Dont forget to add such options as talk to everyone ( even enemy ) and ability to mute players.
( I get mad if some 13 years old one start screaming around ... have enough of that from my kids )

I concur.

I wish more games used something built in, then maybe I could get rid of Xfire, Skype, TS and whatever else. Or some at least.

We're already planning to add high-voice-quality VOIP to Impulse Reactor (though it may be a while).

Was scheduled for late summer.  Fingers crossed that we see it by Sept 1, it will really add a lot to the game.

Sounds good - in this case we would still need team players to all be able to hear each other regardless of whether they know each other on impulse. For me I would like to see voip integration for the team players - showing which person is talking and the ability to mute easily any player.

I guess for it to work ingame there would have to be some sort of GPG involvement?

Sounds good anyway.

mumble's unstable.. we used it for few months because it had lower latency but in every 30min game at least 1 of us crashed from mumble or his sound went too quiet or too loud.

Should be easy to use.

Such as (im chosing binding randomly):  Push to talk, hold T to talk to team, hold G to talk global.

When you hit tab, and bring up that ingame menu, have a mute button next to people names.

Fix the GUI to have ally pics with hp/mp bar (no specific numbers, just a basic bar).  Highlight the picture, and add a speaker on it when that person is talking.  For global, just put their name up top, glowing with a little speaker.

Personaly I think a chat system like BF2142has would be great.  It has a great built in voip, and the commo rose chat is grea too (hold a button and default chat message show up on screen.  Click the one you want).
