues online as well as off?

If you are having them while offline (playing with bots) then yeah it might be a driver or some issue we can hopefully narrow down ....

If it happens online it might be someone in the match causing your game to stutter so it looks like your lagging when really your not. Beacsue in p2p if 1 person lags ... it can cause everyone else to lag (which sucks) .

I haven't even touched the online yet, so yeah, thus far I'm only getting this shoddy framerate offline.

Also this is going to sound like the most noobler question around, but I wanna make sure I don't screw anything up (I'm paranoid about doing something to my rig and it never returning to it's once glorious state) but: is there a proper way to uninstall and reinstall drivers? Or is it just as simple as it sounds like it should be?

Yeah just DL the drivers i posted up there and then go to your control panel.

From Control Panel go to your "Add/Remove Programs." And you should see something called "Nvidia Display Drivers" and what-not. Just delete those and then reboot. After reboot it will look like crap (no vid drivers) but then you can install the others. Install those and reboot.

Then try the game. If its the same / you don't like those drivers. Just do the same thing again except this time go re-DL those latest drivers you had and you should be good to go.

And its understanable. Its much better to be safe than sorry you know? .
