Game Crashes When Changing Vid Settings

Everytime I try to change any of the graphics settings for the game, the game will crash to the desktop. This includes things like just changing the resolution. I can run the game, I have a Intel Q9400 and a ATI 3870HD, 4 gigs of ram. I can play the game on the standard settings, but it would be a shame to let all that equipment go to waste. Thanks.
