Economic annoyance

Well I've been playing galciv for just over 2 weeks straight.. and lacking in serious sleep.
Yesterday I was doing another game, on a medium sized map.
Everything was going pretty well, after a while me and the torians had the russia/Usa thing going, I had 1/2 of the galaxy, and they had half.
So I allied with them, to make it easy on myself.
Also, i was playing with mecantile skills, placing emphasis on trade, so that's where i got 90% of my income from, 85% of which was from the torians.. so its safe to say we were partners in trade, and pretty much had our financial wellbeing linked.

Ok, then it happened, there was an event which kinda stated 'To cut down on evil civilizations trade income etc etc, we propose that evil races be limited in their trade routes. how many should an evil race have?' a. 4 b.3 c.1 etc.

This is wasnt too good for me, since I tilted on the dark side, which i didnt really care about since the torians would never vote against me since their income is reliant upon my ability to trade. right?
Wrong.

They cast against me and limited me to just 1 trade route :-/

Maybe i'm overseeing something here, but I fail to see the logic in that, A. we were allies. B. 85% of their trade income comes from me.

That's like the USA saying to china, we don't want your computer chips, cause your gov. is evil. 'oh, dear.. who's gonna produce our computer chips now?'

And no this is not a complaint, its just an observation, I love galciv :D

Morality trumped the dollar. Happens in the real world too (sometimes). :)

Yea, I've noted that UP votes can not be logical. But in the real world allies do vote against each other, and side with immoral Governments. On the other hand, it would be more realistic if money talks in Galciv. I suspect that no civ (of whatever morality) would cut its own throat like that.
In one of my games a UP vote concerning whether the top civ the Drengins should pay 5% of their income to all the other civs, every other civ voted against it! I mean really. :notsure:

Heh. UP votes can be a bit odd at times.

The one bit I'm not terribly fond of is if I run into an opposite-aligned race with more influence early on, and he's the only contact for a while. That can be painful in the long term if any of the permanent rules come up.
