Anybody who can connect to others easily please chime in.

Well I'm at my whits end here. So I'm thinking about purchasing a new modem to see if that makes connecting easier. Can anybobdy who doesn't have major issues connecting to most players tell me what modem they use? I'm thinking about a lynksys or netgear dsl modem. Currently I have a zyxel that was provided by my isp. My only guess is my zyxel is doing something funny, making connecting hard.

Also even though I have a 0.32Mb/s upload, and it doesn't seem to be enough for 4v4 at all. How much do you fucking need O_o?!

I've portforwarded, done the firewall ditty etc.

Though I am curious, for the sites such as caneyouseeme.org etc, must demigod be running in order for the port to be read as open?

Yes you need application on other side to listen to the port.

So testing ports without anything running on your client wont show you as open port.

As for your speed it should be OK assuming you dont download your p0rn while you play :)
( make sure your torrent client is off while you play )

And if you still have problems check your anitvirus some of the things demigod does are not liked by some antivirus apps.
I put Demigod in exception list on my antivirus app.

p.s. Always check your connection info .. if you see that most people reached you trough proxy or nat then something is stil wrong on your side.

Thats the thing, nearly 8 out of 10 people need to proxy or nat to me. I've gone so far as to disable all of windows firewall. (I have no antivirus software running either). I'm willing to do whatever to fix it, but I have no more ideas.

You probably have a symmetric nat router, if you look in your impulsereator.log file in Documents\My Games\Gas Powered Games\Demigod you will probably see something like this nearish the start:

Connected to facilitator at 74.204.71.150:6004.  My External: 123.456.789.123:56789  My Internal: 192.168.1.2:6002

where the external port number is not in the 6000-6200 range and is different than the internal port number. My old speedtouch router was of this type and did this and had lots of problems as you have.

Connected an older netgear router (DG834Gv3) i've had around and found that a lot better connecting as my external port matches my internal one, and demigod works a lot better.

I believe this is due to the way demigod connects, so someone connecting to you would get as follows in their impulsereactor.log:

[05-31-2009 21:26:06 840] Pinging player at player_name (36701) at 192.168.1.2:6002 (CONNECTION ACTIVITY)
[05-31-2009 21:26:06 841] Pinging player at player_name (36701) at 123.456.789.123:56789 (CONNECTION ACTIVITY)

So it tries to connect to the players internal IP first, i believe this is so that multiple people on a LAN can play together. Of course their internal IP is meaningless for anyone outside their lan, so that will just fail.

It then tries to connect to their external ip + external port, now depending on your router, it may not allow traffic through on this port, as it is a dynamic port, so it either has timed out allowing incoming connections in, or it only allows incoming connections in from a specific ip - most probably stardocks facilitator server.

Now if demigod did this :

[05-31-2009 21:26:06 840] Pinging player at player_name (36701) at 192.168.1.2:6002 (CONNECTION ACTIVITY)
[05-31-2009 21:26:06 841] Pinging player at player_name (36701) at 123.456.789.123:56789 (CONNECTION ACTIVITY)
[05-31-2009 21:26:06 841] Pinging player at player_name (36701) at 123.456.789.123:6002 (CONNECTION ACTIVITY)

Before falling back to NAT and then proxying, i believe a lot of people including yourself would have less problems as long as you opened your ports. As currently even if you open your ports, and your router generates a random dynamic port, demigod does not take advantage of this.

The 11224...thats whats doing it isnt it? If I buy a new modem, would that fix it? Also are most modems (like linksys or netgear) compatable with most isps, if not is there a way to find out?

Do the http://www.speedtest.net/ and post your results here.

Also open you ports range from 6100 to 6200 (UDP).

As far as I saw game requires 256K upload speed for 5vs5.

Showoff, lol.

also, no problems here.  using d-link dgl4300 router and crappo SA modem

I don't think 256k upload speed would work for 5s lol.

And yeah Keno thats not his real connection. Thats his connection at work or something ... no home connection is that fast :).

<-- avg. good home connection. Some have better though (if they have fiber or something). But honestly ALOT of people on this forum pull really REALLY crappy speeds (like speeds slower than ISDN years ago...)

I have everything port forwarded. I tried the proxy but its always 1 person and still it's the same people on the proxy as it is without it.

I use a linksys router and have dsl for internet. Vista is my current OS.

Same problem. My external has some weird number too, and is differnet from the internal. Guess we're screwed?

See the thing that bugs me, is how do I know if a modem will have this "symmetric" nat before I buy it. Googling didn't help too much, and it doesnt seem to be in the product info.

I suggest waiting for 1.01 to come out first. Picking a modem would be tricky.

If only the modems come with 'Demigod capable' or 'Certified for Demigod' stickers, just like Windows Vista/7. Would be SO epic!
